Regarding the title, it's just describing what each person primarily describes themselves as. Ryan as "Christian", and the viewer guest as "Eastern Orthodox".
I'm not saying that everyone who attends an Orthodox church isn't a true Christian, because some may attend and trust in Christ alone and not sacraments or any other works to save them. But if someone trusts in the official orthodox beliefs (of faith+works) and deny that Jesus took the punishment for our sins, they aren't saved.

Could you change the title to something else that doesn't make it seem like it was a debate? I've been getting a lot of whiplash because of this video. I'm not asking you to take it down, even though it would be best... But please consider changing the title to something else, maybe (Orthodox Christian asks about Christian beliefs)? The title just makes it seem like it was a debate, which it simply was not.. I even said it was not during the call. Thank you and God bless 🙏

So if you only believe that just by believing in Christ you're saved-you will indeed be saved, but if you believe in Christ AND that you need good works, sacraments etc as well- you're not going to be saved? Does that really make sense to you?

we have to take our cross and follow christ. and what it means to take our cross? It's just faith? No, Jesus fasted, prayed and lived as perfect man. So, I, sinfull man, Will be asked more. Jesus doesn't needs our faith or works he wants us to be perfect just like him. What makes us perfect men? we have to fully submit ourselves to Jesus christ. So as a man cann't live and do nothing that's why we have to do every work for Jesus Christ.Sorry for my poor english.

The guy is a christian, and the other guy is an Eastern Orthodox. He called himself a christian because he doesn't subscribe to a specific denomination, he just calls himself a 'christian'. But the other guy specifically said he was an Eastern Orthodox. The title isn't saying that the Eastern Orthodox isn't christian, its just signifying the difference of Christian denomination that's all...

    • @czadeen195

@@Merica1776o But does he really have to? You're assuming that he is saying that he is 'more' christian that the orthodox guy, but if you watch the conversation, nothing about what he says implies that the orthodox guy is not christian. I mean you could go even further and ask why he doesn't put christian after Eastern Orthodox, or why he doesn't say bible-believing in front of christian, etc. Since he doesn't specify to a denomination, why would he have to say 'non-denom', because that is inherently a denomination itself right? It creates a separation which is what the Jesus specifically preaches against. He only calls the orthodox guy that because he was the one who called himself it...

@@czadeen195 “Christian” is more of an umbrella term that doesn’t clarify one’s basis of knowledge, their position or their doctrines. So for the sake of clarification and everyone identifying the two opposing views of Christology, yes I would say he should. Non-denom can also mean a variety of things so even that itself isn’t specific enough and depends upon one’s own interpretations even more so. At least the Baptists, Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses have clear doctrines that they stand by, however heterodox they may be.

On the surface, yes. But the definition of following Christ is doing and believing what He says.
Most (not all) Orthodox Christians, like Catholics, are trusting in their good works plus Jesus to save them. Which is the problem as it is unbiblical.
That’s why they need to hear the gospel exactly like in this video.

The book of James makes it abundantly clear that Faith without works cannot save you, the demons even believe and they tremble.
Paul says in Phillippians 2:12 that we must work out our salvation, Yeshu even affirms this in the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats in Matthew 25:31-46.
I'd recommend that you do some research on your boy Martin Luther (The founder of Protestantism), the man wanted to remove Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation from the Bible because the contradicted his view on Salvation by Faith alone, the Saints, and more. He did successfully remove 7 books from the old testament though.

