39:33 I've been to Hua Hin/Cha Am twice (in 2009 and 2013) and i kept saying to myself-when is mark going 2 talk about the beaches? Bur then you did. There is no comparison between the two, hua hin was just rockier and Phuket is in a class of its own. I think it all boils down 2 what you want out of life, but Thailand offers so many diverse retirement lifestyle options all around the country. I think a lot of subscribers would enjoy breaking it up and living a few months in bkk, phk, hh, chiang mai etc...and could never get bored

I retired in Hua Hin for the only one reason. It's located close to Bangkok, 4 hours by road, so I can travel to other countries. The Hua Hin beaches and laidback lifestyle may be attractive to many, but can get boring, too. Some need mental stimulation exploring different places while I am pjysically fit.
I love Hua Hin. The beach tranquility, the lack of traffic in the Night Market, hospital, library section. The small businesses, the lack of an in-your-face bar scene, the location, the demographics of the expat community, the cost of living. I don't have many qualms w/ Jomtien- where I've only lived what will be a year tomorrow. But it's next door to an energy, mindset, and trade that isn't my preference as a retiree. I've been to Chiang Mai a couple times. I fly to Samui tomorrow. Hua Hin = Thai perfection for a non-drinking male pensioner. Moving there in three months.

I lie a few drinks now and then and to be around some lady’s but not where it’s too crazy either. If I was going to Pattaya , Jomtien would definitely be my place away from that crazy rhetoric. Dude, this is the main point of my eventually discovery trip…acclimate in Bangkok for a few nights, then hit both Hui Hin & Jomtien for a month each for possible home base. I know Jomtien is an extension of Pattaya, but it seems lower key & is on the sundowner 🍻 side.
Hua Hin for the win. Better food for cheaper. Cheap bolt drivers to get around. Still has night spots if you want it. Market Village is great for shopping and cheap food downstairs. Only thing I like about Phuket is the beaches.

LOL I am in Hua Hin right now and had a beer an hour ago at that bar by Monkey Mountain you showed, I also ate at that cheeky dog pizza last night, which was to your right of you, 100 Bhat for a pepperoni pizza that was pretty good That food court had a live band and the bar across from the pizza place had 65 Bhat Big Chang beers. another great video. Brother Mark, Another great video. Only thing I would add is that Phuket is more beautiful and has the islands that are world famous. As they say in real estate everything comes down to location and that applies worldwide. You can get a mansion in a small town in Alabama for the price of a studio in San Francisco. Peace

I think the with the Gulf you sacrifice the perfect water of Phuket for the more stable weather in the "rainy" season. The areas south of Huan Hin seems to be nice for getaways too. Cha Am up the road is supposed to be a very close super value as well. Might be time to make the. move Doc! Great video and one that was needed.

Good vid, fair comparison. Hua Hin is getting high speed rail very soon, so the Bangkok travel time will be on par w/ Phuket in another year or two. And you make a good point about the rainy season being a bit intense down south.

I’ve lived in Thailand 7 years and I am pretty certain I will never go to Phuket. I went to Hua Hin in 2018. We did some fun stuff but I found the traffic and lack of parking to be really bad. That’s the memory that sticks with me. I’m willing to give Hua Hin a 2nd chance though.

My favoite place. Been going there every six months the last few years. Moving there full-time next month. It is definitely not for everyone, but for me it checks all the boxes. It is relatively quiet while still offering multiple hotspots for nightlife if that is what you are looking for. Yes, the main Hua Hin beach is rocky, but walk down ten minutes towards Kao Takiab beach and nothing but sand. Lots of options for living arrangements at all budgets based on distance to city center and beach. Best part is no huge influx of 20-something drunk tourists. The vast majority of tourists are older expats and families.Also agree with your assessment of the girl situation. If you want super hot, young party girls Phuket is definitely a better destination, but still plenty of fun girls to be found in Hua Hin.

Interesting that you give Phuket the edge regarding proximity to BKK - Patong to Phuket airport can be pretty arduous - also at the airport check in etc...plus it costs a lot more overall...
I prefer the planes and remeby I'm taking my bike to the airport if I'm jumping to Bkk for a quick trip ... So yeah I'll take a plane over the bus or train any day... But that's me
Yeah that’s wild. I drive between Bangkok and Hua Hin all the time, usually only takes me about 2.5 hours door to door, 3 if traffic is slow. Even without a car it’s only 3-4 hours with the bus, tho I think not having a car out here is crazy.
I think I will be their after Chang Mai as Phuket is just getting toooo touristy prices are going up no value for your buck this should be an eye opener for all thanks Mark you won me over 👍🥃🍻✈️

Stayed in Hua Hin for the first time last winter. Prefer the competing towns of Cha-am and Prachuap Khiri Khan. Found your comments about the women interesting as my girlfriend was warned by a salon owner and a hotel owner to be more vigilant as the Hua Hin girls specialized in stealing older men.

Why not so heavy rain in Hua Hin during rainy reason? Because the mountains in Myanmar gets most of the rain coming from the Indian Ocean. When the clouds hits Hua Hin (actually not far from the Myanmar border) there is not much rain left.
Hi Mark, what do you think about Krabi? I'm looking for Thai culture, great availability of Thai food (Night Markets), happy and more than massages. I like playing pool, but I'm not really a drinker, a love sailing so a center near by would be a pluse, and most importantly rent a beach front condo under ฿45,000 that has good surfcasting (AKA fishing the ocean shores) near by. Problem with Hua Hin is the beach is East facing, you don't get sunsets and where there's high rise buildings behind the beach you can lose the sun as early as 4pm

No contest these days - Phuket is a hellhole now, esp Patong. Infrastucture can't cope, and everything is a total rip off.Ok for a visit still for a wild weekend, but wouldn';t want to live there. Hua Hin is a nice pace of life, better value, much more chill chill. For mad weekends/shopping trips Bangkok is only a few hours away from Hua Hin too.

