Dear Rahel-Thank you very much again for your UA-cam video and reflections regarding the two scholars. I truly appreciate the insights, points, and tributes to these exemplary academics.
I can attest to the contributions of Professor Yvonne Treis , who works extensively with Africans (Focus in Ethiopia), showing ease, commitment, and care in her connection with the local community. She collaborates closely with research assistants in Ethiopia, who are well-trained under her guidance. As her assistant, I know she approaches the research assistants and the community with care, respect, love and highest possible professionalism! Professor Yvonne is not only deeply connected to her research topics but also to the entire community, earning the affectionate title "Faranjichchúta Kambaatichchuta," meaning "White or Western Kambaata." Indeed, her collaborations are deeply rooted in community engagement, dedication, and respect for the local relationships. I agree! This is how research should be conducted.
Thank you for doing this, Rahel. I am proud of you.

I'm so glad I met Yvonne and through her you and Teshome. There is so much I can learn from her but also from you, juggling your PhD, being a research assistant and having a family! I could never do that 😅.
So many linguists don't leave their offices to meet the speakers and it's such a pity because languages are alive and would not exist without a community.
(Thank you for leaving comments, you help me so much!)

Hi Rahel - it's great to get your ongoing reflections on the work we're doing!
I don't know if he'd identify himself as a fieldworker, but I draw a lot of inspiration from the work of Miami linguist Wesley Leonard. Here's a link to a video I find myself returning to again and again:

Thank you for your hard work! And please keep doing it because we need more linguists like you!
I'll definitely check Wesley Leonard out 😊 thank you for the suggestion
