Live In Italy Milan 07.06.1994 Vocals: David Coverdale Guitar: Warren DeMartini Guitar: Adrian Vandenberg Bass: Rudy Sarzo Drums: Denny Carmassi Keyboards: Paul Mirkovich
Oh God, I was there!! It was Sonoria, an open-air festival in Milano. Other acts were Jackyl, Zakk Wylde's Pride & Glory, Sass Jordan, Helmet, Steve Lukather, Huey Lewis, Sepultura, plus an useless Italian band, Timoria. Blind Melon were also on the bill but they cancelled. Aerosmith were the headliners and Whitesnake played just before them. We had a ball that day, but the sun was hammering so hard that the day after I was as red as a lobster. Since the bill was very hard rock/metal oriented I remember thinking that Huey Lewis & The News were bound to get bottled off the stage… Quite the contrary, they rocked our socks off and everybody was dancing and singing like there was no tomorrow!
This show looks a bit flat and lacking energy, HOWEVER, the 90s were a difficul time for classic rock, because the industry were investing all the money on Nirvana-style rubbish. Therefore, for me, Coverdale deserves huge credit - he was one of the very few big names who carried on touring during the 90s, to try and keep this music alive.
There was SO much more going on in the 90s than the Seattle scene. Not to mention ‘heritage’ bands like Aerosmith were doing just fine through the whole decade. It was Coverdale’s choice to deviate from a more blues-based sound and jump on the hair metal trend in the late 80s - a trend that had simply passed out of fashion after a few years. Personally I loved the Slip Of The Tongue lineup, but there was always going to be a shelf-life to that over-the-top style.
Saw this line-up in Sheffield in '94. Not the best, but not bad considering it was put together in a hurry to promote the Greatest Hits album. Glad I got to see them with Vandenburg and Sarzo.
Caramassi is a great player but you can tell vandenberg and sarzo weren’t used to his interpretation of the tunes he’s certainly not playing badly but they had such an irreplaceable groove going on with tommy Aldridge, that slip of the tongue lineup really was spectacular.
@@hsbrockman Well paice was always going to go back to purple and I think in cozy’s case he wouldn’t have been happy with being a hired gun Whitesnake Is David Coverdale everybody else is an employee of Coverdales but Cozy’s stature at the time would’ve dictated more of full member status.
LOL what happened here? I thought it was a cover band at the start, this is bad, I seen Whitesnake a few times, between 87 and 06 thankfully all great gigs.
Sorry to say it but as a fan some of the guitars on this is unrecognizable to my ears ! No comparison to the one & only John Sykes! Awful line up!Only Greatness can copy Greatness!
John Sykes🤔 mmm no comparison to the one and only Bernie Marsden, and Steve Vai. The only great guitarists whitesnake ever had. Sykes pales in comparison, he was OK in thin lizzy, but killed whitesnakes classy blues sound totally and made em sound too MTV friendly.
Playing a different solo from the one in the original recordings(played by Sykes) doesn't mean that it's a fail. Warren used a different feeling (w/ the volume pot turned down for a more dynamic tone, instead of the ridiculous amount of gain which Sykes used for the record) and I think he made a good work.
+Coco Lucho it's not fail it's improv did you hear a bad note I sure didn't he just didn't play the original nothing wrong with that George Lynch does that 90% of the time he solos
Fire the sound man...and the solo for Is This Love was crap...even Coverdale laughed at it... this makes me want to create new adjectives to describe this pflantorific clustercrap of a performance.🤣
Acho que é para não pagar direitos autorais pro John Sykes quem criou o solo. Mas o guitarrista em questão é excelente não é só riffeiro nao, o Warren Demartini
Yeah. 'Oh Joy'. playing right into the hot afternoon sun. This is Listless. feel sorry for the guys... David...is barely 'Eeeking out' a Vocal worth dogshit. bummer.
I would hate to be Vandenberg or DeMartini and have to try and rip out Vai or Sykes solo's. Both are great guitar players but play more by feel and not as technically, especially when it comes to the Vai stuff. It was cool to see Vai onstage with whitesnake recently.
Warren had as much technique as Vai or Sykes....if you don't believe it, go back and listen to the effortless speed and precision Warren consistently displays on Out of the Cellar.....
@@joewalker511yea no he didnt, definitely doesnt have the picking chops sykes or vai did, there’s a lot of legato on those speedy parts on out of the cellar and he definitely didnt have the rhythm chops vai does
@knightfall9394 Who told you pickers are better technically than legato players? Holdsworths technique was practically unmatched and many pickers gave up picking to technically become better players: Greg Howe and Jason Becker come to mind.Warren was known for his chops in the early eighties, and to view him as a "feel" because he opted for the more fluid than picking legato technique is silly....
Now I wonder if Warren only can shine in Ratt or not. Obviously, he can not fit in whitesnake, also I heard about he used to rehearsal with Dio couple of times, it didn't work either.....
