I have seen fake vents and artificial aero , but this could be the first time I’ve ever seen what are essentially red paint-on fake tow hooks. I’m disgusted and impressed. they’ll say it’s just a fun styling cue, but that’s 100% them trying to simulate the look of red tow hooks without actually putting on tow hooks. Amazing

Whomever is in charge of roof racks at Nissan is the one carrying that brand, and has been for years. Imagine an Xterra without a roof rack. Terrible, right? But now look at a 2011-ish Frontier vs a Frontier Pro-4X, the roof rack is what makes it look good. I'd argue the same goes for the current Pathfinder vs Pathfinder Rock Creek and now the Rogue vs the Rogue Rock Creek. Those beefy tubular roof racks are carrying a lot of the aesthetic weight for these vehicles. So once again; Mr./Mrs. Roof Rack Designer, we salute you as the true load-bearing hero that you are.

Its a soft-roader, perfect for someone that is spending 99% of the time on the highway and 1% of the time on fireroads at a camp site. Its comfortable, good fuel economy, handles fine, and 8.2" of ground clearance thanks to its low overhangs is sufficient. The 360 camera and front view on fire roads is good, and the AWD systems are so advanced now this had no issues going through what just about anyone would ACTUALLY put this through on a camping trip with the family... and it looks cool.

Back in the 1990’s we were really roughing it. We would go tent camping with the kids in a ’87 Chrysler 5th Avenue with anemic air conditioning. The 318 V8 and auto trans got us thru anything. I cannot image exploring the outdoors in a lifestyle vehicle with a three cylinder variable compression engine linked to a CVT made by Nissan.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot День тому +10

The latest CVT is called the CVT-X, its torque rating is very high. Its a dual pump chain style unit, just like in the Subaru Wilderness line, which are similar soft-road vehicles. And I'm guessing you're aware, its not cylinders that matter its horsepower and torque. The engine makes 205hp and 225ftlbs of torque at low RPM, more than the inline-6 in my old Jeep, and more than enough to power this relatively lightweight AWD vehicle.

Aren’t these trims mostly a response to most CUVs all looking like blobs. The “outdoor” thing is an attempt to get the cars to look a bit more brawny, and to help their owners forget their suburban cookie cutter existence. If anything, companies should just make their base models more square and save themselves the complexity of an extra trim line.

The engine and cvt transmission work really well in the city and the highway. I used to drive an F150 before and the 10sp transmission was the worst. I much prefer the cvt in the Rogue. I live in Toronto and both the Rav4 and CRV are being stolen left and right. Subaru has that awful center screen and Mazda doesn't offer lane centering and remote start on the key fob. I will speak a bit from enthusiast/consumer perspective.
    I am from Croatia, Europe.
Currently I drive 2024 Suzuki S-Cross Allgrip MT6, 1.4t mild hybrid, bit of a peach, that car.
However, last year my parents bought 2023 Nissan Xtrail/Rouge with the 1.5 VCT engine 163hp in Europe, only sold as FWD. That car in top trim is 44K euros, my Suzuki is just under 29K euros, just a bit of context. Rav4 and CRV are hybrid only and cost 50K-60K(Xtrail has hybrid option which is around 50K top trim). Also Ive just driven my friends 2023 2.0L 165hp AT6 CX5 which is midspec around 40K euros.
Knowing all this, Xtrail/Rogue in Europe is very price competitive and as we all know chassis is full of aluminum, they use acousting glass etc. And that car FEELS premium in normal driving, highway... that Mazda CX5 cannot quite reach(6speed in Mazda feels no better in normal driving than CVT in Nissan, both respond to padels fine enough, but VC-T is torquier, more refined and uses less fuel). Also, warranty on the car is 6years, 150.000km and our Nissan dealer says they havent had SINGLE blown trans in any Nissan last 6, 7 years. We have great experiences from 2.0L Qashqai's before(2 of them, above 200.000km each, no major issues except new exhaust and some interior trim). New Xtrail feels as quality as any other nice crossover with good propilot assist, great insulation and nice materials with competitive pricing is just good deal and great car. Every time I drive it I do feel money well spent.
Both my Suzuki and that Nissan are ceramic coated and we take care of cars. But our experiences so far with Nissans in Europe are very good(Xtrail for EU is built in Japan, as is, I think Rogue for US, I guess same factory). Really possible that Nissan sends worse cars to US than Europe?

I'm sure Rock Creek is a relatively common name for a few places, but it is perhaps most famously the name of a giant city park that splits Washington, D.C. in two, with the eponymous creek finding its way to the Potomac.

The Kicks is now available in AWD, 360 camera, very short overhang on front and rear bumpers, and has 8.4" of ground clearance (more than the Rogue) stock already. Just put on the same wheels from the Rogue Rock Creek on a SR trim, change a few badges and colors, and call it a day. Inexpensive to produce and would be a nice option over the huge wheel rubber band tires they currently offer on the SR trim since that trim is not offered in anything but 19" wheels.

Nothing, but this comes with standard AWD, looks neat, nicer wheel/tire package for softroading, roof rack that can hold 250lbs, front camera on with hill decent control, and well a 360 camera in general. They took an SV Premium trim and gave it a styling and mild offroad package, which is fine everything is a compromise. If they lifted it 2" higher it would be over 10" tall and it would ruin the handling.

In some ways, I don't think a CR-V buyer would be cross-shopping this, and vice versa, just purely based on the looks and vibe. This one feels much more fun, youthful, and interesting - whether or not it actually is. I don't hate it.

He told me that an engine or transmission swap out at the Honda dealership would be a big deal. It almost never happens. They have to special order it. It takes forever because of the shipping. Yada, yada, yada. - He says so this one day, I had to go over to the Nissan dealership. In the back they had a bunch of engines and transmissions. He said wow, you have that many swaps scheduled?! They said, we have a few on deck. The rest are just good to keep on hand. Because we do them a lot.... - Enough said. lol

So that might have a far lower percentage, and still pass them in numbers.

If that is 10% of your net income you’re making $7000 a month yeah that’s pretty good.I feel like automotive journalist is really don’t understand the cost of vehicles and what people can actually afford. A $70,000 vehicle is going to be $1200 a month easily. Which is now approaching to being the average.
