This is awesome! Im a right handed fighter that fights from left handed stance. It's probably not too uncommon. I did kickboxing before getting into Judo in uni and left hand forward was too drilled into me to change.
I'm really glad you like the video! And yeah it's hard for adults coming into judo from other sports to change their stances from what feels natural. As long as you can adopt your throws to your style you should be good to go.
Very helpful. Cross grip vs. a pseudo lefty if I can't post...got it. Happened to me at World Masters....he came out lefty...I gripped up...he switched and big hand over the top...like a club. Being mindful of how much territory KSA traveled without response from MEX...."Walking into our Judo."....hearing it is not nearly as powerful as seeing it. Great stuff.
great breakdown! Love it Travis, keep it coming, as a novice player it's great to see these and learn what to look for. That Saudi kid took a couple of long long range Osoto's it looked. I wonder if that was his big shot, with those long legs.
It very well could have been. People that have that kind of length can be dangerous. They might not be that strong but they have a lot of leverage if they know how to use it.
Amazing break down commentary video, I really think this is some of your best work so far. Very insightful and well spoken. Very clean page layout and audio is so much better now on this video. Definitely going to be subscribing to your membership soon.
Wow, thank you for the kind words I really appreciate that! Really makes me what to keep making these videos and improve the quality here on the channel!
Great video Sensei Travis. I am a lefty that just found out I have a torn rotator cuff on my left shoulder. I now have to learn everything on my right hand.
@@TravisStevensgrappling I am a brown belt in judo coaching with my daughter in the kids class. She is a righty. It always annoyed her that I was a lefty. Now I can do most of the throes with my right hand first. Really appreciate your videos they’re really helped me. You’re awesome. Thanks for replying.
Wow totally agree on the points. Food for thought from a yellow belt level and in no order. Scenario practice ; templated competition throws in 4 directions; slow time as well; your grip game should fall from that. Repeat. Thats my formula for me grandsons judo journey. Very good analysis.!!
I have been applying your Circle to the Left when R vs R. It works well but I have been caught when they change to left throw from the Right Grip with throws like Sasae or Drop Kata Garuma to the left. It’s like they know I’m circling and they can’t throw Right, so they set me up to go the other way. I know it’s difficult to analyse without a video, but I would really value your thoughts on this. BTW your videos, tuition etc have been awesome and they have already made a difference to my Judo. I really appreciate your knowledge, wisdom and the effort you’ve made to get these videos out.
If you're getting caught like that it means your circling toward your opponent rather than away "pulling them." It could also mean that our left foot is traveling to far forward putting you into a more square stance. I'll make a video on it today for you.
Hi, Travis great analysis thanks! I have a question though, in the end, you advise to work on the timing for a good entry. Is there a good training to practice it besides randori?
Should light weights only train/drill with people same weight class? I'm 120lbs when I compete but there's no one in my gym that's in my weight class. I always feel like I'm going to throw my back out if my training partner is 130lbs or heavier. Mostly with the load.
I have been living in the Pacific Northwest for 23 years now and you are one of the most iconic Judo player to come from this region along with Marti Malloy your judo is an inspirational to all I really Appreciate all you done for the spot it’s Judo.
Thank you so much travis I'm going to work on improving my Kumi kata and my attack time
and clock awareness ;) great job!
@@noturnleftunstoned72 Also on that, thank you 🙂👍
Anytime, you're doing great just missing some of the basics of fighting matches vs training. Keep it up though!
Yes can't for get about that!
Probably some of the best grappling content on the internet.
Thanks John that means so much to me!
100%
Really enjoy how these are broken down and commented. Great stuff again!
Thanks Cardy! I plan to do some more in the future!

Yeah and it's really hard to see in the moment especially against an opponent who's that long.
Analyzing matches is for me the most valuable content out there. I am learning a great deal. Thsnks again, Jim
Jim happy that you find so much value in this piece of content let's hope that people keep sending in matches so I can keep reviewing them!
what a coach you are mr travis steven , gripp fighting is key .
Thank you! You can't throw without a solid grip!
Those commentaries are Gold, thanks so much
I really enjoyed your break down and commentary. In my 30 year Judo career I haven't ever encountered such excellent analysis.
Travis, this is pure gold! I would like to see a basic tactics video tutorial.
I think thats a great idea and something I never thought of. Going to get that one shot before I forget!

Your very welcome Sasaki!
Good stuff Travis! Would be nice to see the reviews of American athletes international matches and especially your fights! Thank you very much!
I plan on doing some of my own in the future as well.
Great video Sensei Travis. I am a lefty that just found out I have a torn rotator cuff on my left shoulder. I now have to learn everything on my right hand.
That's terrible! Good luck though I wish you the best!

Hi, Travis great analysis thanks!
I have a question though, in the end, you advise to work on the timing for a good entry. Is there a good training to practice it besides randori?
Yes, absolutely! We do a lot of combination drill that help develop our movement and patterns.
Thanks Travis, if you ever need ideas for a new video that would be great one 😁
Awesome I really appreciate the feedback

No with proper technique you should be okay going up only 10 pounds. But with that said if your technique is terrible you could hurt yourself.
Nice Analysis of his video Travis.
Thank you Gerard!

One guy keeps doing sumi, and another week drop seoi. Nothing spectacular.
There always something you can learn most Judo matches are won and lost in movement and gripping not just throws.