Based on their teachings, they aren't,they will be told away from Me,I never knew and emphasis on never knew you,Jesus didn't say i used to know you but you lost your salvation or whatever,He says i never knew you. They and Catholics end Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses and etc are all the lukewarm churches and Jesus said He will spew out the lukewarm.
Only way to be saved Biblically is by having a change of mind about your ways aka repent and believing or in other words trusting or depending on Jesus Christ and His finished work for your salvation, that your past present and future sins are all gone because of what Jesus did on the cross for you and your faith in it and nothing else,no water baptism,no church attendance,no confessing to priest or idk whether people may believe, that all isn't needed for salvation and praying to Mary is sin btw as well as trusting anything and anyone other than Jesus for salvation. Jesus saves you,Jesus keeps you saved, Jesus sanctifies you,He also will glorify you together with Himself,He gives you Haven and Earth for inheritance,He makes you king and priest and His saint and child and etc,Jesus does it all and our part basically is to just allow Him to by putting our trust in Jesus.
That's Biblical and we are to live solely by the word of God so i don't care who said what if it ain't the Word of God,i won't care to listen.
All these other "churches" will be judged by Jesus soon when Jesus returns for His bride and blood bought people and these people who taught they're saved because of what they did or are doing are left behind, then they will understand they believed the lie all the time and they're in danger. Repent therefore now and believe the gospel and you will be saved. God bless.

Brother, please, speak to your priest.
This man is woefully unequipped to be telling you these things. I understand that his heart is in the right place, but that doesnt mean he knows a lick about the Orthodox faith.
He claims that Paul was only in Thesselonika for 3 days, thats hog wash. It was bare minimum three weeks, and thats pushing it.
You can go visit the very church of which Paul taught, his seat upon which he taught from is still there (Fr Josiah Trenham talks about this, I highly recomend him) and that church is ORTHODOX ENTIRELY, not non denominational protestant.
Getting advice from heterodox content creators is a sure fire way to sew doubts in your walk.
Please, pull your priest aside and ask him these questions, push him on all the hard stuff, they are equipped for this. Im also here if I can help, but this faith alone nonsense wasnt pushed until the 1500's with Martin Luther, same with Sola Scriptura, whom Martin Luther said " Theres as many interpretors of scripture as there are heads". Not to mention this man you spoke to doesnt affirm the holy mysteries; the sacraments of baptism and the eucharist! God forbid one deprive themselves of such incomprehensible tools in our walk.

I was with you until about 30:00. Jesus said "repent and believe." We cannot ignore that repentance is a requirement. If you die in the midst of sin, like a heart attack while you commit adultery for the 2nd/3rd/4th time, then do not assume you will be going to heaven. You may have "repented" and been saved in the past, but was it true/honest? This is why the Word states "faith without works is DEAD." Your actions will reveal to others whether there was a true change of heart. And God knows your heart and mind regardless of what you say/do. There is no fooling Him even if we deceive ourselves.

Repentance is a one time action, my good sir. In the context of salvation and for the purposes of heaven, one repentance, one confession, one salvation.
Forgiveness is once for all, not progressive according to Hebrews 10:10-14. One offering for ALL time. All time = past present & FUTURE 😊.
Now repentance in the Christian is not required but *expected*. I say that because a Christian had a transformation by definition that changes what they want at the core. We struggle with the flesh's desires, but God gave us love incorruptible Ephesians 6:24. We love God.

I was interested in your videos until you started hyperfocusing on picking apart people who don't align with you 100%. Your own stance is belief is all you need. So why, then, would belief in Jesus and also obeying scriptures and the words of Jesus exclude somebody from salvation, as you have basically told them they are not a follower of Jesus? This is a debate centuries old, rooted in calvinism versus arminianism. There are verses that support both beliefs, and I guarantee nobody has all the perfect answers. If you think you do, you are an extremist. But ironically, the ones who say all you need is belief in Jesus are the first ones to cast stones and judge those who don't believe the exact same thing as them when it comes to salvation. But it's actually useless arguing because God is the giver of salvation and He is the Judge, not you. So spend your time more wisely and build unity among the brothers, not division.

    Hello brother!
Ryan, I’m very envious (in a good way) and proud of your ministry. I have a question for you but I have to lead up to it.
I’m a youth group leader, and I have a helper to reach out and get connected by becoming friends with one another so we can solidify the gospel in them and create friendships. I have received input with my humility in which I find out that I appear to be judgemental. I’m told by my helper that some of our youth thinks they cannot open up to me because I will judge them.
I really care about my youth group, and I’m struggling to appear to become less and less strict and judgement (I think I don’t look the part at least) but rather to be open, loving, and increasingly passionate with them as much as you are with other people online. Your voice and attitude and confidence is something I really envy (again, in a good way). How can I be like this? How can I appear more approachable and also not worry about what others think of me which is another issue I sadly struggled with since I was young. I’m 20 now.
Edit: I think the Lord placed it in my heart to watch more of your interactions with other people and to learn from them, as well as to reach out to you for more input.

