The most perfect /honest review ever . I got qc30 and qc35 and having exact same problem . Qc 35 is a crazy noise cancelling headphone . I felt if a car honk me from behind I won't. BE able to hear that :) One extra problem is qc 35 hurts my cheekbones area :( can't hear more then 10-15 min .
exceptional video concerning the bose 30 headphones jp. i sincerely hope that bose will take notice of your evaluation of their product and i.m sure that you.ll let them know when you go back to the store to return them. i agree with you that the qc 30,s should at least be on par with the qc 35,s with improved anc functionality for indoor/ outdoor use and at a lower price value for consumers that buy bose products. thanks to your review which is one of the best that i,ve seen on youtube i was considering buying one for myself but for now is a stay away purchase until there,s an better sequal version.
I agree with you about the qc30. Super comfortable, the noise canceling works very well and the battery life is great. But the call quality is absolutely deplorable. I'm a truck driver, so people always complain about noise on my end of the line. I'm pretty pissed about it. They're getting returned tomorrow. Too bad I'm not allowed to drive with over the ear headphones.
I’ve used the QC 30’s for the last year and I experience the same call quality issue. I have to make/answer a call on the phone, not the earbud, people cannot hear me. I’m going to get the QC 35
When you answer a phone call using the Bose QC30, check the bose app on your phone and see if you still the noise cancelling set to 100%. I heard when answering a call it can switch the noise cancelling settings on the headset without you knowing
Great and honest video. I have these now, but haven't opened the package yet, because if I do I cannot return them (local store policy). The price is skyhigh on these and I'm not sure if I am going to take the chance or not. I want to use them for training in the gym, walking outside and a little more. Do not do that many phone calls, but it would be nice if they work for doing so. What to do.... I have seen several videos on these now, some say they are great, others think they are bad. I guess they are a little of both? What else is good for keeping noice out..arent many alternatives for in ear headphones.
The issue with call quality Jason is referring to is that the default setting for phone calls is to minimum noise cancellation. You have to adjust the noise cancellation back up. Not sure why Bose engineers decided to do this but there is a setting on the headphone that allows you to increase the noise cancellation when you are talking on the phone. (you have to do it each time you receive a call) I also understand there is no way to change the default setting for this but it is simply a matter of pushing the button to achieve the desired cancellation level. As for the wind noise, yeah its true. Over the ear earphones will always offer isolation from wind noise that you cant get with in the ear headphones. And lastly there is no way to cancel outgoing noise, only incoming noise. So callers on the other end are hearing you because the mic is good at picking up your voice not because the QC-35's are cancelling the outbound noise. All in all, the issues come down to how you are going to use these things. If you need portability and you don't want to have big headphones on your head when listening to music or around your neck when you are talking to others the QC-30's deserve attention.
Eric Terrell thank you very much for this. I do agree with you that the QC30's deserve attention. They have been my daily drivers since this video and they have grown on me quite a bit. At some point I will do a follow up video containing my current opinions but overall I am very satisfied.
I do think they are a great headphone. Some of the stuff you mention is on point. My guess is that the next ones will have some improvements. You aren't he only ones with those issues. Thanks for your honest review.
I have both and prefer the QC35s. They have twice the battery life, much longer range, better sound, better noise isolation/canellcation and don't look goofy as much as just bulky.
That's weird. I bought this today and I'm on the phone all day, and I called a lot of people, nobody complained. I asked few of them if they can hear me OK and they said it's perfect. I guess I'm going to try one more day ))))))
I use mine operating machinery and people I have talked to on the phone say these are a huge improvement on the hands free in the machinery. big thumbs up from my customers.
Thanks for the review. Honestly, you confirmed what I have read elsewhere- microphone for calls, awful. Also, wind noise- awful. I love Bose but am going to pass on these for running & gym and stick with wired Bose earbuds for running. Bummer, perhaps they will fix the issues before long. Thanks!
I was excited to get some QC30's, since I've been doing a lot of airplane travel. Every single time I've made a phone call, the person I'm speaking with has complained about the call quality. I will definitely be returning them. I'll probably try the QC35's for when I'm flying, and get a different pair of bluetooth earbuds for making calls. I've heard good things about the Jaybirds, and you know anything about good bluetooth earbuds for making calls, let me know.
