Not sure if Megaprojects would be the right channel for it but hearing more about the period directly after the fall of the Soviet Union up to Russia how it is today would be very interesting.
Not a bad idea considering there’s a Megaprojects video on the fall
I feel like trying to switch a government and economy while maintaining your countries borders would qualify as a mega project.
@@SEAZNDragon which fall? The Soviet fall or the current fall? Both are interesting

I can not BELIEVE Simon is launching ANOTHER channel.
*immediately goes and subscribed to Warographics*
I'm starting to believe he's an AI + CGI
@@FarfettilLejl Simon is the new Max Headroom
you might need to do a part 2 soon Simon
😆 nailed it 🍻
Lets hope for the best.
Doubtful
Kinda seems like Ukraine became the embodiment of Grigori Rasputin, may not need that part 2 after all
Doubt
Ivan III was Ivan IV's *grandfather* and you know it, Simon. Also, it was Ivan III who got the idea of turning Moscow into a "third Rome", though his successors did most of the work on it.
Simon is now the Imperialist creator, taking over every genre, one channel at a time. Also, great video.
All hail Simon!
Yes i see this dude everywhere. Starting to suspect he is very advanced AI or sum.
Yes! Another please! And each "scene" could be its own video afterwards. Just further and furter indepth an nuances. Do it for every civilization up to date! You're great at these, Love to see them!
Awesome video once again Simon. I would sure enjoy seeing you do a video on the Soviet Empire
But the USSR is not an empire.
@weder2001 Maxim Yes it was. Also, Socialism uses imperialism to grow and bring people under its control. Cope.
At this rate Simon should start a channel called Channelographics to discuss about the history of his channels
Ivan lV was not the son of Ivan lll, he was his grandson through his father Vasily lll who died when he was young leading to a rather traumatizing (and recurring theme) of rebellious Boyars (nobles) with brutal murder the entire time and external threats
Everyone fogets Vasily III, because he was meaningless. His fahter and son were his greatest success.
@@Boyar300AV Sounds like Prince Fredrick between Kings George II and III.
Yes! Do the USSR!
Also maybe would you consider doing a two-part video on the French Empire? One on the ancien-regime colonial empire until the Revolution/Napoleonic Wars and the second on the Second French Empire from the conquest of Algeria to the wars of decolonization and the Suez Crisis?
Thanks, and love the content!
Simon missed several awesome Russian facts. After Peter the great modernized russia, he spent years living in Europe travelling and working blue collar jobs, with nobody in Europe or Russia knowing any better. Catherine the great wasnt necessarily a Romanov... One of the greatest Russian leaders married into the Romanov family. One of the Romanovs just left the throne, and disappeared, with rumors of having lived in a monastery in another country. I don't know why Simon says the title changed. The leader of the empire was always called the Tsar. Maybe the official title changed, but down to Nick 2, he was called the Tsar.
I correct you: BEFORE Peter the great modernized russia, he spent years living in Europe travelling and working blue collar jobs,....
This is a fantastic summary of Russia’s history. As a Dutch citizen I was surprised about the possibility their flag was modeled after ours. Lots of things I learned and I intend to watch it again to really get a good grasp. Thank you sir!
Real history is way more interesting. Official history been rewritten piece by piece before 18th century. Ivan terrible wasn't terrible at all. That's what Western sources are saying, because he made Russia great and very advance.
You're in over head (again) with this one.
Recommend: 'The Gulag Archepelago'; Solzhenitsyn.
Amazing, do every empire, we're all going to watch it
What an amazing telling. Thank you Simon and team
Great video, as always! Would love a follow that picks up after this 🙂
A masterful condensation of seven centuries of a history which, once again, rhymes. Great work!
I have a question.
When is UA-cam going to just change it's name to The Simon Whistler Projects Collection. ?
I tease, your work is great and there is a reason you keep growing. Keep it up!
Ivan IV was grandson of Ivan the III, you made a mistake.
How many youtube channels do Simon need?
Simon: Yes.
Yes please continue the story
Thank you for another excellent video! Would like to see a video on the rise and fall of USSR also! Thanks!
Very fascinating.
Literally every video Simon begins with: "We are starting a new channel.."
The man is a machine
Yup. Part 2 from then till now. Please
I had a theory but now I’m far more certain. “Simon” has to be an AI. Nobody can put out videos of this sort of quality in this volume on so many channels and at the same time be human.
Not really? All he has to do is talk. He has multiple writers and editors to churn out the actual content.
@@FNLNFNLN hi, I wasn’t being serious. I don’t actually think he is an AI. I was being somewhat hyperbolic, if you will.
Simon I would be interesting in hearing more about the other 5 year plans what Stalin did the first video you did was very interesting can you do more please. great video as always
That was really interesting. Thank you. Would definitely watch the Soviet video if you make it.
Holy Crap Simon!!! There is a link to that other video!!! I can't believe it. You didn't do it though did ya? You finally get an official link maker on the payroll? lol. I have already seen the video, but I'm going to watch it again just cause there's a link!
You should do this quick empire breakdown of all the empires
What I've learned after hundreds of hours of history documentary UA-cam rabbit holes is that Sunday just seems like a really good day to stay inside. Maybe watch Netflix, do some chores, and wait to see how the rest of the day shakes out until Monday morning.
Wow. How many channels is this now. Can’t imagine managing all of them and getting content for them all
It actually surprised me that Russians really don't like Moscow. Especially those from St Petersburg.
Why it’s like most conservatives don’t like Washington dc
Thank you for this Simon! This a great video, considering current events. I have been trying to (quickly) learn more about Russian and Ukrainian historically significant and meaningful events, as I have recently been discovering my family's Ukranian heritage. The history, of both of these countries, are closely tied together, so it is hard to discuss one country without discussing the other. On top of that, the boundaries of the area in Ukraine that my ancestors were from, have changed so many times since 1900. I would enjoy a video from you, about the history of Ukraine that includes how the borders have changed over the centuries, and the impact that Ukraine has had to the world due to it's history, culture, and exports. I always enjoy watching and listening to your various channels- thanks again, Simon!
An Idea for a Mega project: The first aerial circumnavigation of the world. I did a some digging and found little. That was absolutely one of the most epic adventures ive ever heard about
There’s a film about it with Jackie Chan in

