Just started building a home gym back in March and this channel put me onto the NordicTrack dumbbells. They were the first thing I bought and it quickly lead to me buying everything else. People come over to work out in our garage gym now and they all mention how much they like the dumbbells! Thanks for all your hard work Coop.
I almost got the Nordic ones as a first adjustable pair, but I kept seeing reviews with the same point of failure (at the locking point of the primary adjustment) with a very short warranty not covering it and no replacement part options without paying to ship back to them. Then I saw your recent Snode review and decided to go with their sub-brand LOYO 50. Basically, it's a slightly less durable version of AD50 with 9lb increments, but very affordable and still droppable at most angles. They shipped quick in incredibly durable packaging.. The weight steps are large, but so far so good! Thanks for the reviews!
The bowflex dumbbells are a safety hazard. I have a set of these adjustable Bowflex 41 kg dumbbells. During recent chest press workout, the heaviest disk suddenly came flying down towards my face which I dodged by some miraculous neck reflex. Upon inspection - the disk is held up by tiny, plastic coated ledge, which sheared off completely and released the disk from the handle! Have contacted Bowflex and attempted to force an inspection and reconsider their design but they were completely uninterested and only offered me a discount for my next dumbell (what a sick a joke).
You should erase the part of this comment where you said you dodged it and then hit yourself in the face with one and sue for a cool mill if they want to play scandalous games then play back👍🏻🤘🏻💪🏻
I used to stop by a big fitness store often and they had Bowflex and Powerblock dumbbells on the show floor, as display models and at least one of the Bowflex bells were always broken but never the Powerblock ones. I went on craigslist and bought a pair of the old square 90# ones and never had a problem with them. I prefer black painted steel because I know how to touch that up as opposed to urethane costing or plastic. If a weld broke, and it never has!, I could fix that too unlike plastic. I think Bowflex dumbbells became popular by being out pretty early and looking more like traditional dumbbell as compared to Power blocks. Some people can't get over the block thing even though they work for almost all dumbbell exercises just fine. I worry a little about the longevity of some of the newer dumbbell systems...even some metal ones have plastic inside. I never drop bells, never have but if I did I'd trust Powerblocks more than the others I've seen. Powerblocks just seem like the safe choice to me. Of course Coop and his detailed reviews may convince you some of the new ones are good too. I've only handled Powerblocks and Bowflex and of course solid and plate bells...
It’s a u shape so if you have the upside facing you on bench press even if it fails it won’t fall on your face. Also if you rack them into the housing incorrectly all the time eventually over time it will deteriorate the plastic faster. Takes more maintenance but it’ll last you if you take care of them
@@swimming8158 i encourage you to try what you propose and you will quickly find it's "impossible" to do in practice. The very fact that it's a u shape means that the center of gravity is below the handle and so the dumbbell will always rotate towards the slit facing upwards. That is unless you've got stronger wrists than pecs.
Coop, I'm interested to hear your opinion on the adjustables that Walmart sells. FitRX SmartBell. They're fast adjust on the handle, up to 52.5lbs. Best of all, they're $99 each. I've had them since November and haven't had any issues or complaints about them yet. For $200 a pair, I have yet to see a better value.
Yea it would be great if we took a break from adjustable dumbbell videos and maybe review something different. How about the Pivot Murphy bed squat rack? Would be good to review for people limited on space/live in an apartment and still want a home gym.

This will greatly depend on a person's strength, lifting style, space, and budget, but for me the ultimate solution was to do a set of 5-50 lb fixed (REP rubber hex) dumbbells plus a set of Fringe Sport loadable dumbbells. It has been absolutely perfect for my situation.
Ah more dumbbells…. I still enjoy the videos but you can tell a manufacturer needs to drop a new item because we are regurgitating stuff at this point 😂
@@outtrigger i think he should interview KaizenDIY and ask him for the most elaborate designs on different homemade pieces of weight equipment and maybe some back story on how he got started. Or interview some of the smaller manufacturers and tell their stories. Companies like Buffalo bully, mutant metals, vendetta strength and athletics, etc. …. Oh and to GGR team and Coop I say “you’re welcome” for the idea. Maybe y’all could review the Vulcan bike that is smaller than the Rogue echo bike but has more blades, plus it offers 2 handles? That would be thanks enough ;-P
Love my MX85, they work great and are quick changing and the 4lbs single side increments are very manageable. $750 shipped with a stand was a great decision.
