- Tolu is a 6'11, 245-pound forward who's coming off a great career at Mississippi State where he averaged 15pts|8.1reb per game as a senior. Excited to see him in the NBA summer league as he's been putting in the work to meet the challenge of competing at the highest level.
Highlights are from DaHouse Runs Atlanta. A private invite-only run of pros and high-major players held at Morehouse College downtown Atlanta.

I'm having Christian Wood flash backs. Don't let him get away this time
Exactly what I was thinking.
Hopefully his head is in a better place.
@@313retro_gaming3 I don’t get Christian Wood vibes because he’s not nailing long jumpers. The guy who gives me SERIOUS Christian Wood vibes (despite being only 6’7”) is fellow Pistons summer leaguer Jalen Slawson. His highlights blew me away!
Good signing there
That's what up 🏀 Go Pistons !
Tolu Smith... is a Piston. See it. Feel it. I look at what he had the opportunity to work on in the lab for 5 years. I look at the kind of game he's DEVELOPED.
He showed up big in summer league and I think caught some people by surprise
@@BallersBridge As hopeful as I was he might be ready, Tolu seems to be a late bloomer who will probably Crack rotations in his prime.
Was that Reggie Perry @ :47 in the red shorts going against Tolu?
If so, a Mississippi State moment here...

Good catch - that is Reggie Perry. He’s a beast and was a really good matchup that day
@@BallersBridge Thanks for confirming. Reggie is a beast!
He looks good!! I'm anxious to see him play...I've learnt over the years that sometimes film is misleading so I'm gonna cross my fingers on this one
After a bit more due diligence, it seems Tolu's TURNOVERS could be the deal killer. He apparently has timing issues with his outlet and lead passes in TRANSITION, (second guessing himself) which results in frustrated teammates and lowered team and fan morale from unforced Turnovers.
that’s my cousin
Cuzzo a hooper. Ready for their next game

I know this was some light practice, but he showed some skills that could keep him in the league. Looks like a good signing!
give him a fair contract we need that skill set!!!
Yes I like the KID🏀
Tuff excited to see him get the opportunity
Lot of skills with this guy, but in NONE of the highlights I’ve watched have I seen him even attempt a spot up jumper or a triple. I suspect his ability there is going to determine his NBA future. He has an old-school low post game, which would’ve made him a lottery pick in the 80s or early 90s. But his athletic traits don’t look elite enough to dominate some of the NBA monsters he’ll see, like Joel Embiid. All that said, Smith has obviously given a lot of thought and practice to his post moves and his foot work in general. And he handles the ball really well, suggesting he can Consistently create his own shot. There’s a lot of skill and ability to work with here.
a good coaching staff can shore up what you're talking about, you're not wrong, he has the ability to do what you think he should have, he just needs to work at it, too many players now are content where they are and do whatever it takes to stick around, dude needs to be obsessed with basketball, if he does he could be special
What’s your thoughts after seeing him live at summer league now?
@@BallersBridge he’s been about what I thought he would be. At his best, Tolu has been an Athletic, physical presence. He rebounds well, runs the floor and has lots of good moments defensively. But, the shooting is even more of a problem than I thought in as much as he doesn’t even have a consistent free, throw stroke. You can’t have a playing style that invites so much contact and be so bad at shooting free throws. I know from personal experience, how watching good free throw shooters shoot has helped me fix my own free throw stroke. My mind is boggled that Tolu hasn’t done the same when he plays basketball pretty much every day. As broken as his free-throw stroke is, I question if he can ever fix his stroke from the field. Based on what I’ve seen, I’d say Tolu needs to be in the G league. Jayce Johnson has been the better of the two. I’d be comfortable with Johnson as the Emergency big off the bench for the Pistons.
@@BallersBridge a guy with that size, and what we touched on, getting even 3/4 of the way to his potential would help us a lot, imagine he and klintmon coming off the bench, they compliment each other well skill set wise, I like him a lot
