When people who know nothing about the subject make stupid videos. 1. This NOT the best university list, this is a league list. 2. The Best university in the UK 2024 is Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Edinburgh, Kings, LSE, etc. 3. There is no way in the universe, Loughborough could have been ranked 10th, and Edinburgh not make top 10-anyone who is familiar with the subject would have noticed the bs they are saying. 4. It is Warrik, not WarWiK bruhh. These hypey Americans just keep proving the stereotypes people have about them.
When people make stupid comments without bothering to google is even worse. It's the sunday times list, clearly says in the video. Just because you studied in Edinburgh doesn't make it top10.
@@vladslalom4770 re-read my comment and then try, just try to use your brain to comprehend it. It is not a top 10 list. And I studied in Oxbridge.
Manchester left the chat lol
@@itzel.marquez1827 bro, do you realize there are multiple ways to rank colleges, and multiple lists as well? This is one list with one set of rankings… I think you’re just mad your previous Oxbridge didn’t rank first lmao. St. Andrew’s is better anyway, my sister is going there and she likes it at least (and yes, she also got into Oxford, UCL, and Edinburgh, and multiple top ranked schools in the states, so it’s not like she just didn’t have any other options)
@@itzel.marquez1827 someone is salty they didn’t go to the top university
oxford, cambridge, imperial, lse, ucl, durham, warwick, st andrews, bath, bristol, kcl, edinburgh imo
On what grounds tho, Oxford and imperial teach very different courses??? Lboro is probs the best sport uni in Europe
I’m gonna be completely honest about something. Sometimes it’s not always worth going to a big university because of its big name. One of my older sisters friends got into Cambridge with full marks after A-levels. She was there for almost a year but her mental health really started to decline. She’s okay now, but at the time she was really struggling with anxiety and a bunch of other stuff. She turned to the school for help but they didn’t care about helping her because they were more interested in keeping up with the image rather than helping with the students mental health. That’s the thing with these universities. A lot of the times they only care about preserving their respected image rather than caring for the mental health of their students.
I had a friend went to Durham and changed after her first year. She hated it.
These universities are not supposed to be easy, they are the best of the best. Not for everyone. If you can't handle that pressure don't go. Do not expect the institution to lower it's standards to cater to your "mental health". You are there voluntarily.
@@nochpo4230 it wasn’t me, so you don’t need to be addressing me. I completely hear what you’re saying and it does make sense. She wasn’t crumbling because of the pressure, she was crumbling just because her mental health just kind of dissipated from something else I was not told about. I’m just saying that they could’ve been a little bit more supportive.
I'm literally reading this while sitting in my room at Cambridge, feeling exactly the same as how you described your sister's friend, and trying to gain some motivation to keep ploughing on. I'm about to take my second-year undergrad exams, and feel like I'm drowning. I'm running on 1.5hrs of sleep, and 4 cups of strong coffee. Will I get the work done, and get through exams? Yes. Will it be physically and mentally healthy for me? Probably not. And what you said about the attitude of the uni to mental health (I haven't had to ask for help in this area, but do know people who have) and preserving their image is the tip of the iceberg of what I've witnessed being hushed up here.
@@bicbiro1116 oh my gosh, I’m so sorry you have to go through that. I understand obviously university days are not all sunshine and rainbows. You got this! You don’t have much longer left until the summer break you got this!
Lmao st andrews above oxbridge - what biased weighted metrics are they using - QS world league tables is the most realistic comparison
cope
qs focusses on research outputs which puts st andrews lower bc it gets far less funding. for undegrad its deserved no1
Noooo see the QS rankings place a lot of emphasis on research output and they dont scale it with the size of the Uni. St Andrews actually punches above its weight in terms of output but is limited by its small size, only 10k students.
As a side note, assuming Oxbridge will always get no 1 is elitist, and also bad use of statistics. The times hasn't really changed their methodology at all, its just that Oxbridge has become complacent where St Andrews has tried to keep up with the times.
@@euanstokes2828saying something is elitist against St Andrews. What a world.
@@archiebuchan2563 well yeah because St Andrews' fees are significantly lower the Oxbridge, and Scottish students can attend for free. Its an elite uni yes, but compared to Oxbridge its nothing. You'd find the same types of people at a uni like Bath or Edinburgh id say.

