I wish you weren't half a world away -- I would love to come shadow you for a few weeks. I have yet to find a local trimmer that just does barefoot -- their primary focus is always shoes and they do a little of the barefoot stuff on the side. It ends up being a pasture trim with a sloppy bevel -- that's not the same as a true barefoot trim. There are questions I've had for years that I can't find answers for -- it's just researching what I can and then trial and error. Working with horse feet though, I try to avoid the error at all costs.
Do you use the grinder to cut the hoof? Trying to make life easier for my partner. He’s getting on a bit and using the nippers is getting hard for him.
I use the grinder to grind the hoof down but only if the horse is ok with it. I have found most horses are ok but some will have nothing to do with it. I have only ever used it. to cut the hoof on a couple of occasions and those animls were sedated or anaesthetised (Mamoth Donkey & Clydesdale Stallion) requiring extreme caution and I used a Power Hacksaw Disc. I have used many different discs and ways of trimming and over the past couple of years settled on the PFERD austechsaw.com.au/cc-grind-strong-125-sg-steel/64181125 The grinder is many times quicker and on many occasions easier on the horse & trimmer with hard hooves and mini horses. The grinder weighs 3kg. I trimmed 5 of my horses the other day in an hour and a bit, 2 with nippers & 3 with the grinder
Wind sucker? Same thing we call cribber I assume?

using a grinder is SO much easier than chipping away with the other tools...