Great video, Jason! 👍 Your in-depth review (sound/ NC/ usability in different situations etc.) is very helpful! 1.) In your opinion, do the QC35 provide a greater overall experience than the Beats (due to features such as Noise Cancellation etc.)? 2.) Are there any major aspects where Beats outshines the QC35? Thanks!
Thank you very much. The QC35 most definitely provide a better experience. They are my go to headphones with great build quality, comfort and excellent controls. The Beats are however the headphones I use if I need to quickly pair up with a different device using Apples iCloud. For example I have my QC35 always paired to my phone and computer so if I ever grab my iPad I'll bring the Beats because it is so easy to pair them up whereas the QC35 has a more traditional way of pairing. This isn't to say it's not easy to pair the QC35s because it is but if you have Apple products it is super easy to use the Beats. "If" the 35s had the same chip there would be absolutely no contest and if you're aren't using Apple products the Bose takes the cake. Thanks for watching
If possible can you please compare the QC20s 2nd generation with 4 buttons with QC30 and QC35, discussing the sound quality, Call quality and ANC (noise cancelling)?
The first honest opinion! It's amazing how many people are claiming the QC 30's are good. The QC 30's are not Bose quality. They are awful and Bose needs to admit they have a problem.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion of the product but I think people are letting the name and quality of the build distort the reality that it doesn't function at 100% Bose quality. I agree completely that Bose should admit and possibly recall some QC30's to fix a few issues
Thanks for the affirmation. I have to return my qc30s because of the mic. I have the Bose soundsports. Same inline controller and everything, great call quality. I don't understand what went wrong with the 30s. It should be the same mic. Have you heard if it's just select sets with a defect? I really wish I could use them.
good points mate ! agreed fully ! what about the QC 30 multiple device switching, is it as good as the QC35 where you simply flick the switch to connect to the next device and can you registered more than 2 device like the QC35 too ?
Mathieu Bouvier you can connect to two devices on both 30 and 35. I believe it works better on the 35's. I have done a lot of testing with these headphones and I have love and hate thing going on. This are very well built, convenient, comfortable and sound good but the mic isn't as good as the 35's and the noise cancelling can act very funny. I work in a noisy environment and the noise cancelling almost clips when my surroundings get too loud. I am fighting these.
Jason Powers I have a question. I am owner of Bose QC 20... QC 25... and QC3. I chooce the QC20 over the others because the sound quality is much better and has better base in my opinion. I dont care about call quality. My question is, if you have tried the QC 20, is the sound/base quality similar or better compared to QC30? I can get past bad call quality or in windy envirement and stuff as long as the sound quality and base is the same or better than the QC20? I really hope you have tried the QC20 cus its really good sound quality. You can also do a video where you compare all the bose lines.
Info Talk I have both the 20 and the 30 and I'd say the qc30s have better sound than the 20s. I didn't expect it to, and maybe it's because of low quality DACs, which Bluetooth helps avoid, but the 30s are noticeably better to my ears.
Has there been any fix to the noise call issues with the QC30? I have the QC35's right now but am debating to exchange them for the QC30 for the mobility factor and comfort. How does the soundstage between QC30 and QC35? Would you recommend the switch? Thank you.
Probably the main difference is the QC35s have more mics for noise canceling. Did you notice any difference in all day comfort between on ear vs. in ear? Do you push them inside your ear, or do they sit more against your ear?
blondre3000 I live in a Austin so the 35's made my ears heat up and sweat when wearing all day whereas the 30's don't and I push them in my ear. Every few hours I needed to take them out but it's surprising how I'd forget they are even in my ears. All day goes to the 30's. 35's aren't practical for all day
What firmware did you use? Would be interesting to see if it could be firmware related? Because a lot of people is experience your type of problem but there also seems to be a lot of people really loving these headphones.
at the time it was the most up to date. These are great headphones. I think the best in ear but because they hold the title of "the best" the mic should be on par with the 35's and other competitors headphones
Thanks for the review, you just saved me some money. Had high hopes for QC30, but using them for phone calls is too important. Am also disappointed that the cables are just dangling. I have an ancient pair of LG headphones that started this around-the-neck style and even those have a way to keep the earpieces in place on the neckband. Can't believe that Bose with its resources couldn't think of something better than dangling cables. Just sloppy design.
