Adding a bore welder to my home made line borer

  • In this video I set up my new to me Castolin Eutectic ID weld 25 bore welder to check it’s going to work correctly before I make it fit onto my line boring bearing mounts.
After a successful test, I cnc plasma cut out a 15mm plate that the bore welder will be mounted on. The plate is put in the lathe to machine a shoulder that will locate it accurately onto the line boring plate. The new DRO on the fresh milling machine is put to good use by centre drilling where the 9 bolt holes need to be drilled and the remaining material that couldn’t be reached in the lathe is milled away using a face mill.
Before removing the plate from the mill, I measure the centres between the torch and upright on the bore welder, the dro is then used again to centre drill where the upright hole needs to be.
The 9 holes are drilled through using the pillar drill.
The upright hole is drilled to 24mm and the boring head is used to counter bore the hole out to 37mm allowing the upright bar to sit nicely in the hole.
    Hope you enjoyed the video
    Thanks for watching!

Strange to see a moldboard plow in action. I haven't ever seen one in serious use here outside of a demo at a tractor show. When they were used it was in the spring. Now 90% of my area is no-till.

Fitting a DRO to older machines really makes it so much easier to know where the tool is. Topper Machine LLC in Wisconsin USA has fitted DROs to several of his old machines. He keeps buying old machines for his workshop because of how reliable they are. Another very interesting channel. He also has a shop built sawmill (a big one) and he keeps bees as well and also does railroad work occasionally.

Great videos mate. Lovely to hear a proper British accent from up Narth. I use furniture wax on any bare surfaces in my shop. I’ve got exactly the same problem. Obviously you can’t use it everywhere, but it helps. The other trick is to throw an oily rag on it when it’s not in use. Keep up the great work mate.

Great job 👍, keeping the Magnetic base as an option was a good move. Just need a job for the line borer / welder now. *Matty's Workshop* is an Aussie and recently was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Kurtis at CEE started a go-fund page to help him and his family bear the costs. Unfortunately Australia's healthcare still requires patient payments for some treatments. He is a great guy and he is mostly old school. Thanks for the post, really appreciated, it is Snowball Sunday, best day of the week 👍 Take care, be well.

Hi, if you place the mag base on a sheet of cardboard it lowers the friction between the base and the table whilst positioning. By moving the cardboard you gain a mechanical advantage as you are moving the magbase at the work surface level. Sorry, hung over and failing to describe things well:)

To keep enough shielding gas inside the hole maybe you can place a simple collar on top of the hole, for tight jobs maybe you can made a hinged split collar with a spring that keeps it closed so you can easily place it once the welder has raised a bit. Coogle for pictures of a "squeeze tri-clamp" to better understand what I mean, just ignore the locking feature.

An endless belt still has a vulcanised joint, it’s just vulcanised in house. An endless belt is used when there’s no room for a belt be vulcanised on the machine, or you don’t have the adjustment to pull it tight. Sometimes they can be a real pain to fit
