Where did this narrative that TJ is injury prone come from last year was the first year he had a serious injury and Garrett has missed more games than TJ has in his career
I will say the one other guy that Ive ever seen be able to make something of a habit out of batted down balls and picks at the LoS is early-career/raiders-era Khalil Mack. The level of dominance at the line of scrimmage that guy showed game in game out for his first few years, combined with insane reflexes and awareness had him with the ball in his hands or even in the endzone as much as his team's offense alot of the time
You can break the question up into 2 parts: Who is better at rushing the passer and whole is better overall. Strictly at pass rush/ pressure stuff they are pretty close and I get why people would say they think Garrett is better at that 1 thing, but when you look at the whole picture, I think Watt just brings an added dimension to the table with his versatility, batted passes, and everything which was mentioned. Also I think it is seemingly clear Watt is more important to the Steelers D than Garrett is to the Browns D with what we saw last year.
U nailed it. Garret as a pass rusher is unreal. But there’s something’s there too. He disappears in games, injury’s, sometimes he seems a lil soft or something idk what it is, but give me TJ all day
Garret is a hand in the dirt d-lineman. You could play the man at 3 tech if you wanted. Can you do that with TJ Watt? No you can’t. It’s because they’re different players not that one is better
A key factor that wasn't considered here is the effect of the other players on the D Line. Wyatt plays with a much strong supporting cast, including a pro-bowl d-tackle, while Garrett has been playing with mediocre to poor tackles. PFF indicates that Garrett gets double teamed more than any D lineman in football, sometimes even triple teamed. If Garrett had a stronger supporting cast the stats might be a lot different.
Garrett now has that stronger supporting case you spoke of and he has one sack in two games. I realize there's lots more football left to play but this is definitely the best Browns defense he's played on so there should be no more excuses. Something not considered here is that Myles generally plays on the right side going up against many of the best offensive linemen in the league as well as regularly being double teamed. In general the best pass blocking tackles are on the QBs blind side. Watt generally plays on the left side and seldom matches up against the elite pass blocking tackles that Garrett faces.
My thought is that this completely disregards scheme, role, supporting cast, and double/triple teams. Even that first TJ sack was a cleanup sack that should be credited to 97, which is what you see in the PFF pass rush grade. These are two extremely good players who do not and should not play the same role. TJ would fall off a cliff if he was asked to regularly beat double teams on the pass rush with hand in the ground. Myles should never be asked to drop back into coverage.
What I’ve noticed is that Garrett is more gifted but doesn’t have the motor that Watt does. They also play different positions so it’s not a fair comparison looking at stats. Also, Myles is double teamed way more than Watt.
Tj is a 5 time pro bowler and a 3 time all pro he's had a lot more than 2 good seasons lol, and he's only had one serious injury in his career Garrett has missed more games than TJ in their career so Miles must be injury prone too

To all the people saying it’s clearly TJ Watt let me ask you this who does Myles have helping him on the defensive line? Who’s the most double teamed player in the nfl by far(aka who do NFL teams respect more) and who still puts up crazy stats and numbers? The hint he wears 95
has it occured to you that myles garret is double teamed more often because the rest of the browns d line sucks colossal ass? you said it yourself, tj has better teammates on his d line, so if they double team him every play, they'll get steamrolled.
Depends on what you want. Watt is better in the 3-4 and Garrett is better in the 4-3. Watt has had a stacked line for a lot of his career and Garrett has had to absolutely carry the Browns line for a minute
@@danteandkyler7954 Most of the games they lost without TJ was because the offense could not get going not because of the defense so your point is pretty irrelevant to whether the defensive line is good
@Myles Poun The defense was drastically worse when TJ was out of the lineup it went from a great/really good defense to a bad defense, and the defensive line couldn't get any pressure at all on the quarterback when Watt was out
Here’s my thing why in the hell you would you take the 1 and 2 best pass rushers and drop them in coverage?? Plus Myles is the most double teamed DE in the nfl. That has to count for something
You drop them in coverage once in a while for a few reasons. Biggest one is to confuse the QB and take away one of their check down routes. And id look into that double team stat. The way TJ gets around the outside of the tackle its hard for a guard to get over and help on the outsise before he gets to the QB. So some of those plays im sure they attempt to doubke team but the guard cant pull to the outside fast enough without leaving a gaping hole in his gap.

