SWAHILI BEEF PILAU | EASY NO FAIL RECIPE

  • Follow my step by guide to make Beef pilau.
    Ingredients:
    300 gms beef; cubed (you can use mutton instead if you prefer)
    2 cups of rice
    4-5 cups of water
    1 1/2 onions; diced
    1-2 potatoes, peel then cut
    1 tsp ground cumin
    1 tsp garam masala
    3 cinnamon sticks
    2 tsp whole cumin seeds
    5 cloves
    4 cardamom pods; split open
    1/2 tsp black peppercorns
    2 cloves of garlic
    coriander to garnish
    ghee

    Hi, I used to live in Africa (Nigeria and Ghana mostly) but I also travelled extensively in the East. I love cooking and spend so much time pining after the amazing dishes I used to eat. I just discovered your channel and it's an absolute goldmine, thanks so much !!

    Hi Vanessa, thanks for the lovely video. I'm originally from the coastal town of Mombasa in Kenya, but living abroad. I have cooked pilau so many times, but today I learnt something new. I always boiled my beef or chicken with plain water and salt. I will try your method with the mix of onions, tomatoes & ginger for the broth. I will soon give you a feed back. Nice work 👍👌ps: I always cook the rice half way, then cover with foil and put it in the oven (Warm air) 120°c for a few minutes. Please advise on covering the Pot with a wet cloth. I have never tried this

    Vanessa, Leo tunapika pilau but I am gonna substitute with Chicken or Mbuzi since I don't eat nyama🐂🐂. Then I will wash it down with a nice Bourdacios Wine🍷🍷

    Vanessa. My pilau is always lumpy. I use the 2.1 rule mostly. But I just never get any luck with the pilau 'moja moja' help. Which rice should I use

      I usually go for long grain basmati. Do you soak the rice before hand?

    In the ingredient list you say 1.5 onions but in the video you say one onion in the meat and water mixture; then 1.5 onion sauté. Also the list of ingredients says 2 cloves garlic but in the video you say one clove of garlic. Can you please clarify?

      And once u put the meat in the water.. do u bring it to a boil and then reduce heat? Or do u put it in once the water is boiling and then reduce it or keep the temperature? how exactly do u do it because that’s kind of missing in the video 😂