Somehow that after putting faith in Jesus and continuing in sin still gets you to heaven makes me wonder? Coz I believed genuine repentance bear fruit, sanctification, edification, you hate what is evil and you will love righteousness. Sometimes, mentioning that line to new believers make them think it’s ok to sin as long as you put faith in Jesus. Please clarify on that more? I believe, like me even now and then I sinned unintentionally and intentionally, the Holy Spirit rebukes me and helps me renew my minds and go back to God, repent daily. Of course, I believe that salvation comes through faith alone in Jesus alone, and that always reminds us to love righteousness and whenever we fall short, we go back to Him. It is the attitude, the character that we no longer love the sin but hate it whenever we do.

That even though the thief self-admits to be receiving punishment worthy of his deeds, God forgives him when the thief with humility asks Jesus to simply “remember him”. Are you hanging on a cross right now, having led a life that was very far from what God has taught? Or do you imagine you can live however you want, and then hope that at the last moment of your life, you will “repent”?? God would reject such hypocrisy. No. We have the Bible which tells us all the things we must do. And the apostles were sent out to preach, and baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And the apostles received the Holy Spirit, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”(John 14:26)
The question I pose back to you- did the Holy Spirit cease teaching the subsequent bishops, who are apostles of Christ’s church and guide them throughout the ages to the present day? I am a baptised Roman Catholic from Sri Lanka. The Roman Catholic church is the biggest
Christian denomination in Sri Lanka...although the Anglican (Protestant), Church of South India, Evangelical, Baptist, Reformist denominations also have a sizable presence. My heritage is in fact both Roman Catholic & Anglican Church of England split evenly between the families of my parents. So I grew up going to both Catholic & Protestant churches & Sunday School...and do so to this day with my family.
Having personal experience with both camps, I have no qualms about accepting Catholics & Protestants as Christians...as they all accept Christ as their Lord & Savior (not sacraments) and the only path to salvation. However, the Catholics and similarly the Eastern Orthodox have a huge emphasis on sacraments & traditions and rightly so as they provide the discipline, guidance & framework to practice your faith & trust in Christ. We all cant just stand with only the Bible in our hands and say "I believe Jesus is my Lord & Savior"...and have a fulfilling Christian faith considering the challenges to our faith thrown up everyday. You need a strong sense of connection to the community, to traditions...that you can then pass on to the next generation. Of course for some people the Bible is enough but that is the small minority in my opinion. That is why all these countries with a strong protestant & even catholic influence are losing people from the faith. Even within the Protestant community, there are literally 30,000+ denominations showing a great diversity in interpretations & they all have created their unique style and practice of Christianity, which is in itself a tradition. However, this has led to much confusion.
The Orthodox church to its credit has one of the best retention rates of believers with a strong emphasis on disciple and tradition. This is much needed in my opinion. Even listening to Orthodox priests, they always emphasize that Jesus is the Lord & Savior. I've yet to hear one say "Sacraments/Traditions are our Lord & Savior".

Looking at the churchfathers, the emphasis on works as always been huge.
Im still practicing the best way to explain it.
Salvation of the elect is past present and future. We have been saved, and we will be saved.
    There is something different.
The condition is to have the living faith that was given by grace. A free gift independant of our own free will.
But our perseverance in the faith is a free choice.
The Bible talks about the "fallen away from faith", the "shipwreck of faith" and the "dead faith".
There is no merit through works, as it not about gaining. Its about not to lose what was given.

Abraham showed him his faith in the sacrifice and well if Isaac was in fact faithful and knew what was going on then it would be him also showing faith that this is what the Lord commanded. Either way Abraham did show it if Isaac did not.