обязательно надо насрать в коментах? Не нравится-не смотри, огромная куча вылизанных оф видео, мне лично интересно такое сырое-как они в действительности выглядели в то время.
Thanks for uploading???...More like thanks for making me 🤮...the guitars were out of tune for Fool for your Love. Warren DeMartini phoned in the solo for Is This Love. The keyboard was lost in the mix for some if not most of show, except for intros, the background vocals on Here I go Again was like it was sung with an Italian accent.( And WTF was singing that high note?🤣😁).....this was like a plane crash...you know it's bad, but you just can't stop looking. WTH was going on with the timing of the intro to In Still of the Night EFFIN HILARIOUS 🤣. It's like they didn't rehearse. Coverdale asked the replacements " Hey do you know the songs"?... The guys answered "sure..I think so"...lol " I mean I've heard them before" 😆😄🤣...
This sounds so dry. Guitars should be way fatter. I'm glad Coverdale laid down this band on ice for a while to find people who could lay down all the classic stuff with the 1987 sound.
Yeah, this is a pretty lackluster performance but in ‘94 the music scene was so different. These guys probably felt like dinasaurs at the time after only just a few years before being held in such high regard. I personally wasn’t listening to this music at the time. I admit I moved on to more modern music at the time. Just a few years later I went back to my roots and I’ll be there for the rest of my life. There were many others like me who moved on as well. Point is, to be a working musician from that era must have been heartbreaking. Warren took a job because he probably needed the work. Having said all that, it’s a flat performance for sure.
I partially agree with the WDM comment, however, this whole damn show was so lethargic I would have walked out. Coverdale just had no connection with this audience whatsoever, so don't blame Warren for the band's lackluster synergy, not buying that for a second. This gig just stunk.
Agreed. Adrian's Peavey's were cool as hell.. The body shape and the reverse headstock. It just looked fast... Warren while a great player, not a good fit for Whitesnake... I will bet Warren did this stint in Whitesnake just for the bag. He didn't even look like he was into the songs. Totally get the "I have to show up to get paid" vibes.. lol
good concert from the rock legends whitesnake. live in italy 1994. wow and warren demartini from ratt on the guitar here with whitesnake wow i had no idea, cool he has played a few concerts with these guys so blown away by that. even though the backing vocals are awful here, at least david kicks ass. just wow warren was in whitesnake and ratt come on he gets a shit load of street credit for that.
The backing vocals aren't bad, and I like David Coverdale quite a lot as a singer, but he's the one here who is rough as hell. For being obviously not his best day vocally, he handled it pretty good. If I sound like this in the first few songs of the night, I'm done pretty quick
man, the guitars are out of tune...adrian van singing higher than coverdale...the band members are out of tempo in some parts...David needed some time off to seek for new people, for sure.
Sounds like a board recording. Sarzo & Vandenberg hung out for the long haul in this gig for sure. Warren probably did it for the money? I don't think he was in it for too long

Why such ENORMOUS Guitar Player like DeMartini destroys literally some of the most important solos of WS catalog turning them into a sea of banality? Even i can reply exactly the same solo of "Is This Love"!!! COME ON! Yeah. Im a fan of Warren. But, this wasnt a good fit for him. He lacks the aggressive attack John Sykes had. Plus, where's the tremolo picking? Sykes tremolo pick much of the rhythm.
I have to agree with all the comments referring to, in my opinion, a pitiful and lacklustre performance by a line up that just doesn’t gel. David usually gives a gutsy, passion driven performance but not on this occasion. The sound balance is appalling and the backing vocals dominate but not in a good way. David was having a rare off day...just going through the motions it appears. Thank the Gods of Rock ‘n’ Roll for the John Sykes era.
DC's voice sounds shot here, hes not singing the notes any more, just yelling a version of the tunes. Shame, because he had a brilliant voice in the 80's😢
Denny Carmassi's drum clinic performance during what could otherwise best be described as a musical Snakewreck(!) is the real bright spot here. Plus, the cheesy keyboard sounds resemble wan early-to-mid eighties presets a la "Jump" and "The Final Countdown!!"
I saw Whitesnake on the Slip Of The Tongue tour with Vai and Vandenberg and Adrian held his own with Vai, he was fantastic. He pretty much did all the John Sykes solos and Vai did the leads for the Slip Of The Tongue stuff. This line-up must not have had enough practice time together before going out to tour. Sykes was the best fit for Whitesnake, it's a shame that Coverdale didn't work it out with him.
I liked the Vai line up. However I knew from the very first moment I heard Vai was in Whitesnake that it wouldn't be for long. Passion and Warfare was being released. Plus Vai had become more a solo guy than a band guy. I will say my favorite line up though for Whitesnake was Doug Aldrich, Tommy Aldridge, Reb Beach, and Marco Mendoza. Saw that line up in 2003-2004ish. Amazing show
Despite the musicians' obvious ability,on show here, this line-up stinks. Despite, Coverdales'soundbites & friendship,Adrian Vandenburg isnt good enough to play the fierce stuff,in anyway. He may be a team player, etc, great @ prancing & mincing etc in videos. Fact is,John Sykes he isnt, not, anywhere near.
