The video doesn't tell the story, the song paints a picture and the video just enhances it! The soldier in the video is a child actor way before your time! Alison Krauss is a legend in blue grass/folk music genre.
The one who plays the soldier in the music video is named Rick Schroder who is an actor in several movies. The one who plays the little girl at the end of the video is his real life daughter.
The video on your show started late in the original video. I hope you saw it all from the beginning. Aside from the silk of Brads voice and the beautiful voice of Alison, Ricky Schroeder’s (Silver Spoons) portrayal of the soldier, was perhaps his best acting. In defense of the woman, he went off to war, his days filled with following orders, fighting, and trying to survive to come home. Sadly, hers were filled with heartache, loneliness, and emptiness. If you notice, in the first bar scene, she is imagining dancing with him. Later, she is desperately searching for him, but could never quite connect with him. Watch her flinch under accusing eyes, as the guns salute at his funeral. War isn’t easy, for those that go and fight in fear, and those that wait in fear. The little girl at the end was not a daughter of theirs, but a child blessed with being able to see the two ghosts finally find, and forgive each other.
Even though I do not agree with cheating, she was young, lonely and everyone makes mistakes. Appeared to be earlier than Vietnam, so WWII or Korea maybe. I just wish they could have worked it out before alcohol consumed them both, but then it wouldn't have been Whiskey Lullaby!
This one hits a little to close to home for me. I ived through something similar when my fiance broke up with me, while I was overseas. I was raised ny people who survived World War II. I heard stories about men who were drafted in early 1942 who returned in late 1945 to wives with one year old children. I also learned about the abject terror that Marines felt during the Pacific campaign. The fear of falling asleep, only to be slaughtered by the silent Japanese slithering into his fighting hole to slit his throat or bayonet him. and then, he comes home to this level of betrayal. The viseo had many objectionable aspects, but the ones that were most noticeable to me were his family allowing her to attend his funeral and allowing her to be interred anywhere close to him.

This is one of saddest songs I've ever heard. I never can listen to this song without shedding a tear, and Alison's angelic voice just pierces your soul. Here's another suggestion and this artist actually achieved success here on UA-cam. He is a great storyteller and is just as talented on the guitar. He's also got a pretty big following here on UA-cam. "Colter Wall - Evangelina - Acoustic cover - Little Jack Films"
Great artist, I love both of them. Great reaction too! Nobody is worth drinking yourself to death over. I think learning to fail forward is really important. This is such a sad song. 😢 I was in the Navy and I was gone for 6 months at a time, shit happens. 🤷♀️
Allison's first song and still one of my favorites is called "Steel Rails" also too this song still bring me to tears my now ex wife left me after i had my stroke and became disabled cause she didnt want a husband who couldnt work cause i was disabled.
Alison Kraus is awesome-i love her bluegrass stuff-i can see why people like living in places where that music was made popular…just makes you think of simpler times when there was no PC ca-rap ruining EVERYTHING.
The difficulty of the family that sticks with the service personnel through it all, TDY (temporary duty), deployments, moving again and again, that is less known than that the person serving goes through. It is sooo much more than them going on a long trip, the family must take care of the home, school, work, job, vehicle, problems, celebrations, holidays, all without their loved one who is also missing out!
I absolutely love Alison Krauss. She has a very unique voice. I know it every time I hear it now. I know this is probably the first song you've heard her on. Check out some more of her songs. She is also a very talented fiddle player. This song with her and Brad is basically a classic even though it probably doesn't fit the required time period for it to be a classic yet. The story of this song is very tragic. I served in the US Army for over 20 years and I was one of the lucky ones to have never experienced anything like this. My wife and I have been together for 40 years now. I do know of and witnessed the effects of something like this happening to soldiers that have been away from their loved ones. It can get pretty ugly sometimes. Again, I thank the Lord that I have a devoted, loving wife that put up with all the hell that being deployed to a war zone can cause. She's truly MY ROCK! I loved your reactions to this video. 👍👍
Just a couple of suggestions if you would like think about them are, Kenny Chesney - There Goes My Life and from Scotty McCreery - Five More Minutes. Just a warning the Scotty song may be a little tear jerker if you are a big softy like myself.