All the nerds getting mad about the university they went to not making some random list 😂
Yeah agree, absolutely embarassing, every single ranking list out there ranks them differently. There are so many metrics that can be used to decide what uni is "better" than the other. And all of these arseholes talking about this American pronouncing things wrong when the majority of these people would completely butcher the pronunciation of foreign names even after hearing them said correctly.
Loughborough is pronounced "Luffbora" Warwick is pronounced "Warrick".
Let's just be glad that there's no uni in Worcestershire.
What have you got against Bath sir???
Being good at sports doesn't make a university a good one. It makes them a money maker for the school and does little for the student's careers outside of building relationships with other students.
Uni of Manchester from 1800s left the chat
Actually in correct times list Manchester is in 8th place. This list is all the wrong!

@gatofruit you got the joke pal?
Ye, went to university of St Andrews, scored a merit, teaching was shit, and am still working at a restaurant!! Don't trust rankings ppl
It's painful to hear the pronunciation.
Out of the 5-6 rankings commonly used by British and international students only 1 of them puts st andrews as number 1 (the rest sometimes don't even put them in the top 10)
Using that 1 ranking for your list is a bit odd. (I don't think any student currently applying or employer would ever consider St Andrews to be better than oxbridge, UCL or LSE)
Actually, there's only 3 domestic rankings in the UK - Sunday Times, Guardian and THE. All three of these rank St Andrews at the top this year. Also, St Andrews far outranks UCL and LSE on graduate salary/employment
@@jacobherbert8 That's just now true.
Times: Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Edinburgh, kings, LSE. St Andrews nowhere to be seen (this one is the most used of the 3 local rankings)
The guardian (the one that put St Andrews at first): They put aberdeen above edinburgh so I wouldn't trust anything that comes from them (There's certain things that you just can't convince me of and edinburgh being the worst of Scotlands 4 ancient universities is 1 of them)
CUG: They put St Andrews at 4th which is respectable but that's a shot up from where they usually are so I would expect them to drop back down to normal levels next year. (i.e. outside of the top 5 and maybe 10)
Now for the international rankings:
QS: St Andrews comes in at a respectable 16th place and an even more impressive 95th globally
Shanghai ARWU: St Andrews makes it to the top 30, but they don't make it into the global top 300 in this one
So yeah, St Andrews does well on CUG (usually within the top 10) but is only ever first on the guardian. That still shows they're brilliant as with the guardians specific set of criteria they do in fact come in first, but overall you would be crazy to think that it justifies saying that they're better than oxford, cambridge, Imperial, UCL or LSE (which are always top 5 no matter what the criteria are)
I will also say that, due to it being a smaller uni, it is just as competitive as oxbridge/LSE/Imperial so it also has that going for it.
pronouncing UK place names is hard
He got the Saint in Saint Andrews wrong. I feel anyone defending him needs to know this, even a month on.
Obviously Oxford & Cambridge on a cv look more prestigious than others. Unless you want to become a Doctor, a lawyer or a Mathematician.

Its the 3rd oldest uni in the UK and definitely competitive with Oxbridge and US Ivy Leagues. Basically its Scottish Oxbridge. Probably havent heard about it because its quite small with only around 10k students
Well, St Andrews was only founded in 1413. Some might say 611 years is not long enough to become well known. Sometimes, it's better to say nothing so as to avoid proving how stupid you are.

So now you know where to get your degree in gender studies and modern interpretative dance. Don't forget the compulsory nose ring though.
Borrow 40 grand and then watch the amount grow as you pay off less than the interest. So that it turns into 50 even though you paid monthly. University should be free.
I never went but I manage a lot of people that did and have degrees and they all have the same story.
Wdym by all have the same story out of curiosity?
@@jyuko9508 that they are working in jobs that don't require a degree and have 50'000 debt that grows yearly. They say they are 3-5 years behind in the job ladder and when they passed their degree they were competing against hundreds of people with the same qualifications.
Grad required sectors pool of people far outweighs the jobs available.
@@ImmersiveGamer83 That makes sense. Nowadays degrees are the standard, so there is a real need to differentiate yourself with extracurricular activities / internships. On the debt side of it, it shouldn't be too bad considering the repayment amounts are fairly tame, it doesn't affect credit score, and is wiped after 30 odd years. It definitely disproportionately affects people who are in lower paying jobs. The smaller repayments due to lower salaries means that, although lower per month, you pay back more in the long term. It is a graduate tax and it is pretty awful when there is no need for it.