+morenoarts I'm waiting for your punchline....Who cares what ANYONE thinks on UA-cam.. Opinions, Opinions,Opinions.. You find me a guitar teacher, that has a student, that wants to play like Adrian Vandenburg.....
WOW, without John Sykes the song 'Bad Boys' is actually a boring uneventful collection of noise. - Not even the mighty Warren DeMartini can salvage it. - Brutally disappointing.
FUCKIN AWFUL! as i say in my comment you have to play those incredible beautiful solos as close as they was conceived! I guess Coverdale tought Both DeMartini & Vanderberg had to play the classics in a more blues/orientated way... FAIL!
David takes my breath away. He is SO fine and that powerhouse voice! I was lucky enough to attend one of his concerts in the 80's. He could put his hair up, put on a 3 piece suit, get a pipe and become a university professor with that deep voice and intellect, turn around and become a hot rock star babe. He's got it ALL.💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
That is unfortunately the case,,Coverdales voice is gone ,, I saw them last year and various video clips and it is pitiful, The band were GREAT but his voice was terrible, Sad really
When i saw him he was pretty good . At 66 you dont recover as easily , a bad night can happen. Also many of you judge Coverdale on the MTV era to today . But in 1987 and 1990 , David went too far in Highness considering his natural register . Now he is older . Also David original style , is more like howlin wolf in Hard rock version. And often as you get older ... His style is heavier , more raspy as and agressive . Its not because its not that clean than in 1987 that is bad . Also in Deep Purple london 74 , Long beach 1976 , and even On Coverdale page he had this more growly tone , and screaming like a pig . It wasnt like its new ...

You can’t judge the lineup or the performance by listening to this audio. Did they record this with a potato?
Listen to Slip and work with Pahe again DC was already ignored lessons from 83 to 86 that temporarily improved his singing. Back to 83 thin voice.

Amazing show
Sottoscritto Presente a questa giornata che dire Indimenticabile e riduttivo assolutamente.
Anch'io!! Bei ricordi!
Sorry. This is terrible line up
Denny Carmassi - monster drummer
Great underrated musician... really like watching him play. That’s what I want to “look” like while I’m playing....
Saw him with heart. He was great. This show is a bit of a shambles to be honest.
I ain't very gonna leave u baby ??is this a song ?By Zep??ughhhhh
@46:42 in the still of the night from the whitesnake album 1987.
Show very weak 🎵🎼🎶🎤🎹🎸😎👊
Simply my opinion 🎸😎👊
Despite the musicians' obvious ability,on show here, this line-up stinks.
Despite, Coverdales'soundbites & friendship,Adrian Vandenburg isnt good enough to play the fierce stuff,in anyway.
He may be a team player, etc, great @ prancing & mincing etc in videos.
Fact is,John Sykes he isnt, not, anywhere near.
His solo on SOTN is not acceptable here.
Ive seen tribute acts much, much more authentic...
R Snowdon who cares about your facts when they're based on your opinion I'm not saying ya wrong or right it is for what it is
+morenoarts I'm waiting for your punchline....Who cares what ANYONE thinks on UA-cam..
Opinions, Opinions,Opinions..
You find me a guitar teacher, that has a student, that wants to play like Adrian Vandenburg.....
This is horrible!
43:42 the stage left floor camera says EFF THIS I'M OUT.😆😄🤣
De Martini and all... These guys sucked!!!
❤Любезние ребята,такіе взаємне Whitesnake!❤Lev!.Bed Boys! Aria!Надо било приглашеніе привітання прислати,я прііхала,ми с тобой гарні друзі,обидва.
Mr. DC having a bad day...
shite ..
WOW, without John Sykes the song 'Bad Boys' is actually a boring uneventful collection of noise. - Not even the mighty Warren DeMartini can salvage it. - Brutally disappointing.
Steve Hunt
Worse than that sounded lisi they cheated their way on the guitar parts through 3/4 of the song. Awful performance.
FUCKIN AWFUL! as i say in my comment you have to play those incredible beautiful solos as close as they was conceived! I guess Coverdale tought Both DeMartini & Vanderberg had to play the classics in a more blues/orientated way... FAIL!
@@nicholastotoro7721 i sadly agree. vocals are garbage to.
@@endtyme1345 awful vocals
@@GuitarguyRichard56 Yeah bro! everything sounds completely forced and uninspired
Why does DC look like Jamie St. James here lol
"Here is a song for ya ...au au au auuuuuuu" \m/
DC's face looked like he's on prednisone in some angles.
The worst version of Whitesnake ever.
Not their best, but really fun.
Backing vocals sound bad.
I saw them in Padova some years ago with Europe. David didn't have voice, he was terrible.
Cigarette smoking didn't help his voice
is that Rudy on the Bass?
Yeah..... Absolutely....
@@lolanheadwood4156 thanks for the info bro