Ya'll are doing a great job in trying to make your subscribers happy. This was a great song, video and reaction! And yes I did say "ya'll". I'm from Georgia and that's what we say here. Lol. Keep up the good work guys. And, thank you for your sentiments for our military. As a veteran myself unfortunately this type of thing happens all the time. Sad!
I've always said the first verse of this song is probably one of the most epic verses in any song as far as I'm concerned. She put him out like the burning end of a midnight cigarette
Thank You for react to this song. The end is like she end up together end the end. And why people use Alcohol to make the pain go away ? i will not go away is just make it worse. Can you guys react to Brad Paisley - he didn't have to be. Thank you have a great day.
Agree...Alison Krauss may have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Another great story/music video is Brooks and Dunn's "Believe", with a powerful vocal by Ronnie Dunn and heartfelt story.
Loving your channel so far. Beautiful couple, and you seem to really be getting why country music is different, because it speaks to love, loss, and real life. Love from Arkansas...keep up the good work!
The return of love is the most powerful and I agree they both sing like Angels. I love you two.... She almost got on you for a min. bro! lol. Yall are great keep it up. AND ..Thank you for the Paisley rabbit hole...its a good way to do it VS dropping one and then waiting till 2 months later...it works as a change-up from others as well.
I believe that in the beginning of the song, everyone else doesn't or hasn't yet found that rock in their lives as he did with her. When that rock is broken, the damage of the war takes its toll the courage he had to keep moving forward to get back to the love of his life. The war floods back into his memories and the betrayal of this woman to and its to the point that he drinks and in turn takes his own life.
Imagine being a wife/girlfriend of a soldier in WW2... not hearing from him or knowing if he was alive/dead for years on end ... finally giving in to temptation when your man returns... These things did happen from what I have heard. War is hell and everyone suffers.
we thought we'd add it to the end so if people want to watch they can, and if not then it wont interfere with the video. but thank you for the feedback !! we'll keep doing it
@@lysiandartie5458 by the way I don't know if you heard or listen to Check Yes or No by "King of Country" George Strait it might be a good one to check it out. I know y'all are swamped with requests. But I am putting it out there
@@lysiandartie5458 very true. I compare it to Stay by Sugarland because they both make you think twice about a common situation where people often rush to judgement
Keep diving through Allison Krauss. If you’ve seen O Brother, Where Art Though, she was one of the vocalists in the “siren” scene. From the first time I heard her in the early 90’s, I always said she was like a siren from Greek mythology.
There is a lot more to this video. The director is the soldier. He also played in the movie Lonesome Dove. The kids at the end of the video are his real children. They finally find forgiveness in death that they could not find in life. Ironically, his name on the cross is Ramond Bartlett. The same name an my neighbor. The only difference the girls name is not the same as Raymond's wife(my neighbor).
Alison has a voice that's heaven sent. You should definitely look into her songs, from back in the 90's to today, her voice has stayed just as pure and beautiful. She's done duets with everyone from the Irish group The Chieftains (Molly Ban is a must hear), to James Taylor (What's Going on in Your World) and Robert Plant (Can't Let Go)
The legendary Alison Krauss who has won 27 Grammy awards and had won more than any other woman until Beyonce came along with the machine behind her. I don't think you can get "carried away" when saying how good she is...
When you love a woman with every fiber of your being, you see no other, need no other, want no other and still yet she does this. It's been almost 14 years now and I still love her as much as I ever did. But I would never sing that lullaby. " the dead have no need of the living....."
Just a reminder that one stupid mistake can destroy a life, and that Cheating ruins all parties involved. (Speaking of cheating, you should react to Sugarland's "Stay")
You should familiarize yourself with Alison Krauss Union Station. They're the finest Bluegrass(NewGrass?) band around for the past 30 years. I saw them at a Missouri concert in 2004, and would go again in a heartbeat. Find Jerry Douglas playing "Tribute to Peador O'Donnell". I can't stop listening to it. It's a different tune played on a very nice sounding resonator slide guitar(dobro).
If you guys haven't checked it out already one of my absolute favorite songs is Angles Hands by Rodney Adkins. It's a beautiful sad song and I will always recommend it.
