A lady who understands the true value of waru and thufu. Mpaka thufu inaitwa liquid gold.My fellow kikuyu country men nawaletea bibi. Swahili girl mwenyewe. However it must be so sad to watch this as you eat ugali from last night na githeri ya kupima :-)
That was a totally new method. Thanks for the tutorial 😊. Learning new things everytime.

Hi Vanessa, thanks for the lovely video. I'm originally from the coastal town of Mombasa in Kenya, but living abroad. I have cooked pilau so many times, but today I learnt something new. I always boiled my beef or chicken with plain water and salt. I will try your method with the mix of onions, tomatoes & ginger for the broth. I will soon give you a feed back. Nice work 👍👌ps: I always cook the rice half way, then cover with foil and put it in the oven (Warm air) 120°c for a few minutes. Please advise on covering the Pot with a wet cloth. I have never tried this
From Mombasa too! I think both ways work, it’s just so you bring steam to the mix
This is my go-to recipe every time we ask leo tunapika? We have to have beef pilau every week!I love how it turns out! Thanks for sharing.
pilau and a good chilli on the side....yuuuum!

Hello, first of all thank you so much for the recipe, seems yummy. I can't seem to find pulao spice where I live, could you please tell me what is the mix made of, so I could try to look for the ingredients separately. Thank you once again.
Asante sana!

Terrence Orina yes! Haya so weekend plan pilau right?!
Haha yes to ease me into the week
Wah!! Yaani!!! You’re my go-to Swahili dishes ‘UA-camr’. Absolutely love the simplicity of preparation and actual cooking. Umezijulia kweli dada🙌🏾
Wini N thank you thank you 🙏 kujaribu tu
Vanessa, Leo tunapika pilau but I am gonna substitute with Chicken or Mbuzi since I don't eat nyama🐂🐂. Then I will wash it down with a nice Bourdacios Wine🍷🍷
🤤 enjoy!
How many servings is this ? Cant wait to try but need the servings in your recipe
Vanessa. My pilau is always lumpy. I use the 2.1 rule mostly. But I just never get any luck with the pilau 'moja moja' help. Which rice should I use
I usually go for long grain basmati. Do you soak the rice before hand?
@@swahilifood I just recently tried out the basmati I've never tried soaking it. I'll do that tonight and see the outcome.
Is there a different flavor if we use sliced onions or roughly chopped onions and finely diced onions?
Not really
Napika hiv kesho Eid inshallah
❤️❤️
In the ingredient list you say 1.5 onions but in the video you say one onion in the meat and water mixture; then 1.5 onion sauté. Also the list of ingredients says 2 cloves garlic but in the video you say one clove of garlic. Can you please clarify?
I think ill break it down in the description box 😘 that way its easier to understand
🤣🤣🤣🤣 how you boiled the meat 🙌🙌🙌🙌... Pure gold liquid(broth)
Looks super yummy!!!Amma make this with mbuzi...new subbie😝
Njesh Kymani i looove it with mbuzi!!!! These kids of mine are too white 😆 Beef peke yake and no fat on it, mchew sacrilege!
swahili food Mbuzi is my fav meat 😋They prob can’t stand the gamey taste lol....Nakuwatch kutoka LA😜
Njesh Kymani oh wow!
swahili food 👏👏👏👏👏👍
And request can I get some sandwiches recipes please. Non veg
will add it do the list of videos to make ;)
Agreed.. Hii pilau haiwezi fail...
Thank you 😘
How long do u usually soak the rice in water for?
And once u put the meat in the water.. do u bring it to a boil and then reduce heat? Or do u put it in once the water is boiling and then reduce it or keep the temperature? how exactly do u do it because that’s kind of missing in the video 😂
15-20 min
I bring the water to a boil with the meat in it ☺️
When the waters boiling, reduce the heat and let the meat cook
Swahili Food sawa thank u so much! I did it right then 😊 I’m so excited it smells just like I can remember it 😭🥰
THAAAAAANK YOUUUUUU ❤️❤️
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
🤗🤗🤗
Are you Swahili though
No I’m not
Does it matter though? Read up about me on my blog to understand how I know about Swahili cuisine.
Then atleast you could have confirm first with a Swahili to get the correct procedure
@@annuzamo1586 and who told you this is not an original recipe? Tafadhali mambo hayo hayahitajiki hapa
The only complain I have in this video is the volume. Even when its full on my phone .. It's still very very very low. And that annoying.
Pilau bila kachumbari halijatimia
kachumbari lazima iwe hapo
The only thing is that I over salted the pilau.
Woi pole
No ma’am ...
Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it 😄