Hua Hin looks okay if you're not into water activities. You already mentioned lower quality beaches. Also no nearby islands to explore. Poor quality snorkeling, scuba and offshore fishing. Not a place to live if you'd like to own a boat and explore. Those are deal-breakers for me. I'd rather pay more and be able to enjoy the sea!
Mark, speaking of the babes in Phuket ,.. last winter I saw this woman walking down the street in a white dress near bang tao beach, now don’t get me wrong, I’m not a creep but I had to turn around on my scooter to get another look , not in a spank bank type of way , but to just inconspicuously admire how beautiful she was, there were actually other scooters that had pulled over on the side of the road to take a better gander , I’ve never seen anything like it

Retired expat from the US living in Tland 6 1/2 years . We lived in Phuket 4 1/2 years. Left 11/22. Too many russians arrived, traffic got horrible. But we visit in low season, there now. Its ok, not crowded. Hotel prices great. Never found food that expensive. Been to HH numerous times. Usually 4 daya at a time. Its ok, but couldnt retire there. Seems kinda small, overall Phuket much more to do. We live now in a city in S Tland. Travel every month. Its great, plenty to do and see.

My favoite place. Been going there every six months the last few years. Moving there full-time next month. It is definitely not for everyone, but for me it checks all the boxes. It is relatively quiet while still offering multiple hotspots for nightlife if that is what you are looking for. Yes, the main Hua Hin beach is rocky, but walk down ten minutes towards Kao Takiab beach and nothing but sand. Lots of options for living arrangements at all budgets based on distance to city center and beach. Best part is no huge influx of 20-something drunk tourists. The vast majority of tourists are older expats and families.Also agree with your assessment of the girl situation. If you want super hot, young party girls Phuket is definitely a better destination, but still plenty of fun girls to be found in Hua Hin.

Interesting that you give Phuket the edge regarding proximity to BKK - Patong to Phuket airport can be pretty arduous - also at the airport check in etc...plus it costs a lot more overall...
I prefer the planes and remeby I'm taking my bike to the airport if I'm jumping to Bkk for a quick trip ...
So yeah I'll take a plane over the bus or train any day...

Yeah that’s wild. I drive between Bangkok and Hua Hin all the time, usually only takes me about 2.5 hours door to door, 3 if traffic is slow.
Even without a car it’s only 3-4 hours with the bus, tho I think not having a car out here is crazy.

Stayed in Hua Hin for the first time last winter. Prefer the competing towns of Cha-am and Prachuap Khiri Khan. Found your comments about the women interesting as my girlfriend was warned by a salon owner and a hotel owner to be more vigilant as the Hua Hin girls specialized in stealing older men.

Why not so heavy rain in Hua Hin during rainy reason? Because the mountains in Myanmar gets most of the rain coming from the Indian Ocean. When the clouds hits Hua Hin (actually not far from the Myanmar border) there is not much rain left.

Hi Mark, what do you think about Krabi? I'm looking for Thai culture, great availability of Thai food (Night Markets), happy and more than massages. I like playing pool, but I'm not really a drinker, a love sailing so a center near by would be a pluse, and most importantly rent a beach front condo under ฿45,000 that has good surfcasting (AKA fishing the ocean shores) near by. Problem with Hua Hin is the beach is East facing, you don't get sunsets and where there's high rise buildings behind the beach you can lose the sun as early as 4pm

No contest these days - Phuket is a hellhole now, esp Patong. Infrastucture can't cope, and everything is a total rip off.Ok for a visit still for a wild weekend, but wouldn';t want to live there. Hua Hin is a nice pace of life, better value, much more chill chill. For mad weekends/shopping trips Bangkok is only a few hours away from Hua Hin too.
BTW, I was in Patong a few weeks ago, and it took FOUR hours in a taxi to the airport due to the weather.
How clean are the beaches in Hua Hin??

Interesting that the massages are more expensive but everything else is half as cheap. Maybe it’s over saturated in Phuket so they have to cut prices.
No I'm not quite sure what it is to be honest with you there's also a lot of real actual massage shops in Hua Hin as opposed to basically brothels that you're going to find out on Phuket.....

Hua Hin is really interesting hopefully you'll check out my upcoming video on my thoughts and opinions about it.....
Hua Hin looks okay if you're not into water activities. You already mentioned lower quality beaches. Also no nearby islands to explore. Poor quality snorkeling, scuba and offshore fishing. Not a place to live if you'd like to own a boat and explore. Those are deal-breakers for me. I'd rather pay more and be able to enjoy the sea!

Mark, speaking of the babes in Phuket ,.. last winter I saw this woman walking down the street in a white dress near bang tao beach, now don’t get me wrong, I’m not a creep but I had to turn around on my scooter to get another look , not in a spank bank type of way , but to just inconspicuously admire how beautiful she was, there were actually other scooters that had pulled over on the side of the road to take a better gander , I’ve never seen anything like it

Retired expat from the US living in Tland 6 1/2 years .
We lived in Phuket 4 1/2 years. Left 11/22. Too many russians arrived, traffic got horrible.
But we visit in low season, there now. Its ok, not crowded. Hotel prices great. Never found food that expensive.
Been to HH numerous times. Usually 4 daya at a time. Its ok, but couldnt retire there. Seems kinda small, overall Phuket much more to do.
We live now in a city in S Tland. Travel every month. Its great, plenty to do and see.