Some lady country singers to check out: -Sugarland - Stuck Like Glue -SheDaisy - Lucky For You -Dixie Chicks - Goodbye Earl -Reba McEntire - The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia - or- Fancy -Martina McBride - Independence Day -or- Concrete Angel
This song has always held a special place to me as a fully disabled combat veteran who deployed, left my apartment, truck and one of my bank accounts open to a girl I was in love with. Only to find out when I got home that she was using my apartment as her personal *UCK pad. She was *ucking two different guys IN MY BED and in my Nissan Titan, all while I was in a combat AOR. Then years later she tried to get back with me because she said “nobody ever treated me like you did, I was young and stupid…..”. Yes it does happen in real life all the time!!
Id like to get your take on Bobby Gentry’s Ode to Billy Joe it’s a great story as well as a great song. You’ll have plenty to talk about with this one. Enjoy watching you guys, keep up the good work.
Thing to remember is that we all make mistakes. And our mistakes sometimes hurt the ones around us. She hurt him, no doubt. But if he didn't truly love her, it wouldn't have been enough pain to drive him to drink himself to death. And in turn, the fact that she never got over him is a testament to the idea that she truly regretted and repented from what she had done to him. Which means that, even though she faltered, she still, deep down, loved him too. But she f**ked up. And we all, in our own ways, f**k up sometimes. That doesn't make what she did OK, but as one grows as a human, one learns that these things happen in weak moments, and one learns to forgive. He, in the video, learned that after his own death, and in his spirit, still being in love with her, he forgave her, and she, while on earth, never forgave herself for what she did to him. But in death, forgiveness comes more easily. In that way, it is still a beautiful story. We realize when all is said and done, that we have all done things that hurt others. And we regret these things. But once we regret them, we can turn from them and try to do better. It's unfortunate that it sometimes takes coming to and end before we do that. But if you talk to a lot of older people, you'll find them far more forgiving of past offenses (in most cases) than younger people. And there's a reason for this. Time, and our own failings, help us to realize that all humans are fallible. And we come to realize, as time goes on, how many things we ourselves have done that hurt those around us -- not necessarily cheating, but a myriad of things. Listen to Johnny Cash's rendition of Trent Reznor's "Hurt" (ideally with the video) for a true illustration of this. Watch the video; listen to the conviction in his delivery. As we age, we come to realize our own failings, and once we realize those, we find it much easier to forgive others. Beautiful video, beautiful story. "The rumors flew, but nobody knew how much she blamed herself." As much as the "burning end of a midnight cigarette" line hits home, Allison's later line also is very telling of the story.
The very first line gets me right where I live. And "put the bottle to his head and pulled the trigger" rips my guts out. I find it very hard to have any sympathy for the woman in the song.
You should listen to Kenny Chesney's "There goes my life", "She thinks my tractor's sexy". You should also do Mark Chesnutt's " Going through the big D", "it sure is Monday", and "it's a little too late". If you haven't done so.
Clay Walker just play fall for that little Lady of yours, she will dig it, brother. I have not met one lady who has not loved that song. Just get her some wine and a great dinner at home, dim the lights and after play that song for her. It is country magic promise.

Great artist, I love both of them. Great reaction too! Nobody is worth drinking yourself to death over. I think learning to fail forward is really important. This is such a sad song. 😢 I was in the Navy and I was gone for 6 months at a time, shit happens. 🤷♀️
thank you so much, and thank you for your service
Allison's first song and still one of my favorites is called "Steel Rails" also too this song still bring me to tears my now ex wife left me after i had my stroke and became disabled cause she didnt want a husband who couldnt work cause i was disabled.
im so sorry to hear that. hope youre doing okay
To me, this is a song about forgiveness. A fantastic song, truly!!
Alison Krauss is one of the best female singers in this generation, she has 27 Grammy awards
Alison Kraus is awesome-i love her bluegrass stuff-i can see why people like living in places where that music was made popular…just makes you think of simpler times when there was no PC ca-rap ruining EVERYTHING.
yes ma'am
The difficulty of the family that sticks with the service personnel through it all, TDY (temporary duty), deployments, moving again and again, that is less known than that the person serving goes through. It is sooo much more than them going on a long trip, the family must take care of the home, school, work, job, vehicle, problems, celebrations, holidays, all without their loved one who is also missing out!