Watt is a DOG doe and I would just like 2 see him play in a 4-3 defense were he rushes the QB on every down that TAKES WAY MORE ENERGY THAN BEING N A 3-4 WERE WATT GETS A REST WEN HE'S DROPPING N COVERAGE JUST STANDING AROUND....... IF YOU LINE BOTH GUYS UP AT DE 100% OF THE GAME GARRETT IS FAR MORE DISRUPTIVE AND CAN WRECK A GAME PLAN..... The Steelers have more of a Complete defense so Watt has ALOT OF HELP 4RM MINKAH,THEIR CORNERS,GOOD LINEBACKERS AND GOOD EDGE RUSHER OPPOSITE OF WATT SO WATT DOESN'T HAVE 2 B DOMINANT GAME EVERY GAME BUT MYLES IS THE ONLY ELITE LINEMAN IF HE DONT GET HOME THEN THERE'S REALLY NO PASS RUSH N MYLES JUST HAVE DENZEL WARD AS 1 LOCKDOWN CORNER BUT THATS IT..........
Watt very very rarely is dripping into coverage for one. The Steelers have a record of 59-26-2 when tj watt plays and 1-10 when he doesn’t. Name any non qb in the nfl who makes that impact. Duke Manywether, Brandon Thorn, Brian Baldinger and Geoff Schwartz are some of the most well respected voices when it comes to NFL trench play in the NFL. Manywether has/does some of the best offensive lineman in the league. Not a single one of them respect PFFs grading on O-line/D-line. In fact I’ve heard Thorn and Manywether call their grading system on those positions laughable.
I think pressures count a lot. They turn into TO and makes a QB uncomfortable
What I’ve noticed is that Garrett is more gifted but doesn’t have the motor that Watt does. They also play different positions so it’s not a fair comparison looking at stats. Also, Myles is double teamed way more than Watt.
I will Take TJ.
This is like saying who's better my center or my tackle.... THEY PLAY DIFFERENT POSITIONS
It’s easily Myles, T.J. Can’t even stay on the field he’s always injured and only had 2 good seasons myles Garrett has been a beast for years
Tj is a 5 time pro bowler and a 3 time all pro he's had a lot more than 2 good seasons lol, and he's only had one serious injury in his career Garrett has missed more games than TJ in their career so Miles must be injury prone too
Last night they went head to head and you saw the result. The nation saw the result. Garrett isn't on TJs level. It's undeniable.
Why is this even a question tj watt hands down
Garrett. I weight prsh much heavier than rund. I do this because the player doesn't control the scheme or how many snaps they play. That factor plays heavier into rund.
After this last MNF game, are there any more questions about who's better? Did Myles even play?
Ofc tj watt
Myles is a great player but watt impact on d is so insane he almost effects stuff on level only seen bye qbs or RBs
They’re both great the only reason why people are trying to separate these two is who better who’s good it’s just by race that’s all it is. They’re both graded great in my great I couldn’t go wrong with either or but we all know Bosa is the best😂😂😂
Are the pff grades from last year, or averaged for their careers?
Garret is not even in the same league, doesn't really impact games - mostly garbage time stats
lol
apples and oranges
You Cleveland guys crack me up. And where is garret"'s strip fumbles and where is his 331/2 sacks??? NO EVEN CLOSE!
It looks like Bosa and Parsons had better numbers but not the longevity
What about career stats? Don’t those matter?
Garrett is better imo
A more interesting question is whose the better value at their draft position? In that case its TJ Watt, no question
TJ watt all day long twice on Sunday
Watt doesn't get double teamed nearly the same as Garrett does. Garrett gets tripled more than Watt gets doubled. No lie
they're both amazing players, stop throwing a hissy fit and relax.
@@cantobot1234 a hissy fit? What are you like a 80 year old grandma
@@jcbuckeye 95 year old.
You said who is the better pass rusher and the 1st 2 plays of TJ he isn't even rushing the passer. Maybe you should of ask a different question.
