I'm making an indie game here, solo developer (www.atarugame.com, facebook.com/atarugame) and these days sculpting rocks for a demo. I watched a lot of rock sculpting tutorials because I'm in a hurry and I needed an effective method. Before watching your tutorial I was using mainly TrimAdaptive and Fracture, and alphas from some scans from rocks I made here in a beach, with the default brush settings in general. Some of your combinations of settings (specially for TrimSmoothBorder) is simply 'magical' to achieve the angular, defined and at the same time fractured character of rocks. How did you come to these settings? Through experimenting? Impressive! Ah, and that short of the Tales of the Crypt is fantastic, in all respects. Saved in my "CG masterpieces" favs folder.
@@AthosSampaio Sorry for such a late reply ! i never got a notification about your comment. Thanks I really appreciate your words. Like you said a lot of experimenting and after doing tons of rocks you're developping your own and fastest way for sculpting thoses. I am glad if this tutorial was helpful and hope the next one will be as good as this one :) Cheers !
@@DamSchool "Thanks I really appreciate your words. Like you said a lot of experimenting and after doing tons of rocks you're developping your own and fastest way for sculpting thoses". Yes. Since I posted, I'm also turning off the Depth Mask and using Preserve Edge on 0.0 when I want to wear down some sharp edges. Thanks for replying.
Parece tan sencillo pero no lo es, hasta para esculpir piedras se necesita una habilidad, quede muy impresionado con tu resultado, muchas gracias por compartir tu conocimiento
Love this! Even though it’s on fast speed, we can easily tell what you’re doing! Never though of importing the initial shape of rock by combining two rectangles in blender just before. Is that what helped you significantly to not make rock “mushy”.
Thanks a lot! The most advantage also by bringing stuf from your 3d app is to really respect the layout of your rocks, so you won't have bad surprise witht bad scale etc. Enjoy!
Hey Thanks! I am glad you liked it! I use google image and try to search for cool rocks formations etc. But the best, I do lot's of hicking and I can spend hours grabbing references. It's better because then you can really see how rocks are lock to the ground etc etc. I mean it's easy if you live close to a forest.. :) But google is fine, try also using google maps, some people do their trails. Cheers!
Everyone has the Trimsmooth brush, it's in your Lightbox -> Top menu Brush -> look for Trim -> the last one trimsmootBorder You can create a shortcut like I did for easy access and play with it. You should also check the others folders, there is tons of magic brush inside hidden
@@mauror.6307 No worries! Use mostly the square alpha and also change your stroke brush like the Dots but change it with the spray. It can create cool effects!
@@DamSchool Well at first I thought there was a skip in the record then I wondered if another video was playing in the background. I did concentrate intently on smashing the mute button, once that distraction was fix the video was quite good.
Best tutorial on rock sculpting I've seen so far. Many thanks for sharing!

Actually using the square alpha is a great idea
Best alpha to get sharp edges indeed!
Nice. Whats that material-style view configuration? It looks really good!
