His last concert tour opened with this song with a longer lead in building up to the song. You can see a great version from his 2019 Concert in Barcelona with added horns and violin.
Your love for Knopfler is a genuine pleasure to watch. You help me appreciate his kusic even more, thank you for making such excellent, thoughtful videos.
As an amateur guitarist for something like 40 years..., I really enjoy your reaction, observations, and playing. Particularly to anything Mark has done! In a similar vein, try "What it Is", "Boom, Like That", and/or "Cleaning My Gun". Cheers
Mark wrote this for a tv series called "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet"" about constrution workers from Newcastle who, because of the bad economic situation in Brittain in the 80's went to work in Germany. "Why aye man", is something people in Newcastle often say and means something like "Yes, of course". It's 2 actors from the series that do the Why aye man harmony in the chorus.
@@FaanaMusic one of the two actors singing the backing vocals is Jimmy Nail who's also a musician. You might like to check out his song Big River, about Newcastle and the River Tyne that runs through it. The song features Mark Knopfler on guitar and Alan Clark from Dire Straits on the organ. Other guitarists to have featured on Jimmy's albums include Dave Gilmour, Gary Moore and George Harrison.
Love this song! Thank you for your thoughtful reaction and analysis. Make sure to check out the full studio recording as well (2 min longer) - unfortunately this video cuts off the great outro.
Another stone cold Knopfler Classic. Must watch it live, as you know, he tends to make his songs even more remarkable in a live setting. There really is almost a limitless bucket of Knopfler songs to react to. Yes, there is a limit lol... Until he writes more if you catch my drift. Excellent reaction once again. Thumb 👍
Ok. I can see it in all your videos: you cannot stop playing the guitar along with him. And you know what: it's just phenomenal! I love it so much! You are for sure a great musician (i play the guitar, too). Love to watch your reactions to Mark - they come from a true professional. Best regards from Switzerland Linus
If you want to see Mark play with a pick, which he rarely does, "Our Shangri La" from the "Real live roadrunning" concert with Emmylou Harris is great ua-cam.com/video/iR2z9zpw-0Y/v-deo.html

Yes and thank you. "Maggie's hand and Maggie's farm" of cource refers to Margaret Thatcher's "ruling" as PM. Great song and lyrics! 🎶🙏🎸

Thanks a lot Linus, that means a lot! 🙏
Nothing like the live performances. ALways extended and with a larger band. Take any of his last tour 2019.
Great analysis, love your enthusiasm !
Thank you! 🙏