JPNY I think that Bose will most likely listen to the customers and make some changes to these and with a few tweaks including no dangling headphones these will be great.
Jason Powers. I have both the QC 30 and 35 and until you I watched your video I had not experienced any microphone problem with the QC 30. I have been trying very hard for the past 3 days to replicate the issues that have listed with the headset so that I could possibly return it before the return window expires. I have been running while talking on it, I have tried it while driving with a windows down and I also made calls on it while at a noisy gym but non of my callers had any problems hearing me at anytime of my testing. I must admit that the microphone on the QC 35 is a little better but the ability to control the ambient sound on the QC 30 makes it more convenient in making and receiving call. I'm not in any way disputing your unpleasant experience with the QC 30 and I genuinely think I might either have an updated product or you have a faulty copy.

I thought they were really nice earphones. Noise cancellation was pretty good too. The major issue I have is that they don't work well with Windows. I notice a delay with audio and video when they do work and with another pretty high end laptop they completely stutter and are unusable. Really disappointed cause I have a real need for wireless noise cancelling earphones and there seems to be no other option.
The video dossint do the qc30 justice incalls are great and its supposed to have transparent hearing option so u choose noise cancelling or turnup outside sounds so u not need to remove them and u need to update the firmware in the app incase of bugs

kaushik manga prasad when you take into consideration the neck band should have a relatively large battery in it yes the battery could be better. It goes from 50% to plug me in within minutes it seems
It Fucking sucks.. i bought it yesterday fucking waste of money does not cancel any noise at all. just increase more sound through mics when you turn off the noise cancellation , so that you could notice a difference. DO NOT BUY THEM

I have occasionally suffered from intermittent wind noise and popping problem, which is difficult to repeat but the problem definitely exists.
I'm looking at buying one of these. Looks like the 35's. do you think it's ok to use these whilst driving? I've never heard anyone say you shouldn't?
I have been driving with mine in a Freightliner truck with noise cancelling. I think you're ok.
some review said (and many agreed in the comments) that the rubber at both end got loose, and even broke the controls.. (QC30)
Noise cancellation does not muffle the wind???

dooovde they are definitely very nice headphones and I like them too but they don't add up in some areas. Guess we can't have it all
The video dossint do the qc30 justice incalls are great and its supposed to have transparent hearing option so u choose noise cancelling or turnup outside sounds so u not need to remove them and u need to update the firmware in the app incase of bugs
I don't care much for call quality so does the qc 30 cancel sound good.
Adolf Hitler yea, hows the noise canceling feature rating throughout the three?
can you make a video while recording the phone call on the other end to see just how bad the calls are?
Its weird im seeing mixed reviews in regards to the call quality, im guessing you got a lemon, have you tried contacting bose?
Ivan Zagreb I did contact Bose and they asked me to send them in for a replacement. I was still under warranty where I bought them locally and literally just returned them. I returned them instead of exchanged them because they did have any in stock in that store. I will be trying another pair because they are very good headphones that need another shot.
Ivan Zagreb hopefully the next pair will be better but if not I will definitely try recording a conversation
What a beautiful guy. Hope the best for you. Kind regards from Paris...
Sony WI-1000x or the Bose QC30 better ?
all you need to do is update them with the new firmware :)
@Lukasz D: Do you have QC30? Which differences did you notice when updating firmware? Thanks
Hey man the mic is not on the cable my friend those are just buttons Mics are on the ears phones check and u will see
I heard an airplane at a little over 4 min.
My QC30's got malfunctioned within the first week. The green light keeps on continuously and the blue tooth light does not go. Also there is a static sound coming in the earphones when connected and no music!. I called BOSE call centre and some 'indian' sounding chick (probably based in India and having '0' experience of the product or NY market locations) told me to return it back in USA and they will probably refund it.(yes of course you Thieves!)
My advice DO NOT WEAR IT WHILE YOU SWEAT IN THE GYM!!.....the sweat goes into the charging USB slot pretty quickly, as it dangles on your neck and somehow the salty sweat is electrolytically charged to cause havoc instantly with the circuitry (these wireless earphones are not water resistant at all). If I give it back I will want to have the QC35 or my money back from this stupid design. With 300 USD, these research designers couldn't make a water resistant design. Give this one a pass i.m.o.
