Thanks for the watch and the comment. My dad is the reason I love the ocean. Good for him! There are two greenling and a dusky rockfish taken in this video. Hopefully some King Salmon and Halibut in the next. Fingers crossed.
Pearlysmoke99 Ewwwww, boatless? I’d rather give up my second property in Alaska.... you know there’s a cure for that. Honda will include the price of the new boat in your Honda Outboard loan.... I bet they aren’t the only ones, just saying, good luck.
The water is 44 degrees F. or 7.5 Degrees C. I have a 6.5 millimeter suit with 5 mil booties and gloves. I change my weights depending of depth but at 40 feet I like 18 to 20 lbs on my weight belt.
All you need is a fishing license. Standard catch limits and regulations apply and you must be fully submerged when you pull the trigger. Other than that it is open season good luck!
Michael Sturm FOLLOW UP QUESTION FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY: I have land in Meyers Chuck, and Edna Bay, so for Southeast.... does it have to be done free diving/snorkeling, or is scuba gear allowed? I would love to do it while snorkeling, but the reality is I’m too old and just can’t get my lungs up to thirty second (used to smoke, etc).... so this is probably out of reach realistically if I have to hold my breath but if I can use scuba in Alaska than I should be good to go and can get into spear fishing as well as diving for abalone.... Thanks in advance, great video, can’t wait to get back up there, the lower 48 is getting worse and worse...
Thank god you got away from that sea lion. Had me nervous.
Oh yeah! I’ve been down to Kachemak bay a few times over the last few years!
Incredible!
Around where is this? I go spearfishing all over Alaska and I’m positive I’ve been diving out here before
So sick!!
Just too small for trophy, but just right for eating.
Awesome! Was this out of Seward?
Kachemak Bay.
Cool! I found your channel via the C-Dory forums, C-Brats. Your dad posted this vid.
That looks like way too much fun. What kind of fish are those?

Michael Sturm oh ps I am on C-Brats as Outdoorsygal. Currently boatless in Michigan but saving my nickels.

@@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans the rockfish is actually a copper rockfish btw
How expensive is spear fishing
It depends on where you are at. In Alaska a suitable wetsuit is pretty pricey.
Congratulations!!! How many degrees have the water? How many millimeters do you use in the suit? And how much ballast do you use in a few meters?

nice video. is that all shot with a go pro? Im a homer native myself. currently spearfishing oregon and washington.
Yeah and a really old go pro at that. I think this was a hero 4 silver.
Do we need a permit to do spear fishing? I am going to for wainwright Alaska.