I've had the core home fitness dumbbells for a year and a half and I think they're great. I bought a pair of Nuobells at one point and ended up selling them since I didn't see a big difference between the two in everyday use. The only issue I have with them is that they feel a little shaky when doing goblet squats. Otherwise, they work as advertised and have lasted through groups of guys working out with them for all sorts of exercises.
Lovin my Core Fitness dumbbells. On sale this week at $339. Got the ones with the rubber handles, so now the 14 yo snowflake can do her light stuff, and I can go a little heavier. Knurled rock, but aren't available right now. How about a review on them Mister Cooooop?
Really shouldn't recommend the Kensui not sure what they're paying but they break and put people at risk go with the spinlocks for the same money love the channel coop
None of these are really great "budget" options. Why didn't you mention something like the Trexo for 165.99 for a 85 lbs dial system, pretty much unbeatable...
I've had the Powerblocks 2 separate times (When they first came out, I moved, and now again for the past 5 years) and the only issue at all would be the single dumbbell moves like front goblet squats and over the head tricep work like skullcrushers. The best real dumbbell feel that can get heavy are the Ironmasters; they are the semi-screw in and expensive. Those Nordic ones are pretty cool, but expandability is important. I'm a small guy and can exceed those weights doing presses and DB pulls. But I guess this supplements a rack too.
Got the Nordic Tracks from a previous review you guys had on them. Months into using them and I’m super happy with the decision. Thnx for the good information and recommendation.
I own a pair of the Kensui Adjustabells, and they are excellent. I also own hex dumbbells from 5 pounds to 100 pounds in 5 pound increments in my garage gym, but I still wanted a pair of Kensui Adjustabells for my basement gym for the cold winter days where I rather work out in my much warmer basement.
4th to comment, oh yeah! Thanks GGR! Choose power blocks due to his reviews and my own research. No complaints! Thanks Coop! Man knows his stuff and thanks to his team also!
I have the Powerblock elite 90’s and love them. But your one point about the Nordic track having increments that occasionally jump 5lbs instead of 2.5lbs is the same with the Powerblocks. That’s always been a complaint of mine. It’s 25lbs-30lbs no 32.5 option and does that all the way up 35-40 45-50 etc… my Issue is they advertise it as consistent 2.5lb increases which it is not. Yet I seldom hear anyone bring this up.
I have fixed hex dumbbells up to 50lbs and they are the best, but I need more now and they are expensive, and, I'm out of room. The adjustable's are a good deal considering what you get but still expensive. I just ordered the Kensui AdjustaBells from the link, I think they will do what I need and a set with the extensions and spacers were only $84 shipped!
You never reviewed ativafit. Under 450, up to 72 pounds, and metal construction. They aren’t nuobells or power blocks, but they definitely beat bow flex. In fact, a 66 pound variant is currently only 340 bucks. Also, mx selects are 300 off, so they are priced very well right now.
Was thinking the same thing. I bought my set last year on a sale that included an adjustable bench and DB stand for $580. The only issue I have is the rubber grip over having knurling. The grip on one has some looseness to it, though it doesn't current affect me using them.
@@flyingbadger1759 I bought mine back during the pandemic when they were the only thing available but I was very happy with the purchase. I would have coughed up the then 900 bucks for nuobell 80s if they were in stock but settled on ativafit 72 for 450. They are the only heavy dumbbells in this price bracket, use metal components, and have a decent mechanism for changing weights. I don't like the skeleton style handle and the knob on the end, but those are the trade offs. While I just bought power block exp 90s, the ativafit are sticking around with my hyperbell as a 550 dollar 150 pound adjustable barbell. If you want more than 55 on a budget, it's a strong choice.
It’s all preference. I got the Powerblocks Exp 90s, Core 50s & Bowflex 552. All have pros and cons. Each great for certain workouts. That’s why I decided to keep them all. Pretty happy knowing I can use the pin selectors, dials & twist locks for speed. No matter what choice you decide on, know that each aren’t perfect. My rank is Powerblocks first, cores two & the legendary bowflex three
I bought the powerblock elite exp full set. 10 to 90lbs with stand used on OfferUp for $400. It was bought new and rarely used for a year before me. I'll never go back to anything else at that price point. Took a while to get used to the cage but a year later for me, it doesn't feel weird and is super comfortable
@@meisdetermined I've been eyeballing those! Just need to convince my wife it's okay to spend $200 on new handles haha. I just bought the m1 tank a month ago
@@dmiller4088 they are worth it in my opinion. I’m not gonna get paid a dime to say so either. Feels like a bunch of little teeth but they don’t go deep. Of course if you want a thicker handle like 32mm then JDGYM EQUIPPED is the way to go. And 35mm is supposed to be an option with average joe either currently or possibly in the future. Would advise against the 40mm because of the cage.
