I would seriously love to see Romania one day! I spent a few months in India and can say that is an accurate description of an Indian train experience 😅😂😂

We’d highly recommend, massively underrated in Europe! Luckily a little less chaotic than India for sure 😂 where are you now??

@@MattLaurie I’m actually so jealous!! Haha I haven’t made my way over to that part of the world yet, but i I think you sold me!
I’m currently in Thailand, I’ve caught up on a lot of my editing (I love doing that here) but I’m tossing up between Japan/Korea etc next or back to Indonesia… I’m really not sure yet! I’ll have to put Romania on the list for maybe next year! If you have any tips for over that part of the world let me know 😁😁😁

I honestly didn't have a great experience in Romania, I know my experience won't be a representation of the entire Romania. I really enjoyed my time in Hungary though. And thanks for the video.

Nice to meet you, Matt and Laurie, commenting from Japan. There was a similar sleeper train with similar rooms in Japan 10 years ago, but it has largely been discontinued in Japan and now only one is running. It is a sleeper train called Sunrise Seto/Izumo. If you ever come to Japan, please take a ride.

Love Romania, we've been there twice, it's a beautiful and diverse country, glad you're getting out to explore beyond Bucharest. Was interested to see how the train journey was as we never took one while there but heard they could be pretty dire! Looked pretty decent though! Looking forward to your next Romania vlog!😊

@@MattLaurie No i have been on both the Dacia and the Ister from Vienna and Budapest respectively, and this time I also did a domestic night train Sighisoara (lovely Transylvannian city) to Oradea (also lovely close to Hungarian border) and though a bit dated, they were comfortable and perfectly fine.

Some of the infrastructure and rolling stock looks a bit dire but also interesting as there's 2nd hand rolling stock from different parts of Europe eg ex DB German Railways Regio trains, and also SNCF French rolling stock too. Also there's a lot of big tracks works going on currently (also source of quite a few track restrictions and delays) to upgrade the dilapidated tracks so things should improve as far as velocity and reliability of service in coming years.

The toilet sound is actually fairly standard as it is vacuum powered and basically sucks the ‘contents’ into a tank.

You both remind me of travel with my partner except that we are not gutsy enough to film. Keep it up.

Mmmm...So you took The Ister night train. Did you look for a restaurant car on it? When I took it some years ago, there used to be a CFR Restaurant car attached after the train entered Romania. In September last year I also took the Dacia CFR night train which is an even longer trip as it starts from Vienna and still goes through Budapest but a couple of hours later, after the Ister has departed, and on the Dacia, there was definitely a CFR Restaurant car attached when I woke up the next morning. Also the guard on the Dacia had a card payment machine so I was able to pay by card so a bit surprising your guard didn't have one. Your delay was only 40mins LOL. That's pretty good going by Ister/Dacia standards! Due to big track works in Southern Hungary my Dacia train was re-routed + other delays in Romania added up to about 4 hours running late (not that I minded as I enjoyed just chilling out on the train)

LOL yes about being early. I almost missed this train in Budapest because I was enjoying the Szechenyi Baths too much. Thank goodness for the great tram and metro network in Budapest that helped get me back to Keleti Station with 5 mins to spare! Boy was I sweating!

Why did you think it would be more hassle at the Romanian border crossing? You know Romania is also in the EU?
