- Happy 20th anniversary to our beloved The Getaway! This documentary is something that I've always wanted to make and as such has been years in the preparation and making. The initial plan was to create a full-length and in-depth documentary, however I've decided to take the additional time and release separate videos in the future focusing on individual chapters instead, such as the vehicles.
I want to thank Alex Carlyle, Ben Harvey, Chun Wah Kong, David Ramsbottom, Ian Wood, Jonny Severn, Laurent Benadiba, Mike Rouse, Ricky Hards, Simon Wood and many other ex-Team Soho and Sony London developers for taking the time to reply to my questions and sending materials that have been extensively used for researching the game and shown in the documentary.
Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances I had to resort to AI generate the narrator voice using uberduck.ai's Tom Henderson AI model. As such the pronunciations can be pretty bad, so I'll add subtitles shortly.

Fantastic video, I've never seen the super early version of the 'Simon says' cutscene before. Interesting to know that the decision to make Ricky Hards look older came later.

Awesome, I wonder what some of the cast members are up to these days. Ricky Hards nailed the role, Charlie Jolson is one of the best villains ever created in a video game.

Whats more impressive they managed this with floppy discs and w/o modern tech meaning no google street view / 3d etc at that time. This was amazing.
Legendary game that really needs to be remastered for newer consoles
wow 20 years since this masterpiese was relised jeasus that ages ago now i wonder what if they actully made it now knowing there no gta coming out or anything like that a game like this could be perfect especally with modern tech and modern cars too just see that would be insaine too wonder what the main actors and actresses are doing nowadays. well reserched aswell must of took you ages to do all this now all cars can be re enabled tbh now the time to bring this back and give us what we been waiting since 2004 a new getaway game chears racing freak and keep up the brill work you fully deseve it
You might be interested to know how great the Japanese version of the game is. They fully subtitled the entire game, of course most of the slang had to be changed but the emotion is still there! They even included the map of London, fully translated! For a type of game that does not do well in the Japanese market they really put the effort in! The sequel even came out here too!
Actually the Japanese and Korean (very hard to find physical copy of!) versions are regarded by the developers as the best versions as they've received more updates and fixes. So far, I've only had the chance to acquire a physical copy of the Japanese release a few years ago. Glad you enjoyed it!

You should be able to redo the narration in this video... so it won't sound cheap. Plus, I hate that the Dodge Caravan was scrapped from the final cut. But this game was amazing. Greets from New Jersey.

I remember as a young kid growing up in Portugal playing this game, and wanting to go to London to meet Don Kembry and Joe Rice. I was such a huge fan ahah

Brilliant video with unseen footage! This game truly was a masterpiece. In my honest opinion one of the best games ever made. The storyline, characters, making of London, gaining all the copyrights to make it as realistic as possible. The lock stock g style. The work that went into it was enormous but was worth every bit of graft behind it. Truly a creation of passionate talent. We will never have another game like it.

Love this video, I've only just come across it. The background music is a little annoying but its very informative. I spent so much time on this game and always wanted there to be an updated version brought out on the PS4 etc. The true to life mapping and vehicles is what makes this game one of the best ever made. I'd love to sit and talk to some of the people involved.
Shame bmw couldnt get the stick out their ass and allow their cars in the game. Even lexus joined the fun
I don't mind having make a new Getaway 3 and have cast of 1 and 2 in the 3rd
They need to do a third version of the game and include all of London and surrounds including Heathrow airport etc
