I used to be--and I guess I still am--a big Hendrix guy. It's been fun bringing some of these tunes to mandolin without "bluegrassing" them. I try to play them the way Hendrix did.
One of my all time favorite Hendrix tunes.
Solo is blah.

I've always insisted thr mandolin is a rock'n'roll instrument... glad to see someone validating that so well! I've been working on some Bowie tunes, myself, although I don't have them anywhere near thee point where I can post them yet.

I have always -ALWAYS- insisted that the mandolin is an overlooked rock & roll instrument. That biting tone works really well, it doesn't even need a distortion box. It works for funk, too.

i started watch mandolin videos about 10 minutes ago cause im thinking of buying one, but seeing this made me sure! this is fucking unreal that sound is just amazing and now im gonna watch it again
Actually, that's just the little mic through my camcorder. It's then "sweetened" with some reverb and delay through iMovie. But, the mandolin really does have that bite to it. That isn't any audio manipulation. It's just accentuated with the effects.

these days kids are listening to stupid tecno and rap crap that aint real music son it has no real instruments the music on this video is the real deal and it aint just somebody pressing stupid buttons it takes a real musician to play the mandolin like he does and just cause the sound of the mandolin isn't appreciated by flatt capers walking around whith their pants sagging it doesnt mean that it aint appreciated by normal people and real musicians hoss
