Happy spring! I’m in western Oregon (Willamette valley). I planted my peas last weekend and potatoes, lettuce, spinach, radishes and carrots are in. I’m sitting outside in the partial sun watching my goats run and play. They don’t get outside much this time of year cause they hate rain! Glad to see you back in the garden!

I am totally with you on how peas bring a sense of peacefulness to gardening. My Mormor (grandma) grew peas and always let us go out to her garden and devour what we wanted. She passed away when I was ten, now in my fifties. I get super excited when I find that first full pod, snap it open, and savory the sweetness inside and remember a time so long ago. I find shelling them so relaxing and satisfying to my soul. It's bizarre to some people, lol my family, but there isn't anything better! Well, maybe that first green bean!

In Northcentral WV, the rhubarb, thyme, oregano, mint, and echinacea (perennials) are growing well. Planted peas and lettuce a couple of weeks ago. Dixondale onions arrived yesterday, so I hope to get those in the ground this week. Potatoes and cabbage, followed by broccoli and cauliflower, will be next. Using your garden planner/journal. I am having a great start to my gardening year here in North Texas zone 8A- I have planted Wando Peas (heat and cold tolerant) and they are taking off and I am so far very pleased with them. I also planted Kelvedon Wonder peas as they did fabulous for me last year and produced huge peas. I have also planted carrots, onions and garlic and am doing a trial run with onions, beets, kohlrhabi and potatoes. All seem to be doing very well, but we will see how they do once the heat sets in. I also have tomatoes started inside as well as some marigolds and peppers. I am so excited about gardening season this year!

I'm in Zone 7b in the southeast US, and my peas, beets, turnips, kale, collards, onions, leeks and garlic are already growing. The peas were planted back in mid/late February, and are showing their first tendrils now. Where I am, peas only get about a 2 week window for harvest, so I plant Green Arrow peas which are a dwarf variety that has about 10 peas per pod. I sowed about 750 this year, and it probably still won't be enough!

Between today and tomorrow we will be doing potatoes, planting out a granny smith apple tree, pink blueberry bush and transplanting a dogwood tree and elderberry bush that I thought the ants had killed last year. April 1st will be onion transplants, radishes and beets, April 5th will be peas. I'm doing the gardening by the moon method. Worked very well for us last year so I'm continuing it.

Hi, I am in central CO at about 8900’ elevation with a 90 day mostly frost free garden season. Our bad weed here is bindweed which is a wild morning glory type weed that is impossible to get rid of. It wraps around the stems of other plants and chokes them out. The roots break very easily and can grow with very little root in the ground. Just a horrible plant!! Glad to see you with your hands in the soil. Happy gardening!

Have you ever considered starting your seeds using the Winter Sowing method? This is my third year and so far, it's been great for me. I have a small house with no room inside for starting seeds in it. Plus, it gets me 'playing in the dirt' at the end of February. I do have some sweet potatoes growing slips in a $ Tree container and am looking forward to having a nice crop of them. I still have about half of a box in the garage from last year's harvest. Best of luck with your garden this year.

So I am in Houston Texas so I have a little warmer and I think we’re done with the frost. I did over winter some bell peppers that I’ve already took back outside and they’re doing good. I’ve started a bunch of seeds, onion seeds I think I saw in my garden or someone say after about eight weeks, separate them, and start putting them in the soil I do have onions getting ready to be done I planted in fall. I also planted recently too big old batches of potatoes. I did garlic for the first time hopefully be done by July. I’ve already done with my first batch of lettuce and I still have some kale I planted some tomatoes in trays and a couple of squashes in the ground in the soil. I do container gardening where I live in my backyard. I have no grass no grass, so I have to use those massive big containers and I’m four years into gardening. Oh my carrots are gonna be ready to pull by June. I’ve gotten so good at carrots I’d like to succession grow carrots as well I even have a big pear tree that provides shade for cooler Cooler weather plants that won’t get so much sun to where they’re gonna burn. I’ve done spinach for the first time in a smart bag hanging basket it’s on my porch so I look forward to that. My spinach in my backyard garden is doing well. I’m so happy that your back out in the garden, hope you wish you much success I look forward to looking and learning from y’all guys🌱🌱🌱🥦🥕 🧅 🥔 🥬 🍐 🍅

I planted lettuce and spinach already and they've sprouted even with our cold snap, and tomatoes and peppers are in the greenhouse. What's the best sugar ratio for peas? I planted a bunch last year after soaking them to sprouting and the birds ate at least three beds i planted on the trellis, about 200 peas. I think your birds are celebrating and meal planning in the background. 😂 All i found every day were holes in my soil and it was all the green arrow variety. So nice to see you back in your garden. It really was strange not seeing any gardening videos from you even though i know you needed the rest. Thanks for your content Rachel!

YES! looking forward to seeing your garden go from brown to green. NEVER gets old to see how the Lord has given us the joy (and yes it's hard work, but we were forewarned of that after The Fall) of seeing pounds of produce or dozens of flowers come from one little seed. Now, finding less large oak tree seedings and random pecan trees (with DEEP tap roots already) in bad locations is another story, but they too are a reflection of the Almighty Creator's handiwork...like you mentioned...all those little strawberry seedlings 🤗

I'm about to move to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, so no planting yet. Looking forward to starting tomato seeds in mid-April, and get some radishes/salad turnips/lettuce going as soon as makes sense. :)

I heard killdeer in Sparta! My peas are going in in the next few days, too. It's nice to be in the garden "with" you again!

Hi Rachel! I’m trying the Lincoln pea this year. FEDCO Seeds (a Maine co-op with a great mission) sells 2 oz for $3 (approximately 160 seeds). I agree and LOVE MIGardener seeds, but for the quantity needed, I won’t order peas from them except to try varieties.

Northeast SD, absolutely nothing is being planted in my gardens yet! Way too cold, dropping below freezing every night and barely above during the day! We should move so I can garden sooner!!

Here in Manistee area, no planting yet, below freezing the next few days. My lettuce is coming up in my green stalk in my greenhouse. I had let lettuce go to seed at the end of the season, so on a warm day a month ago, I pulled up the old plants, and sprinkled the seeds over the soil, and watered them in. Starting to empty last years pots into a bin, to refresh the soil for this year. I have broccoli, brussel sprouts and cauliflower started, and a few peppers sprouting indoors. Going to start some flowers, herbs and tomatoes next week.

Here in South Wales, I have my beds prepared but the ground is too wet to plant anything 😔 I have a dinning room full of seedlings, onions sets will be the first thing to go in the ground, but I think they would just rot at the moment.

Love peas! Anyone, Question- last season i had a lot of my pea plants severed right at the base. Ideas as to What might be the pest? Only evidence was earwigs or slugs. But no other damage . Very disappointing.