Don’t worry, Alison Krauss does have the voice of an angel. She’s my absolute, favorite female singer.
Just a warning the Scotty song may be a little tear jerker if you are a big softy like myself.
aww that sounds great, we'll add it to the list and try to get to them as soon as we can ! thank you :)
Sad!
Thank you for your service!! and thank you for the sweet comment
Thank you have a great day.
we'll try our best to get to it, and hope you're having a great week
@@lysiandartie5458 No problem you guys take you time.
Agree...Alison Krauss may have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
Another great story/music video is Brooks and Dunn's "Believe", with a powerful vocal by Ronnie Dunn and heartfelt story.
okay we'll add it to the list, thank you :)
Whew now I’ve got to watch this…I had forgotten all about this song. Heartbreak really can be deadly.
yup 100% agree !
Loving your channel so far. Beautiful couple, and you seem to really be getting why country music is different, because it speaks to love, loss, and real life. Love from Arkansas...keep up the good work!
thank you so much
The return of love is the most powerful and I agree they both sing like Angels. I love you two.... She almost got on you for a min. bro! lol. Yall are great keep it up. AND ..Thank you for the Paisley rabbit hole...its a good way to do it VS dropping one and then waiting till 2 months later...it works as a change-up from others as well.
thank you so much
@@lysiandartie5458 Thx Yall
The songs about forgiveness. Apparently you guys don't have forgiveness in your heart. Beautiful love song
You’re Gonna Miss This, Dont Blink, and Remember When, are all amazing songs that will make u look at things a lil differently
Alison's voice is very Angelic~
happened to a lot of people I knew on deployment and that was just knowing, imagine those in hiding lmao its sad but its reality.
yea it really sucks, i feel for people that are put in that situation. i cant even imagine the pain :/
Glad these two never made a mistake!
Funny you should say that about hervoice being Angelic! That has been used to describe her voice mamy many times, i cluding myself!
thats awesome, and it was the first thing that popped into my head !
I'm sorry but there are a lot of people that will agree with this man Alison Krauss sings like an angel brought to earth
"Who cares about this chick"is the most realistic reaction to the second verse i have heard
haha thanks ! Hope you have a great week Jordan :)
Not gonna lie adding people comments at the end of the video is a good addition to your reaction video
we thought we'd add it to the end so if people want to watch they can, and if not then it wont interfere with the video. but thank you for the feedback !! we'll keep doing it
@@lysiandartie5458 by the way I don't know if you heard or listen to Check Yes or No by "King of Country" George Strait it might be a good one to check it out. I know y'all are swamped with requests. But I am putting it out there
@@jacobd.carlos588 thank you we appreciate it
"When I get were Im going" Brad Paisley with Dolly Parton might be his best video .
we're taking a small break from Brad, but we'll come back to him soon and check out that song !
Children see angels!
Sometimes the people we love come up short, sometimes we come up short to the people we love.
Thank you for the reaction I expected from each of you. *Hugz* Artie.
Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who doesn’t hate the female lead in this song.
Nope. I feel her pain. Life is unforgiving sometimes.
You’re not alone. I’ve never viewed it that way either. People make mistakes. This situation is so complex, especially in military families.
i think the initial reaction is anger but i definitely agree that after thinking about it for a little there is a lot of nuance to the situation
@@lysiandartie5458 very true. I compare it to Stay by Sugarland because they both make you think twice about a common situation where people often rush to judgement
@@Carlyn88413 we've never hear "Stay" so we'll check it out. It sounds interesting
Keep diving through Allison Krauss. If you’ve seen O Brother, Where Art Though, she was one of the vocalists in the “siren” scene. From the first time I heard her in the early 90’s, I always said she was like a siren from Greek mythology.
We love it what you wanna react to we will watch it. Thank you for the video
Until Beyonce recently passed her, Alison Krauss had the most Grammy awards of any female artist, 26 I believe.
wow thats amazing, we had no idea. thanks for the info !