I'd be up for a part 2 covering the Soviet period
You should definitely do the Soviet Empire! You should also do the Roman Empire (both East and West) and the Mongols, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, etc!
He did the Spanish empire already.
Your video about the Russian Empire is a information and useful. Megaprojects provides important unevaluable and knowable information. Well done keep it up this work.
Simon has been doing this interesting videos for years. But FINALLY got into my favorite topic🙌🏻🥺🥺🥺🥺
WAR!
I’m a simple man I see a video or channel with Simon and I instantly subscribe 🤷🏾♂️
he is quite biased and knows nothing about the great tzardom
Thank you, Simon! Yes please, megaproject Soviet Empire. Also, what about building of St. Petersburg ?
These videos is the thing we need
This guy is gonna be hosting every channel on UA-cam soon
I am most pleasantly surprised by the evolution of this channel from the world of building projects, which to be honest, I hated, to covering topics like this. These are handled quite well and are much more informative than your Warographics channel. Keep it going, and perhaps put some your people from here over to Warographics to tighten it up a bit.
There is never a link to the video of The Rise And Fall Of The British Empire. You've mentioned it in several videos but it's not there. Working on making it?
Good documentary, covering some 700 years of history in 20 minutes! Nice one!
Somehow he "forgot" to tell you how and WHERE Russia was created...
Thank you .
🐺
Great summary! I was surprised you didn’t mention Anastasia, as it’s the most iconic Russian-focused story I can think of in the west.
mention what?
All the Romanov children had very rich personalities, and they are each an exciting story in themselves.
Anastasia was a wild one. She was so mischievous that some people called her "evil" and even "a terrorist". She was very much a tomboy. She never cried, and didn't even like massages. She was also good at acting, miming and doing tricks with her dogs, which would often amuse the guards during their captivity. Yurovsky, who ended up personally murdering Nicholas, Anastasia and 3 of the other children, liked her. He even liked Nicholas a bit, actually. (This is from his own memoirs). Very sad that it ended like it did.
Megaproject Idea; have you thought of doing a video on the Tennessee Valley Authority?
Both empire projects please
You should do something on the little known Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Because both are useless
“Tax on long beards” rub’s beard
Dropping the John Wick vs. The Entire Russian Mob bit was pure pop culture genius!
Man. Watching Blaze and Casual Criminalist Simon then this is like 2 different people. I like both of them, but it’s a shift to be sure.
Thank you so much for not artificially linking Muscovy with Kyivan Rus. Like Peter Ist did.
Those who study history are forever doomed to watch others who don't, repeating the mistakes
Most in power know the history they just want the public to forget about it.
Notification Squad! :)
Solviet video next please, i was getting into South American history, but clearly Russian has become flavour of the month and i am on board with learning that.
My favorite quote ever, “history doesn’t repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme.”
I look forward to part 2 to present day.
I'm not British, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say this, but I would describe the way you insert humor in such a deadpan manner as "cheeky"
Yus. History absolutely, definitely, never repeats itself...
Cmon Simon, we need a Biographics on Alexander I please. I only asked over two years ago!!
Do the 2nd pacific squadron please!
I love this man but how many UA-cam channels do you need😭😭😭😭
Damn Simon you're a busy man you got like a dozen channels now? Guess I got enough to watch I can cancel my Netflix subscription lol.
Yes, a similar video on the Soviet Empire would be great!
Considering how complicated and convoluted Russian and the Romanov family history actually are, well done Simon and team!
All hail Simon's you tube empire!!
"Bloody Sunday"...is that where U2 got the idea for the song...I wonder.
Timely.
Could be amazing if you would cover the stratolaunch the worlds biggest airplane 🙏🏽
The reason the guards at Ipatiev used their gun butts and bayonettes is because of those jewels they had sewn into their clothes. The guards had been instructed to shoot in the hearts, with a bullet in the head afterwards to make sure. But those diamonds essentially acted like a bulletproof vest. Given the intense stress and excitement of the moment, the guards panicked and began physically attacking the tsar and his family.
The guards were also drunk as hell and there are at least some reports that at least one of their intended victims survived long enough to make it onto the ‘drag ‘em away’ plank before moaning and getting bayonetted again.
Good video 👍
My dad's family escaped with their lives.... the Czarina gave the members of the household her jewelry so that they could sell off the gems and get to safety.... I have the broach with the paste replacements of the jewels.... I remember my grandmother, she was mad about something my dad said and told him: "we are not peasants, we are the elite"!! As a child I did not understand, but my mom explained that grandma just missed her old life...
We don't need short summary of russian history, we need a biographics video on every russian tsar!

