Its now hard to read a PD James novel without hearing Roy Marsden's beautifull diction. A robust cast working with superb direction enables many of the nuances in her complex plots to be well presented. Television for the thinking viewer who appreciates a story that demands involvement from the viewer. I love 'em !
I am an admirer of P D James's novels, and this was a wonderful adaption 😊 Roy Marsden is the perfect Dalgleish, and all the cast were excellent. This was the first novel I read, and my favourite, have watched it at least 4 times over the years, and I always enjoy it. Thank you 😊
Well Line of Duty is an example of TV today that's great too, but yes, I remember watching this during its original broadcast in 1991, still great today.
Thank you so much for sharing a great series. Much appreciated! Believe it or not, I watched it a couple years ago and forgot who did it, so that's why I watched the whole thing again...lol It was worth it!!!! Blessings to you, L :)
Watch the two with Martin Shaw, watch the new series with Bertie Carvel to compare them, listen to teh BBC audio dramas, and read all the books (one has not been filmed -- The Private Patient).
As I said five years ago... I watched it again with great pleasure. Wonderful actors and a storyline which keeps the viewer at the edge of the chair. If I'm lucky, I'll watch it again.. when another five years have passed.
Fitting that at 27:40, having concluded a conversation about conscience and consequences, the Anglican priest resumes reading his Inspector Ghosh mystery...
knew about PD James' work when I borrowed one of her books in British Council Jakarta's library way back in the late 90s. I got hooked ever since. puzzled me to know that her work didn't get translated to as many languages as Agatha Christie's. Personally I think James's characters and the motives they have to commit the crime are more believable and relatable. thank you for the video. it's my first time seeing it. Always pictured the more internationally famous Liam Neeson playing Dalgliesh but this guy is also really good. Thank you..👍👍
justjuice..... As much as I love all Liam Neeson's movies, I feel he would not have been the right fit for Adam Dalgliesh's character. However, as I was commenting to Stargazer in the last episode, I did think of one other actor who could have pulled this off beautifully, but failed to mention it to her in my comment, would have been Michael Kitchen. The two men are so similar in their acting, mannerisms, speaking, even their grins. Oh, we do love those sweet mysterious grins! Though I do love Michael's grin just a bit more. He's a remarkable actor in a love story. Those eyes and grin just make him irresistible to ladies. There's not much I haven't seen of his work. Liam is great but, the calm, cool inner confidence and peace aren't there that was needed here. Plus Liam's grin isn't quite as intoxicating, but more devilish...lol But he's still very yummy!!! I wish Liam would do more movies before its too late. I really do enjoy seeing him on the even. Love his voice too. Best wishes to you. L :)
And, ... that is how ‘upright’ members of society can blithely leave misery in the wake of their accomplishments: ‘Do what you think is right, and leave the consequences to ‘God’ to clean up [or not].’
Thank you for posting the Dalgleish series. This story was not as interesting as others, but still great drama. I always watch British shows using subtitles so I won't miss anything, but the subtitles on the Dalgleish episodes are atrocious. I don't know if they're computer generated or what, but they are terrible, make no sense and are sometimes provocative with the use of the English language.
He was pretty involved for someone on holiday. He found the shoes, he scoped out Caroline, he found Hilary's body, he gave just about everyone on Norwich a lift so got to know a lot of them, he saw Toby's suicide, he met Neville's mother -- though he failed here to suspect Neville -- and he was around for almost every aspect of the investigation.
I know this is quite old (and Thanks for posting!) but why oh _WHY_ do power Companies and the other Utilities still create a 'back-door' weakness and remain hooked up to the Net? I've always thought that was crazy.
Oh that’s an easy one: physicists and engineers are a fatal combination of arrogance. Hubris. Always the smartest people in the room - no one would dare, none could... but all it takes is a simple obsession with algorithms, a focused autism.
Big organisations prefer not to confront their weaknesses, here though I assumed thar Caroline introduced it on the blue computer disc she had in her hand in episode 5 when she got a call from crazy-housekeeper woman at work. Presumably that's why she needed to work inside Larksoken. I think the internet sort of existed then but hardly anyone had heard of it.
Inherent weaknesses in the Microsoft OPerating System. And all sub systems need to be hooked into diagnostics back somewhere, thus the need for firewalls and individual safe practices.
Can't help but think Toy Haygarth was probably a man with a temper -- he lets it go in so many of his roles, and, even here, where he was supposed to be quite a gentle man, especially with his wife, he lets her have the sharp edge of his tongue once -- when she is leaving -- and that's the Tony Haygarth I have seen so often.
And is freezing their butts off after Nordstream 2 went bust and now buys nuclear power electricity from France. That post didn't age well. If CO2 is the main concern, nuclear power is safe and clean.
@@hands-to-work1601 "Went bust" is an interesting way of describing a deliberate act of industrial sabotage. And no, it wasn't the Russians who did it.
"We must do what is right....We must leave the consequences to God". Well, of course a priest would say that. Typical clerical claptrap. If "your conscience is God", then you are responsible for everything you do: you are, in fact God, which is admitting that there is no such thing as "God".

