I think a point they missed on the boxers are less intelligent than any other athletes is the fact that they probably take two to three times more punches to the head than a mma fighter or a nfl lineman. brain damage is accumulative also the 10 sec rule is the worst part of boxing to get hit after a concussion is horrible for the brain

And just like American Idol, it's what you do with your opportunity after that makes you stay relevant. If you suck, you don't become successful, people forget you and you disappear. How many fighters and celebs have been on JRE and have plugged their podcasts, they're not as popular. I know people who watch this and not JRE
I'm a wrestling coach and wrestled in my past, I'd agree that it's a dumb/poor person's sport, as well as a brilliant person's sport. There is a very wide spectrum to the sport, but it does tend to get the lower class white population in higher numbers, perhaps because they are more aggressive and need an outlet. Wrestling has improved my life in multiple ways, it's a great sport and can supply simple folk, as well as master technicians, with a great discipline. Boxing is probably similar.
Wrestling and many other martial arts/combat sports, specifically, might be even more inclined for the lower class because they don't require much more than a training partner. Other than sports like hockey or lacrosse that require more equipment expenses. Interesting thought.