Can you make a video about the peterhof palace?
Is it possible anyone has compiled all the lessons from history into a project to create an algorithm that first, seeks to preserve existing regimes and second, collapse competing regimes? If there’s such a project it’s certainly worthy of a Megaproject episode!
No. Because we don’t live in a movie

Some of the maps were inaccurate regarding Russia's western border and Finland, but the comment was deleted because a swedish person, who talked about the language influence in eastern and western Finland was born with a name that is not accepted by youtube.
What?
You definitely need 37 more channels.
Yes please do a video on the Soviets next.
when talking about rasputin, you missed the opportunity to mention that slapping disco track
I enjoy Simon's presentation, but I would have preferred this one to be a bit more nuanced for such a complicated subject. For one thing, Nicholas' reign was not entirely negative. During this time there was quite a bit of technical innovations and the beginning of a rising middle class. After the 1905 revolution Russia experienced freedom of the press and workers' rights to unionize. The Russians were a whole lot freer than they were after the events of 1917. Had it not been for WWI, Russia would have probably developed into a mature constitutional monarchy.
Agreed, a lot of the bad press surrounding Nicholas is due to communist propaganda. That's not to say Nicholas or his regime were good, but the one which succeeded it was much worse.
Doubtful, especially since he was gutlessly subservient to his autocratic wife. Marrying Alix of Hesse was the dumbest thing he ever did.
@@pyromania1018 Yeah, his wife certainly did not help things, still less autocratic than Stalin though.
Yeah it's a good summary, but the Russians have always had a penchant for espionage and paranoia about being infiltrated themselves. This goes back to the practices of the Mongols and other nomadic invaders. Those early days of being constantly infiltrated and undermined from within set a tone which echoes all through history (and still does even now). It also kicked off the nationalities issue, another perennial theme in Russian history which is still in the news.
The other incident which needed at least a little more detail was Bloody Sunday, and especially the role of political extremists in hijacking the protest as a way of destroying the moderate reformers, discrediting the Czar, and radicalizing the general public. That moment really captured the character of Russian politics. I think it would have helped people understand the 1917 revolution and the civil war which followed it, and how Soviet/Russian politics have been played ever since. It would make how Vladimir Putin operates make more sense as well.
Overall a good basic review of the bullet points.
UA-cam needs to put "are you a robot?" and "Is this simons next channel?" questions on to prevent the onslaught of channels. I get that simon reads wikipedias dramatically for one or two companies but this is a dozen chanels!! Does simon do these channels overseas to get better tax rates?
Speaking of Bloody Sunday, maybe do one on the troubles.
You should do a video about the Swedish empire also

I think you skipped who Catherine was to Peter (I know someone here will likely mention it, however in the video I rewinded it and didn’t hear if she was related to Peter, if so how...) Thank you for the video, very valuable content 🙌
Catherine the Great was a Prussian princess who married Peter's grandson Peter III but he was overthrown and she became the empress.