Alison Krauss HAS THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL. You’re not the first reactor to say that.
Glad you did this one, he does have some really good deeper songs as you now know. Really enjoy your channel.
thank you so much
It's not about hating the girl, it's about the pain of betrayal.
Seen this performed live and man, truly amazing!
When you love a woman with every fiber of your being, you see no other, need no other, want no other and still yet she does this. It's been almost 14 years now and I still love her as much as I ever did. But I would never sing that lullaby.
" the dead have no need of the living....."
sorry for what happened to you, but you're right you just gotta keep on living
Just a reminder that one stupid mistake can destroy a life, and that Cheating ruins all parties involved. (Speaking of cheating, you should react to Sugarland's "Stay")
100% agreed, and okay we'll get to it as soon as we can :)
Alison Krauss is one of the greats
You should familiarize yourself with Alison Krauss Union Station. They're the finest Bluegrass(NewGrass?) band around for the past 30 years. I saw them at a Missouri concert in 2004, and would go again in a heartbeat. Find Jerry Douglas playing "Tribute to Peador O'Donnell". I can't stop listening to it. It's a different tune played on a very nice sounding resonator slide guitar(dobro).
sounds cool, we'll get to it as soon as we can ! thank you for the suggestion :)
Angelic volce. Greetings from Gothenburg Sweden.
Pentatonix Shallow and Perfect
okay copy that
If you guys haven't checked it out already one of my absolute favorite songs is Angles Hands by Rodney Adkins. It's a beautiful sad song and I will always recommend it.
Some lady country singers to check out:
-Sugarland - Stuck Like Glue
-SheDaisy - Lucky For You
-Dixie Chicks - Goodbye Earl
-Reba McEntire - The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia - or- Fancy
-Martina McBride - Independence Day -or- Concrete Angel
Or stay by surgarland
okay we'll add those to the list, thank you :)
Notification squad activated. Y'all are great
thank you Jacob !! :)
If you loved someone, you wouldn’t cheat. It really is that simple. People just water down what love is
Id like to get your take on Bobby Gentry’s Ode to Billy Joe it’s a great story as well as a great song. You’ll have plenty to talk about with this one. Enjoy watching you guys, keep up the good work.
thank you so much for the sweet comment
Yelp, She has a voice of an Angel, react to her songs,,,, Yall need to come to Tennessee and hang out a little bit then yall will get it!!!
we're so down !! Tennessee is awesome !! we'll have to go there some time in the near future !
Mr. Mom by Lonestar is a pretty up beat amusing song.
It's about a guy trying out the stay at home dad life
sounds cool, we'll add it to the list
You want stories then you should check out Rascal Flatts. I'd start with "What hurts the most".
we've never heard of Rascal Flatts, so we'll definitely have to check it out. Thank you for the suggestion Jeremy :) hope you have a great week!
Some ofcthe most profound and painful lyrics ever written.
yup agreed 100%
Please do Thomas Rhett "Marry Me" and "Remember You Young". In that order. It's a great story telling series. You will love it.
okay we'll check it out, thank you !!
The very first line gets me right where I live. And "put the bottle to his head and pulled the trigger" rips my guts out.
I find it very hard to have any sympathy for the woman in the song.
The vocals paired with that line really makes it almost unnerving
You should listen to Kenny Chesney's "There goes my life", "She thinks my tractor's sexy". You should also do Mark Chesnutt's " Going through the big D", "it sure is Monday", and "it's a little too late". If you haven't done so.
okay sounds good, we'll check them out ! thank you
Clay Walker just play fall for that little Lady of yours, she will dig it, brother. I have not met one lady who has not loved that song. Just get her some wine and a great dinner at home, dim the lights and after play that song for her. It is country magic promise.
haha thank you sir ! we'll definitely check him out
Just turn up the saturation to deal with copyright issues. Great reaction!
"She sounds like an angel" "But who cares about the chick?" and I snorted my coffee!

That is Ricky Schroeder from Sliver Spoons a 80s show. But the scenes are from a movie that he played a soldier. Pretty sure
Hey My thoughts exactly... if Angels could sing, they would sound like Alison ...
