Have you turned off the active engine sound (soundaktor)? Because sometimes people won’t and experience a lot louder of a noise or drone. Also separately, the valves on the b9 S4/5 only open above 3k rpm otherwise they are always closed unless you have a tune that allows you to fully control them. I think it’s because of regulations in the EU. Correct me if I’m wrong but from the forums, that’s what I found out. Amazing video and quality. I wish there were more high quality videos like yours around!
Thanks for watching and the kind words. Ill try coding out soundaktor today and see if it makes any difference. In my experience the valves do open over 3k rpm in Comfort/D mode but in Dynamic/S they will open up at idle and allow you to rev. You can hear them click open when selecting Dynamic mode. Though without a tune I have experienced the computer having a brain of its own and sometimes does close them. Ill try the soundaktor and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the tip!
It really does seem to work. I coded out soundaktor and the drone is probably 20% quieter with valves open and 30% with the valves closed. This is a palpable difference. Still stand by saying its a lot of drone, but this helps make it more livable. It didnt even cross my mind that soundaktor actually amplifies engine noise, i thought it was more synthetically generated based on rpm/tps. Daryll Harrison, Volkswagen Brand Public Relations Manager, says "The Soundaktor amplifies actual engine sound in the cabin of the car. It does not re-create nor utilize pre-recorded sound.”
Yeah this is becoming the premier go-to for all my S4 B9 needs. Thanks a lot for the content and can't wait to see how you fix those darn exhaust valves!
Bought an 18 S4 last year. We are pretty much on the same journey. I really appreciate your content. If there is anything I can do for you let me know, not sure what that may be but again, it’s like this was meant to be.
Appreciate the offer :) and thanks for watching! I think we're both going to be pretty happy with these S4s as we build them. The platform seems pretty solid. I'm really loving mine so far.
You did this the hardest way possible. A chain pipe cutter works great back and fortg a bit cuts pipe easily, just measurenwell. Dont have to drop the rear boxes at all. But hey it worked out fine. This for 400bucks is the best exhasut mod a guy can get. Adds the most rich non rasp non drone sound. I have stock dps but jhm test pips with this xpipe set up and its fantastic. I came from subies, and my wrxs were loud. The trick is to get some performance get the volume, without the drone. I see a ton of audi guys complain of drone but to me maybe it isnt as noticable. I dislike rasp. Where it almost sounds tinny. The tinny sound is disgusting. This gives it some depth and some tuned type sound and kills all of that timny rasp
Thanks! Im in the middle of a pretty large set of mod installs (vids coming) so ill be swapping the x-pipe for a full catback and new dp. So will soon see how the drone changes.
I don't get why you would put an x-pipe on this car - Res delete is fine, but if you understand the function of an x-pipe it makes no sense at all on this car. (looking for an 18' S5 sportback right now)
I recently replaced my oem catback that had the vsp from res. pipe deletes and 034 x pipe, I pulled the system off the car besides the two pipes coming off the downpipe and I started it up, let me tell you, you can hear how booming this engines exhaust note is, just the nature of it.
Chaz, yea I think you're probably right. I just bought a ECS Tuning valved exhaust, will be installing it soon. Hope it will give me a good middle of the road of what I want.
Jarred it is the RS4 style pre-facelift B9 grille. I got mine from Enthusiast Brands. However, as far as I can tell its the same Chinese ones on Aliexpress. They shipped it from China, Enthusiast Brands just drop-shipped it. They typoed my address and it was lost for a while. Furthermore it came broken and Enthusiast Brands didn’t want to replace it. Just gave me a $50 refund. I had to acetone weld a part of it together and paint it, its not a visible part of it that broke. I would just get it from Ali cheap or find an ebay seller with US stock.
Its the ecs tuning carbon fiber one, but painted piano black to match the car. Their black one was out of stock when someone rear-ended me. The carbon is more aggressively shaped too.
Yea the v6 in this car is just very drone inducing. Id say thats one of the tame options if you go with AWE. Personal experience is everything drones to some extent outside of bone stock. Usually deleting the first set of resonators on a stock system is pretty mild (the ones on the down pipes). With them on i think the AWE will be tolerable for people sensitive to drone.
Nope, its saving a couple of pounds in weight (few more if you weld the back section), but I doubt you'll see any performance benefit or change in driving characteristics.

@@DmitrysGarage very interesting! Thank you for the in-depth and quick reply!

Thanks Adam :), will have that video soon.

Best video of this mod I've found yet. Thanks.
Your video quality is sick. Good job
Thank you, that means a lot to me!

What well put together video. Bravo 👏🏾
Looking forward to the diffuser video👍
Its coming!
Gotta love a portaband
Thanks for the comparisons
Nice work! I’m in between this mod or going with a Highflow DP. I feel like the DP would have less drone. I just want to add a little volume.
Thanks! Im in the middle of a pretty large set of mod installs (vids coming) so ill be swapping the x-pipe for a full catback and new dp. So will soon see how the drone changes.
Really appreciate the video! Best one out there!
The 034 catless down pipe ?! For stage 2 will that add major drone or rasp ?! Sound I have the awe touring exhaust I love it .. has 0 drone sound
Great video!
Beautiful, my new car in italy, but i really prefer the stock best exhaust, at all!
8:40 is it just me or does it look like the RS3 torque splitting diff would fit in there if you found a different route for the exhaust👹
If i do muffler delete will i have a code since there is no more muffler valve?
Does this have a tune or no? Thinking about doing this to my car

Curious, why’d you choose the X-pipe mid-muffler delete vs the dual front resonator delete?
Seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm on the ECS valved exhaust.
What size are the clamps?
Where in the Houston area are you?
What which after market grill do you have? Could you reply the link for it? Big fan been looking for one on my own

Any other exhaust mods or is this the first change? Down pipe?
No downpipe. Just the res delete
Where is the diffuser from?

Do you think the awe touring exhaust with resonated down pipes … not deleted .. will get rid of most of the drone sound …. That’s v6 for you

@@DmitrysGarage you recommend resonated ?? Then or resonator delete ..
@@Aliastaylor I would do it resonated if you're sensitive to drone.
Do you have to cut
Do u notice any difference with how it drives?
Nope, its saving a couple of pounds in weight (few more if you weld the back section), but I doubt you'll see any performance benefit or change in driving characteristics.
Curious is there an HP gain with X pipe?
Angel, if there is it would be very small, like a few hp tops.
what is the Name of the Rear-diffusor?
It's the ECS Tuning diffuser, I have a video out for it, you should check it out :).
wouldn't this fail an emissions test :)
Not at all. This part has no impact on emissions whatsoever. Its just sound related.
@@dmitrydovidenko5630 saylesss ima order one today then 👍🏼😤
You have a downpipe?
I do not at this time, but probably going to get one.
@@DmitrysGarage I got one , I'll give you a great deal on for a shout out

Sounds worse. Just an annoying rasp as with all S5 X pipe mods
