You probably would love the Atomic Robo rpg’s presentation. It includes many many examples of characters playing the game as themselves, using specific scenes as rules examples and commenting as they play. It’s crazy and meta.
I've run an adventure of this through Play by Post and it went well. I never use grid combat so I just put an image of the location and used description for placement and movement. Strict initiative is awful in PbP because its asynchronus so I just did group initiative, rolling once for each side and it works well. If I play this live I will use popcorn initiative as its my favorite type. The biggest problem I have with supers is the realism. One player was Wolverine and when he attacks with his claws what happens? Are there implements and severed limbs or do the henchmen just "fall unconscious"? It was a big struggle for me.
I've still never run or played a superhero game. I remember thinking the character creation from Aberrant (from White Wolf way back when) seemed pretty cool, but I don't know how the game played. This one definitely doesn't interest me.
@@DMTalesTTRPG yeah. Just this Marvel game. Super heroes have never really been my thing, but I've enjoyed a bunch of the movies and a few of the comics (I really like Invincible, enjoyed an old indie series called The Elementals, and a few of the self-contained one-offs for Batman & Superman, like The Long Halloween and All-Star Superman). I'd definitely be up for playing in a game, especially run by someone who's really into them and has a good sense of the "language" and logic of super heroes. Not being a particular fan of Marvel of DC, I like the idea of gaming in either a lesser known universe, or one made by the GM/around the table. Something like George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards, which if I remember right, came out of a game of Chaosium's Superworld way back when. I ordered Sentinel Comics on your advice, by the way. It just showed up last night, and is a much meatier tome than I expected. I haven't cracked it open yet, and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. But the price was so crazy low, I couldn't pass it up.
The words were penned in November, it counts!!!! sigh.... Disney..... no digital, sad seems like a few interesting concepts, but I think I'm like you, probably won't every play the system myself. Thanks for the review
I really disliked this game and sold it to a second hand bookshop within a couple weeks of owning it. If i wanted complicated character creation I'd go with Mutants and Masterminds because it's done much better than in Marvel. Supers games need to be more loosey-goosey and less rigid in character builds and power function by nature. I prefer using Index Card RPG, Icons Assembled, and Tiny Supers. I also need to take another look at my copy of Sentinels Comics RPG thanks to your review. The upcoming FASERIP reboot, Heroic RPG has my attention as well.
Yah, I really wanted to like this game because I have fond memories of Marvel back in the day. But, it’s designed for a style of play I don’t particularly enjoy. And that’s fine, not every game has to be for me. I did like a couple of choices they made but mostly it felt too…small.
@@DMTalesTTRPGI felt the the system was definitely a bit off for me, but as far as character creation, I prefer to just play characters from that universe instead of making a new character for the Marvel Universe.
I will say that while character creation has some fiddling, it’s all that involved. Sentinel Comics has a lot more moving parts, but I like the finished product better as well.
Fair review, Wes. I always have trouble when I have to review books that I'm not crazy about.
Thanks. The second read, and then writing my thoughts out, helped. But it’s still not a game I’m thrilled with.

@sharpmountaingames9303 eh. That happens to me only on rare occasions. People are weird.
@@DMTalesTTRPG Not that I want it to happen. You're too nice a guy.
@sharpmountaingames9303 well that’s not true, but thanks!

Oh…nice! Thanks for the tip!
Congrats on finishing your Supervember
THANK YOU! I can’t believe I got all four in, with a short trip and a major holiday breaking things up, too!

Hmmm
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I think I prefer Sentinels. Anyway, I appreciate the effort of the chapter slide graphic, but I couldn't read it.
Need to pause it…yah. Sorry!
I'm not here to say "first!" I'm just pleasing the algorithm.
The ambivalent algorithm notices you…and feels nothing.
But I’M grateful!!!
@@DMTalesTTRPG Lol. That feels like something out of the RPG Paranoia. I've never played it, but I want to.
@chrisdonovan8795 me too!

That seems to be a wide sentiment.
Oh, wait. For this game. I thought you meant super hero RPGs in general.