Should be taken into account pff hates the Steelers and tj watt
Myles shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence as TJ.
Depends on what you want. Watt is better in the 3-4 and Garrett is better in the 4-3. Watt has had a stacked line for a lot of his career and Garrett has had to absolutely carry the Browns line for a minute
I think Garrett can play in both idk if watt can
Look at the Steelers record without tj watt so that stacked line is a bs argument
@@danteandkyler7954 he has cam Hayward PERIOD.
@@danteandkyler7954 Most of the games they lost without TJ was because the offense could not get going not because of the defense so your point is pretty irrelevant to whether the defensive line is good
@Myles Poun The defense was drastically worse when TJ was out of the lineup it went from a great/really good defense to a bad defense, and the defensive line couldn't get any pressure at all on the quarterback when Watt was out
Garrett is better and it's not even close.
I'd say TJ Watt is better at playing outside linebacker and Myles Garrett is better at playing defensive end 😂
💯
Garrett is the better player, Watt the better pass defender
You're high. After last nights performance, it's undeniable who's better and it's not even close. Garrett is good, but he's no where near the player that TJ is. Not. Even. Close.
I see what you did there you we're being nice because garrett a future hofer but watt a better pass rusher career wise he tied strathan
Garrett is much more talented but Watt is a bit more skilled and a better overall player
Technique beats talent everyday
@@danteandkyler7954 in the NFL, absolutely right
They both have similar combine numbers, but Garrett is stronger.
@@bg147 yeah Garrett is just a bit faster but it's much more impressive for his size and weight and he is certainly much stronger than Watt.
@@derickvera573 He is a Julius Peppers type freak.
ITS ALL ABOUT LOGIC N CONTEXT WITH THIS 1
Garrett is the BETTER DEFENSIVE END he plays Purely DE while Watt plays DE but ALOT of outside linebacker.....PLUS Watt play in a 3-4 he get more help 4rm his linebackers wen rushing an Watt has HELP ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE he has had some Very Good Running mates but Myles is the ONLY ELITE DE on his team so he see more double teams n still puts up the same or even better #s than Watt...
I’ve watched tj watt single-handedly win multiple football games by himself. Tj also tied the sack record and has won dpoy. Myles is a phenomenal player but I give TJ the best edge in the nfl for now.
T.J can’t stay on the field consistently. Meanwhile Myles played last season injured and still balled out.
Go ask Micah parson who is better! I think I'll take his professional opinion over anyone on this comment section lol Garrett is by far the better player
Tj is jordan garret is clyde
TJ ain5 got no rings so get his hot dog out your throat😂
stats support that Myles is a better edge rusher, but TJ is definitely more versatile
I can agree with this
TJ also uses more ROIDS!!!!
if he did roids, they would've known, do you think they don't drug test players? he's just that good.
Add in Nick Bosa
Garrett also rushes the blindside while TJ lines up against the strong side
Tj lines up a lot of different places. He started lining up inside when the run stop was awful
@@aiden3507 true. He does drop into coverage more than people think. Almost as much as Micah 1st year
Mg is better easily
Garrett... but Watt is right there
AD still better than both.
Maxx Crosby if you actually count holding……. But it’s the raiders🤷🏽🏴☠️
Garret easy
I can watch any other Jackson Krueger vid - but I know hes gonna say Garrett, so I’m just gonna vote that TJ Watt is 100x better than Garrett, and now I’m gonna leave
Well you were wrong 😂
Myles Garrett dude gets doubled damn near every game while still going off as well as being more durable than watt. Conversation over!
Nah, watt gets double teamed 2% less, stop it
@@TheGen3rallast season about 15%of tj watts snaps were double teams myles garrett about 28% of snaps were double teamed lol 2%my ass
So when PFF says the best player on the field for a single game was an edge defender who only had 1 tackle and 1 QB hit, I find that a joke. Especially when PFF uses the argument that Garrett just wasn’t as lucky as Watt.
Watt's stats and awards answer this question. Garrett is a great player, but T.J is better. I even think that T.J could match J.J in the future...
Micah🤷🏿♂️Don't @me or im blocking your dvmbazz😂
Myles is too much of a thug, can't depend on him to not get you a flag at a critical moment.