George can you please help me😭 im 16 yrs I need an adjustable dumbbells but i cant afford it, plus i live in south africa so its abit pricy and im broke im afraid to ask my mom
Are these prices for a pair or just one dumbbell? Because I’m a 14 year old trying to get into weight lifting and wanna do so at home and don’t have too much money on me
Thanks Coop, I picked up the Nordic DBs on your last recommendation and really like them. They are in addition to the full Ironmasters I already had. The Nordics change quickly and are good for having as an alternative to the Ironmasters, interleaving sets, etc. The only minor grip I have with the Nordics is that it's difficult to tell which lever direction is for 2.5 vs 5# until you pick them up. Other than that they have been great. Fwiw I have been interested in the Powerblocks for a while but kept getting put off at the price, availability, model confusion, and cost of the upgrades. Maybe someday but for now the Ironmasters & Nordics cover what I need.
Just want to add to the issues with the Bowflex dumbbells: my grips split in half. It's the reason why I'm watching this video actually lol. I've used them a LOT and treated them fairly gingerly (no dropping them at all), so be prepared for that to eventually happen. Highly recommend getting something better.
I’d say best adjustable for cheap is powerblocks used. Although after owning them over 5 years I would say if you have the money the quick changing systems like peppin is what I would get.
I own the mock nuobell. And can tell you it fast change weight for drop set and super set. High durable .and have flat end. Feel happy every time use them.
@@__-im2se I live in Thailand . And buy Chinese dumbells BX. Transfer price is cheap. It look like Nuobell version 1.0 It increase weight by 1kg and 2kg. It have weight disc 1kg *2 and 2kg*14 in manual they tell can increase 2 ,4,8,12,16 …,32 kg. And I found can swap the 1kg disc to make 6 ,10,14,18. ….. so the increase of this DB is 2kg. …..I try to make odd number by inbalance disc . And found it not comfort so I choose balance over inbalance method. Use the the platemate magnetic donut is the best. The price around 200$. For two 32kg DB.
buy a pair of cap dumbell handles for $15, a 1 in micro plate set of 4x 2.5lbs and 4x 1.25lbs for $40, and a set of main plates 4x 10lbs for $60. You now have a pair of dumbells that can be adjusted up to 30 pounds by 2.5lb increments. This is a total of $115. Quick-select dumbells of the same price AND the 2.5lb increment only go up to like 15 pounds. Think of it, if you're jumping from 25 lbs you use for curls and going down to 15 lbs for your rear delt flys, the time you take to adjust it is also letting you recover for the next movement. You don't require high speed adjustability. "BuT wHaT aBoUt DrOp SeTs??" Do myoreps instead, pick a weight that lets you initially do 12-15 reps with really slow eccentrics. You'll live.
All of these, except for the plastic grip bars are very expensive in Canada. I wish there's a Garage Gym Canada version because we just have so few economical options. Big stores like Fitness Depot do have some cheaper options but they are also trying to ripping people off by not offering 0 warranty and with a lot of sketchy salespeople.
I’d say best adjustable for cheap is powerblocks used. Although after owning them over 5 years I would say if you have the money the quick changing systems like peppin is what I would get.
Instead of making all these adjustable dumbbell, these fitness company needs to think of a way to make adjustable Olympic plates instead something that goes from 2.5-45. That'll definitely be a game changer and save so much room for sure
Anyone looking for < $100 adjustable dumbbells probably isn't going to have any olypmic plates so the Adjustabells are going to be a lot more expensive. As per the weight, I've taken spin locks up to 70lbs. They still suck to use but they can hold a fair bit of weight.
I've had the Bowflex Selecttech dumbbells for probably close to 20 years. While I haven't abused them (never dropped) the plastic has never broken or failed. The only problem that I have is there isn't enough weight for some exercises. I would recommend them.
Hi! I am 5”2 and petite. I really want a pair of adjustable dumbbells but have found the ones like bowflex too big for me. Can you recommend a small version? Thanks!
Curious your thoughts on the budget roburflex adjustable dumbbells. Seem most comparable to the core home fitness ones but would love to hear your review 👌
I got powerblocks Sports Exp + the 2 expansion sets for 500€ new and shipped to my door during black friday (Base pair for 299€ and each expansion set for 99€ each)
Has anyone else ordered the Kensui Adjustabells?? I ordered mine on April 4th and I still have not gotten them/ recieved any shipping information on them.
I haven’t tried the norditrack ones but I would say powerblocks is more durable than that but it seems the norditrack ones has more of a real dumbbell like feel from the looks of it?
