Setting Up Turbo Suction Aquarium Filter (Fish Waste Filter)

- A turbo suction aquarium filter also known as a fish waste filter is an enormous addition to my fish tank. This aquarium filter only requires an air pump to operate and provide both mechanical and biological filtration. In this video, you will see that i have tested aquarium filter in my spare tank with only plants and than moved it to my tank with goldfish.
Setting up aquarium turbo filter is very easy. Aquarium is bare bottom and filter is attached to the bottom of the tank using suction cups. One end of the air tube is connected to air pump and the other end is connected to the fish waste filter. I have noticed that the turbo fish waste filter works well if there is disturbance in the water. This disturbance could be from the main filter or fish its self when they swim can stir up their waste sitting at the bottom. Once fish waste is stirred up, turbo suction mechanism of the filter will contain it in the small compartment.
To use the filter efficiently, i would suggest cleaning it weekly if bio load of the fish is heaps like in my aquarium. Goldfish are messy fish and create too much fish waste. I have noticed that fish waste start to clogged up the filter after 10 days and efficiency was reduced by 75%. I didn't clean the filter for over 2 weeks as i was experimenting with its efficiency.
Its a great addition to a tank if you are experiencing fish waste and excess food sitting at the bottom of the tank or your existing filter is not capable of cleaning the bottom. It also provides aeration to the tank and helps in water circulation and gasses exchange.
Turbo Suction Filter:
The unique design of this fish waste filter causes a cyclone effect inside the filter drawing waste from where it gathers most (the bottom of the aquarium). This air driven turbo suction filters will gather fish excrement and catch it in the base of the filter where it is trapped until cleaning. The water then returns to the aquarium after passing through the filters internal biological cartridge (containing 100's of mini quartz beads which house billions of beneficial bacteria).

Hey bud, I was surprised to see the result after a day. Works really well as it catches all the fish poo and less is passed through my filter pads.
Just seen this type of filtration online recently and came across ur video to see how it works, i am sold lol. I love my gold fish type and they are messy, this looks like it would help tremendously in the poop department lol.
Worked really well for me in a barebottom tank. There should be some sort of water movement to drive fish poop close to the filter to make it work
@@Fishaholic ya i learned after so many years that bare bottom is so much better. I'm restarting my tank cuz a couple years back something attacked my tank and destroyed all my fish including an 11 inch butterfly koi and my old pot bellied veil tail (i suspected ryukin but his back wasn't so arched so not sure he was labeled as fancy) that exceeded the size of my hand and have been discouraged ever since to restart but I'm going for it now and wanted a new product that would help instead of vacuuming every few days.

Good for only bare bottom tanks
Hi friend, I have only tested it on barebottom tank. Considering it has suction cups, I would say it will work only in a barebottom tank. How ever, with some modifications, it can work in a tank with substrate.

Nice video. I've seen these and was wondering how effective they would be. Any thoughts on if it would work with a medium/course gravel substrate if you modified it by removing the suction caps and putting some short legs on it?
Hi Peter, it will definitely work with gravel if the legs are extended so the gravel doesn't block the entrance. Or if the suction cups are attached to some rocks that sit above the gravel.
Worth a try, and I found it more efficient for my tank if I clean it weekly, just because of the bio load of my goldfish. This is something you can experiment with your fish.

would this work for larger poops from fish like bichir? I always have so much poop and never know how to get rid of it all
I have sand on the bottom of my tank too, would that be a problem?
I would suggest adding and internal powerhead filter with some sponges only. It should be able to keep up with lot of poop. This filter won't function well with sand substrate
I tried it, it doesn't work and it doesn't suck the fish poops no matter how powerful the air-pump is. Sorry but I need to be honest.
Appreciate your feedback mate. It worked for me because of water movement through my aquarium top filter. Water movement brought fish poop close to the filter which was sucked in by the filter.

Will this work efficiently in a 10 gallon tank with gravel in it I have glo tetras a otocinclus and 3 bottom feeders
It should work fine in a tank up to 30 Gallon. However, I haven't tried this in a tank with substrate.
No don't. It sucks in small fishes I have it and it's bad. Your tank also water floe so that it is effective. This product is not recommended in my opinion

what happens if you have sand? WIll it all just get sucked up?
I believe this will work well with barebottom tank only unless modified or raised about gravel or sand. I haven't tested it in aquarium with substrate but won't be too hard to raise it. Appreciate your comment mate
After using it when should I remove the poop inside? After 1 week or once a month.
It depends how much poop your fish makes. If you have goldies like me then I would suggest every week. If you have small fish then may be once a fortnight.

I have only used it in a barebottom tank. Will require some modifications to use in gravel or sand as suction cups won't be able to hold the filter in place.

I bought the same turbo suction like yours, but rigged it to a 2.5W pump, cant seem to be sucking anything.
Must have been the power of the pump mate. I use aquaone precision 9500 air pump.
Is there any water movement in the tank? Like from another filter or wave maker. As this will work well if there is another source of water movement in your aquarium

Does it perform good in a 75 g tank ?
Only recommended for 120L, but did okay in my 65 Gallon tank, provided there is another source of movement in water to bring debris close to the filter. Might not be so useful in 75 gallon tank.
I would assume u could use 2 of them, 1 on each side of the tank.

Mechanism is similar to a sponge filter. Only difference is that all the waste is trapped inside the filter as opposed to caught in the sponges. Cyclone effected speeds ups the suction of the filter.
This filter needs another source of water flow in the tank to bring waste close to the filter if you are planning to use it in a 3feet plus tank.
i recently bought poop suction but it was a different model, it was cheap, but not as what it said to be, fully disappointed
