A Forgotten Family Cemetery

Thanks to Walter for taking us out to this little family cemetery. It’s kinda far from home, but hopefully sometime soon we can make it back and clear off those larger tree limbs.

Yes Robert the rawness and unplanned content made it even more engaging than usual. I have family interred litterally all over the USA and the world. Now im in Peru........its easy to loose track of family in life let alone in death

I work for a tree company that do line clearance and today we were working in a place that is a family commentary but is all forgotten is a lot of graves . I check it in the internet and found out that is a Historic Glenwood Landing Cemetery Landmarked.
But is full of woods just similar to this one

I was always told all Graves faced East because when the Lord returned he would break the Eastern sky there are a lot of old sayings people used to carry down through the generations but they're all gone now

Yes. My mother, who is nearly ninety and lives in rural Yorkshire (UK) told me the same thing. Further to this, she said that priests are buried the other way around. At the second coming, the congregation would rise to the east whereas the priests would rise to the west to greet their people.
I have seen a number of graves of priests facing west, so there may be something in it.

This was so touching, to be at this old cemetery, with your relatives, who lived some 160 years ago. I wonder if there would be anything in the town records about them, like a death certificate or a newspaper from back in that time that might have an obituary. I love these videos! I recently found an old cemetery in the mountains where I live, there's only about 6 graves marked with Fieldstones, I can't find any history whatsoever on it, no names, just looks to be abandoned for some years, curiosity gets the best of me, I lived here all my life within a mile or so of the cemetery, and never knew it existed, neither does any older neighbors in this area..has me stumped for sure..

I enjoy all of your videos but this one especially. My Gr. Gr. Grandparents are Hewitts and Robertson;s from Cartersville, Cumberland Co., Virginia. Through my genealogy research I discovered that there is an old forgotten family cemetery next to the family home there. I learned of it from an obituary. My grandpa Charles Robertson is buried there. I live in Oregon so unfortunately I will not be able to go look for it. Keep those videos coming. I look forward to them.

I found you not long ago and have thoroughly enjoyed your treks. Do you ever travel a bit north to Talbot, Taylor, Crawford, Peach and a few further east but central Georgia. That is where my kin are planted. My direct line settled Geneva, Talbot, Georgia and I have a lot of details of the early community. How the town changed when the railroad came through. If you do not travel that far north do you know of another who does the work that you do that I might also watch? Thank you for what you do. I also record a lot of people on findagrave site but my wandering days are more limited.

So cool to see the resting bed of past relatives. We in the Caribbean have relatives from Ireland, Wales, Spain, coming through a main port which is Jamaica, Grand Caiman, corn Island etc. we could not go any further than grandparents. Enjoyed your video reminds me of a family Cemetery my ancestors had in West Virginia someone else had purchased the land took down the Headstones and planted over the top. So sad. glad yours is still intact

I'd be interested to see if you ever come across an old cemetery with stones with the name of Price on them, as I have Price ancestors who lived in Muscogee Co. GA in the 1800s and have not been able to locate where they're buried.

My mother was contacted by an estate attorney because one of my relatives passed and didn’t have a will. She is an heir to the estate which includes a 190 acre tobacco farm with a family cemetery on the property. We’re going to check it out before the property is sold and the funds divided to the heirs. There’s at least 120 people on the heir list.

If it's only your relatives buried in this cemetery and it's a family cemetery then wouldn't that mean that one or more of your relatives owned that land and that your family would still own that land today? The land would have to pass down to newer generations wouldn't it?

I just discovered your videos have been binge-watching ĺast few days. You should show a video of your family cemetery after it's cleaned up. My aunt use to say she did not want to be buried in the family cemetery because she didn't want a tree growing on her. I understand why she said that because it can be problematic getting family to mow the grass inside the cemetery and just keeping it up in general.

Most houses back then were built with stacked stone cellars so if there was a homesite there you would see a decent sized square or rectangular depression in the ground.

Wish you had contact information cause have civil war graves a forgotten cemetery that is very old and entire family was buried at same time they all parishes in a house fire I would love to bring attention to it possibly get people in to help clean it up show respect not only to the forgotten veterans but to the forgotten children

If you want a real beautiful cemetery try the cementeren of Staglieno, in Genua,
The graves are beautiful and you can feel the happy and loving families living the live to the fullest dedicated to beauty.

I love looking at your old Cemetery post those people lived so long ago. Those times were most certainly hard back in those days. They didn't have the conveniences that we have today no electricity nothing I was raised that way too kind of in the 1940s and 50s in rural Oklahoma. But I like to think this way when the Rapture of the church takes place oh, they will be raised from their graves just like we will. At least this way I understand

Great video, my father and I are looking for a forgotten family cemetary of Ellias Wellbourne in Jackson County Alabama. Part of his property was where Goose Pond Golf Course is now near Scotsborro. If anyone has knowledge of it please post.