Here’s a video idea: You plus a few other of your folks review liquid gym chalks and decide which applies the best and grips the best. Bar is cleaned and perhaps done over several days. Maybe with dead hangs or something? It might be very subjective but in my experience some are too thin, or come off too fast. You can even compare against tar and regular chalk

Would advise against the 40mm because of the cage.
@@meisdetermined ha I believe you my friend. I appreciate it and I'll definitely have it bookmarked to get soon!
Stop changing the angle.
I'm getting vertigo
Went with MX Select dumbbells for the reasons you stated. They should last a lifetime and if they break you can buy the parts to fix them!
Price for the Nordic DB's are 399 on their website now. 4 months after this video released.
George can you please help me😭 im 16 yrs
I need an adjustable dumbbells but i cant afford it, plus i live in south africa so its abit pricy and im broke im afraid to ask my mom
I just wish there was a budget-quality option for 80lbs!
Are these prices for a pair or just one dumbbell? Because I’m a 14 year old trying to get into weight lifting and wanna do so at home and don’t have too much money on me
Powerblocks for about 15years now and as good as when I first got them. These weights are tanks and extremely fast to switch weight
For a "home gym", $450 is not a budget
Cut that in half, that's budget.
Do you have any inside Coop scoop on when Core Home Fitness will come out with a heavier set?
when are you going to review any type of leverage system, such as powertec.
You had me at CHEAP!
Cheap in 2023 is expensive compared to cheap prior to Covid.
Coop, I got the Nordictrack adjustable dumbells after seeing your review and they are awesome! Thanks!
i just bought a 200 lb set of spin locks from amazon 😀
nice to see some real budget options.
The longer rod is the 5lbs side and the shorter one is 2.5lbs 👍
People have wrote “5” and “2.5” where the rods are to quickly tell the difference
imexyl what?
Just want to add to the issues with the Bowflex dumbbells: my grips split in half. It's the reason why I'm watching this video actually lol. I've used them a LOT and treated them fairly gingerly (no dropping them at all), so be prepared for that to eventually happen. Highly recommend getting something better.
Also their warranty is trash
I’d say best adjustable for cheap is powerblocks used. Although after owning them over 5 years I would say if you have the money the quick changing systems like peppin is what I would get.
They have changed the nordictrack select-a-weights they are now 399.00
I own the mock nuobell. And can tell you it fast change weight for drop set and super set. High durable .and have flat end. Feel happy every time use them.
Are the Core Home Fitness ones you mean by mock nuobells? They've been around for 12-13 years, I about the same amount of time as the Nuobells.
I got powerblocks Sports Exp + the 2 expansion sets for 500€ new and shipped to my door during black friday (Base pair for 299€ and each expansion set for 99€ each)
Here in New Zealand, there are very few choices. I'm looking at a set of Chinese Nuobell copies. Might even be from the same factory.
Has anyone else ordered the Kensui Adjustabells?? I ordered mine on April 4th and I still have not gotten them/ recieved any shipping information on them.
Hi Coope I really enjoy all your videos very informative. Have you ever Considered having a raffle for some adjustable dumbbells? Thank you
I have to disagree with the Kensui addition here,. The bars are cheap, but the weights are really expensive.
I haven’t tried the norditrack ones but I would say powerblocks is more durable than that but it seems the norditrack ones has more of a real dumbbell like feel from the looks of it?
I'm pretty sure power block led the charge on all these adjustable dumbbells more than bowflex did because they came around a lot sooner man!
9:38 Is that 350 for two or 350 each cause 700 for two you're way better off spending another 150 for higher end ones that go up to 70 or 80 lbs
The power block sport 50 is not expandable. I knew that when I bought them and I love them, but people need to know.
I just got the Nordic Tracks. I recommend them. My one complaint, the feeling they want to rotate if I relax my grip while benching.
$400, 800, 2k for weight.... lol. some of you are out of your damn mind. I'd pay about 100$ TOPS for any of these.
Here’s a video idea:
You plus a few other of your folks review liquid gym chalks and decide which applies the best and grips the best.
Bar is cleaned and perhaps done over several days. Maybe with dead hangs or something?
It might be very subjective but in my experience some are too thin, or come off too fast.
You can even compare against tar and regular chalk
I was hoping to see the Leadnovo with the weird dumbbell/barbell fusion handlebar.
Please do a review of the Jaxjox digital adjustable dumbbells! Love your videos 🙌
Would be great to have some wall mounted adjustable dumbbells for optimal storage
