#AStarisBorn stars Bradley Cooper and music superstar Lady Gaga, in her first leading role in a major motion picture. Cooper helms the drama, marking his directorial debut.
In this new take on the tragic love story, he plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers-and falls in love with-struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer... until Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.

Lady Gaga has never looked more beautiful than in this movie in her genuine self.
Just got home from watching this movie.... oh man, it is so good. Tear jerker too.
And then they give her a makeover that makes her look like a drag queen. In every other version of A Star Is Born the rising star resists being turned into something fake. In this one she submits without a protest. She even lets them try to turn her into a gyrating J-Lo/Beyonce hybrid that is nothing like the singer-songwriter she wants to be. Streisand made a point of making her character a strong feminist, who resists being packaged. Even the Judy Garland version has more of a feminist sensibility than Cooper's. I'm surprised Gaga let it happen. Her character is so much more submissive and helpless and masochistic than her equivalents in the other films.
I completely agree. It's such a bare love story. I've only seen it once, but look forward to seeing it again, on DVD, at home. It's a great film. It's almost a eulogy to Rock and Roll, love, acceptance and courage. Cooper hit a very raw nerve with this one and it's gorgeous.
Except it isn't her self, its a character in clothes made for the role.
There are shards of the character that is Lady Gaga Sure, but she has openly said that Ally is far from what She is or was when she was an upcoming artist.
Her genuine self doesnt have a set form, if u had listened closely to the lyrics of Born This Way for example, you would understand this.
She has also said in interviews that she is constantly changing and evolving and she do not like being put into labels.
Her true genuine self is that she is an ever changing form.

I think why Lady Gaga did so well in this film is because in a way, Ally is her. A singer-songwriter who was told too many times that she is not beautiful, so she debuted and started her career "hiding" her face so we pay more attention to her music. But she is beautiful. Mother Monster is gorgeous.

Julianne Hannes - I really don't mean to start a whole thing here, but I just wanna say that even though she was accepted, she never actually went to Juliard. It's still an incredible feat, indicative of prodigal talents, and just imagine how much more she probably could have accomplished had she stayed there instead of going to catholic school. I believe she went to Tisch School of Arts a few years later instead.

I’m like years behind watching this , mainly bc I thought it was a chick flick and didn’t make time to watch it , so me and my wife are sitting here watching, damn .... I don’t cry in movies , probably haven’t since watching old yeller , this movie is so damn good it hurt my soul bc it’s a real problem. I was an Alcoholic for years before I met my wife 7 years ago. I fight it I have my bad days and good days with it but I haven’t touched the stuff. She doesn’t know the battle until she saw me crying to this movie, I told her everything and how I lost my son and that’s what made me to be a drunk to hide the pain. I even thought about riding my bike into a train one night but my bike wouldn’t start. This movie is so real and if anyone is battling it keep fighting it’s worth it you are worth it ! Praying for anyone who’s battling something tonight, love is what we need ! Everyone needs love to make it ! Damn good movie

I have been counting down the months since I first heard about this movie. The 76 version is one of my favorite movies. 1 month until this one opens!

Compare Gaga's turn in Star with Streisand's in Funny Girl, her first film. Now that was an extraordinary performance which undoubtedly hailed the arrival of a great new star, and Oscar voters do like to vote for the future. Streisand had already been signed to a four-picture deal, so she was clearly going to last. I don't think there's the same confidence that Gaga will go on to have a solid film career. And the political and sentimental factors that will influence voting for 2019 mostly go against Gaga. For example, Glenn Close is a lock for The Wife, and Close, easily one of the great actors of her generation, has been six times nominated without a win. And she's great in The Wife. She will be deemed far more deserving. It feels like it's her turn. Also, other likely nominees include Felicity Jones, Keira Knightly, Carey Mulligan and Saiorse Ronan - all previous nominees who have not yet won. If voters are in the mood to vote for the future by awarding a deserving younger, newer star then these actors all have more gravitas than Gaga. The way I never bought into the hye, but these clips just prove that there is indeed some excellent acting, singing and lines.
The real standout being Gaga is something I never thought I would say. She is so natural and raw.

The original film of 'A Star is Born' was made in 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March,
1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, which is my favourite version because of Judy's brilliant singing, especially when she sings 'The Man that got Away' and 1976 with Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. It'll be interesting to see how this fourth version will compare with the others. But I'm sure it will do well.

Didn't know what to expect, but it was fantastic. Both Lady GaGha and Bradley Cooper are such huge stars. This movie shows their talents well.

Unfortunately, the ridiculous Academy does not allow a couple in a film to earn best actor and best actress. I really believe walking Phoenix was robbed of an Oscar. Also, Clark Gable in Gone With the Wind just to name a few. It's so sad that Bradley Cooper will probably not win for best actor hopefully for another category but I think he should win based on the trailers alone
