      Understand why I’m hurting and all that may have happened.

    Had this done yesterday. Feeling good today. Amazing what they can do with laparascopic technique and so thankful for the skill of surgeons and their teams. I'd like to see the tacks and learn what they are made of. The confidence in which he places the tacks speaks to the surgeons excellent knowledge of the tacks and the surrounding tissues.

    Thanks so much for showing me what was done to me. These days you can’t get your doctor to spend more then two minutes with you either before or after surgery. I had no idea what was involved but now I know why I still hurt a little six days after surgery.

    Hello Dr. Harris. Thank you very much for your informative videos and explanations. You are helping a lot of folk and it's greatly appreciated. I'm a very fit 37 year old male. I've had laparoscopic TAPP surgery with mesh on an inguinal hernia about 10 weeks ago. I was told by my surgeon that I would be able to resume to light jogging after 2 weeks with no restrictions at around 4-6 weeks. I had a decent amount of pain and discomfort during the healing process, did not want to risk anything and only returned to jogging/sports by week 6 once I got pain free. I ran 2, 4 and 5 miles within the first week combined with mobility exercises and light weight training to get some core strength back with no pain or issues. At week 7 I helped a friend move a couch while wearing a lifting belt. Unfortunately a day after I started feeling a every so slight burning sensation that became more intense within a few days. I freaked out and started to feel/press/pull my abdominal area over and over again to look for signs of a recurring hernia. No bump. By doing so I feel like I irritated a lymph or nerv (or scar) from repetitive pressing and touching it multiple times a day. Could the burning/pulling sensation come from that? Could it be scar tissue that is stretching? What are the chances of a recurring hernia and the mesh failing after lifting the couch? I did rest for a week with no change. It's been two weeks now with a burning/pulling sensation. Would you recommend rest or return to light running? Thank you!

    • @CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists
      @CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists  10 місяців тому +1

      Our patients are able to return to full activities after 3 weeks since at that point the strength of the repair is 90%. It would be very unlikely to cause a recurrent hernia at the 7 week mark. Many patients find that they have muscle strains or pulls when resuming activity after taking a long break before surgery and during recovery.

      @@derekfordyce9 Like this video, I had a second repair. My first, was almost three years ago. It was fine until about 8 weeks ago and then I could tell it was returning. I went back to my surgeon and he scheduled a re-repair. I had it done on Dec 15. He explained that a re-repair is more "involved" than a first repair. However, I was out cold so I couldn't tell. I walked home that day (I live 2 blocks from the hospital). Very little pain. I requested 5 Tramadols (I don't like opiods, expecially oxy but T works nicely). I used only 2. Everything else was Tylenol and Advil. Nine days later and I'm pretty much good to go. Oh, and I'm an old dude. So if anyone is sitting on the fence, thinking they'll just live with it, my advice is to get it done. Don't live a reduced life.

    It's WILD to me as someone completely outside of the medical world that it looks like you're just ripping and tearing with these instruments. I always imagine careful and precise cuts for everything. It's also insane to just see these cavities inside the body through a camera. What a trip.

    I had this surgery done 8 weeks ago and I have been very careful to not stress the repair but wanted to get back into elliptical and running training, also did some bench press and lat pull downs and now I feel discomfort and pain sometimes coming from the original hernia where my right inguinal hernia was. resting it now hoping I don’t have to have the surgery again, overall the recovery has gone well though, no noticeable bumps but just desperately don’t want to pay for another surgery and go through the recovery process again

      The tacks used to secure the mesh dissolve over time. There are some tacks that are made of metal which obviously do not absorb, but these particular tacks absorb.

    Do you recommend the laparoscopic or open inguinal hernia surgery? I am trying to learn as much as I can about both and determine which is best for my infant son.. he is having surgery soon on the 18th and he will be 14 weeks old on the day of his surgery:(
    I know the laparoscopic has slightly higher reoccurring rates but it is quicker, which is good. Less time under anesthesia. Is it okay to leave the hernia sac? Does the mesh desolve and become part of the body?

    What would cause urinary urgency about 8 months after laparoscopic tepp repair with polyester mesh? Never had this symptom before surgery. Could the mesh be causing this?

      Urinary urgency is not something that we typically hear from patients after a minimally invasive inguinal hernia repair.

    Hello Sir, Thank you so much for the demonstration, I have a question, I have gone through bilateral inguinal hernia surgery a week ago. After 4-5 days of surgery few times I talked loudly with my family in arguments and sometimes even yelled...so does talking loudly and yelling would hurt my recovery? I'm certainly going to avoid talking loudly or yelling for about a month till i recover 100%

How long till I can push my abdomen while making sure the internal wound/mesh repair has fully healed? 4, 6, 8 or 12 weeks after surgery? I just had this done a few days ago, been super easy recovery so far compared to other things. Only needed to take half an hydrocodone and some ibuprofen on occasion. I’m on day 3 and I haven’t needed anything today. Just making sure I’m moving around each day, going for little walks, helps to prevent stiffness.
      Honestly when I got home it just felt like I hadn’t worked out in a while and then did like 500 sit-ups. Felt like ab workout soreness is all. I little tight in the groin so just move slow. But the incision pain is nonexistent and now all I feel is the inflammation from the mesh and I can feel a little tenderness in that area.
      No issues sitting or showering.

    After six days I still have some abdominal pain. It’s ok when I lay down but getting up, sitting or walking around brings on the pain. Worse at night.