I’m not following you on your idea that a gift can’t have conditions. You can buy your kids a dog as a gift with the conditions that they have to feed it and take it for walks. You can buy them a car with the conditions that they have to take care of it and pay for the upkeep. You can require them to pay for the insurance and follow the laws of the road. If I make them change the oil and pay for the upkeep of it, it doesn’t change the fact that I bought them a really nice gift and expect them to use it appropriately. If I catch them drinking and driving or street racing in it, I’m more than justified to discipline them or take it away from them. None of those things negates the fact that I gave them a gift.

My entire point is that just because we are saved by grace, that doesn’t mean we’re free to sin all we want. There are conditions to our salvation and one of those conditions is sanctification. True faith will produce fruit. The branches that don’t bear fruit get cut off. Perhaps I should quote Jesus.
      John 15:1-6
1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.

Love this, we need more Christian’s covering the Eastern Orthodox religion. They are very similar to the Catholic Church but they branch out in very strange ways. The Eastern Orthodox Church considers the decisions of the first seven Ecumenical Councils (from Nicaea I in 325 to Nicaea II in 787) to be infallible. Nicaea II in 787 included specific anathemas concerning those who do not venerate icons. In the New Testament, "anathema" is derived from a Greek word that means something dedicated or devoted, but it often carries a negative connotation, implying something devoted to destruction. For example, in Galatians 1:8-9, the Apostle Paul uses the term to denote a severe curse: "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse (anathema)!"
Anathema 3: "If anyone does not salute such representations as standing for the Lord and his saints, let him be anathema. If anyone does not kiss such venerable images, let him be anathema."

    • @alexd7587

I can try. I believe that faith needs "manifestation" for maturity. It might include words or actions. And salvation is not the only fruit of faith (correct me if I'm wrong), it also considers growing in hope and love, healing, etc. Each act of faith might require its own, separate action (manifestation). So, is there one particular we need in case of salvation? I believe yes. It's defined in Romans 10.9-10 - "9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." The main issue with this is the order. You are not saved by good works and don't need to act a certain way to keep your salvation. If you are in Christ, works of faith will appear automatically. It's a fruit. How does a tree produce its fruits? Any efforts? No, it's just it's nature. BUT if you are not in Christ - there will be no fruits and finally God will cut you off. So, good works are important, but not as a condition for your salvation but as an indicator. And if you are failing there, you don't start doing good works! You start to examine your heart, repent and seek God's will

If our "good" works is to show others our faith and NOT God, then why did God tell Abraham after he stopped him from sacrificing his son, 'Now I know'? @Need God... I agree with almost everything you've said. The one thing I question is 29:39 there not needing to be repentance (different than confession) to be saved. Because repentance is granted to us by God - it's not man's work (2 Tim 2:24-26) - and Jesus said, " “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15 It's not something we drum up, but something that God gives us (just like faith).
So, although asking for forgiveness doesn't save us, repentance is a new state of mind wrought by salvation that causes us to want to turn from our sins and is part of the transformation during salvation from being brought from death to life, and turned from a heart of stone to flesh.

When Jesus died on the cross he did not say it's finished...now go off and sin and live like the devil. Osas-hyper grace is a new invention in Protestantism that promotes sin. Jesus says not everyone who says Lord..Lord will enter into the kingdom.

@@lilfridge69 English is not my first language but I will try to explain. By sinning boldly I meant sinning recklessly with the belief your sin is going to be forgiven regardless. Also I don't believe salvation is given for ever. To be truly saved you have to remain in the faith constantly. Also works are not something that can save us yet faith without works is fruitless, so it's not true faith. Only true faith can save us. Paste this into biblestudy or read in your bible. Cheers brother. Colossians 1:23; titus 1:15-16; mt 7:18; gal 5:13-25; jud 1:4; romans 6:1-2; romans 6:15-16; 1 john 1:3-6; john 8:34-35

So when you were mentioning about worshiping God, there’s two types of worship. There’s kind of worship that’s temple worship that only belongs to God and that Jesus is currently doing in heaven, which he is the high priest that Hebrews speaks about.