Wonderful, intelligent, riveting viewing. To see her books come to life is a pleasure. I thank you.
brilliant ,,, properly long 6 hour's worth of intelligent and exiting drama .not the same old new crap we get on tv today.
exiting.......just the word I've been searching for....when you keep watching but you really want to leave, looking for the exit.
Well, i would not say exciting exactly but, it did keep my interest! I also enjoy Dalgliesh so, I will take 6 hours..... without any second thoughts!
Well Line of Duty is an example of TV today that's great too, but yes, I remember watching this during its original broadcast in 1991, still great today.
Thank you - these older films are a pleasure.
Watched it for the second time now, and I'm sure to watch it again, come time. It's well worth it ! Thank you very much for the upload.
An excellent series. I wish I had a Dalglish in my life lol.
Thanks so much uploading Rudolf Forsyteh

A bit of a sad ending. This is a wonderful series! Second time around I've watched all 6 episodes. Wish there were more like this.
I love all of P.D. James' novels, so thank you so much for these videos.
Thank you for posting this series, I have throughly enjoyed it.
Thank you for making it possible to see this great series!
P D James ... always intelligent mysteries so thankyou for these
Really great- what will I do when there’s no more!
Watch the two with Martin Shaw, watch the new series with Bertie Carvel to compare them, listen to teh BBC audio dramas, and read all the books (one has not been filmed -- The Private Patient).

Surprised to see thm drinking Budweiser beer. LOL
Before that, the Inspector was drinking Fosters, which is an Australian beer!
Thank you.

Inspector Ghote...yes, I thought that was very cute too.

Of course they are computer generated, and, as a result, are useless.
I enjoyed all the episodes except this one goes in to many different directions and Marsden not involved the other policeman Ricard was great!

That's no Tony Haygarth playing Rickards, that's Farley Mowat! (Just kidding, but wow! The resemblance is uncanny).

I knew it - said so in Ep. 4 :) !

Yep - I get so annoyed I deliberately avoid any product advertised, it put's you right off ...😒🤢
James Faulkner looks like Jimmy Smits does anyone else agree.
Damn you're right!!! I'd been racking my brain all through the episodes, wondering WHO he reminded me of!🤔 Thanks!!👌😎👍
I think he looks like Yul Brenner
I don’t understand the ending
Roy mars den was brilliant
More than a den, a lighthouse.
Why the gap in his last name of Marsden?
@@MrLyndarenaud Sorry about that.Private joke, it's a pun. His den, is his home, the windmill.
anyone know what song is playing in the pub when Dalglish picks Jonathan up.
Was wondering that myself! Sounds like a cross between Status Quo and The Birdie Song.
I guessed the murderer!
Aha: that jacket of his is faux-leather! (47:50)
Your conscience needs to be formed by Scripture and Tradition, and not directed by feelings and emotions, which can be manipulated by one's desires.
Sorry but disappointed with ending after hours of watching. Good actors, disjointed storyline and bad ending.
Do they really drink Budweiser in the UK?
rikard seemed like drinking pocari ( joking)
Yes
@@bom7572 I have a hard time understanding that, yet I see cans of Bud sitting on tables in British TV shows.
@@tedkijeski339 Yes it is sold bottled and canned in our supermarkets and pubs too in bottles, sometimes on tap
This American wouldn't drink that awful swill here in the USA let alone any other country where they make fine stouts.
Man kills 5, woman kills 1. And the winner is Him. The loser is Her. Why is Man so cruel? Love❤Roy Marsden!
P.D. James wrote that a mature heterosexual man decides to have sex with another man one night. Really? Still enjoyed the series.
Toby was a younger bisexual who had a night with the older gay Miles. It’s probable.
I think he looks like Yul Brenner
And then 20 years later Germany did say No to Nukes. Caroline was on the right team after all.

This was the worst Dalgliesh. I arrive at the end without understanding who done wot. So long, so tangled, so many plot lines. Too many characters.
Agree!! Fake fire scene too
"Does that all go for nothing because she chose to have her life sex with someone else?" Yes, it bloody well does! What crap, P. D. James, what crap!
