Once upon a time I worked in a little country music station in Dothan, Alabama...WAGF. Dolly Parton was going to perform and a guy opened for her. I got to interview him...it was Roger Miller just months before he did "King of the Road" Strange but very affable fellow he was. I'm an old geezer now and I still like him.
I remember Marty Robbins saying on a radio programme how highly he regarded Roger Miller's classic country ballads and he wouldn't have been a bad judge would he?!
Oh Man - Roger wrote it an' a nice delivery on this cut! Love that phrasing, Roger. Just great. And Larry "Wimpy" Sasser on steel, Hoot Hester on fiddle an' Fred Newell on guitar, plus the rest of the Nashville Now band (which was a killer outfit all the way around). This is the real deal.
fABULOUS ,the people who voted thumbs down wouldn't know a great song or singer if they heard one. I bet they are young because today's music is rubbish.
My Lord what talent, Roger Miller will stand the test of time in anyone's music collection. The shear elegance of his lyrics and storyboard pictures it paints have rarely been matched. His life may have been short in comparison but his music is timeless. Check him singing the second part harmony on the original with Ray Price who was in his prime singing this young kid's song. Roger looks as though he just got out of short pants. Thanks for sharing this wonderful memory. Paul O
Great version. Many good ones out there, including, Emmylou with Rodney Crowell Austin City Limits, Steve Fishell on pedal steel. Very good. Here it s the young Hoot Hester on fiddle. Imagine. Pedal steel player awesome. mosrite60
There ain’t nothing more country than this,I used to love singing it live myself ❤️
Awesome Singer Songwriter
One word to describe Roger Miller...........GENIUS!
This IS REAL COUNTRY MUSIC!!
TRASHVILLE SHOULD take notice. That POOP they play today= POP MUSIC
Truly a GREAT Performance by one of the GREATS!
The first multiple country crossover artist. Terrific writer, performer, and unappreciated fiddler.
Incomparable. :-)

Never been a better country band (IMO) than the guys Ralph Emory brought in for the Nashville Now Show. That was back when country music was REAL.
Such great music.
I didn't realize he hosted shows back then. That's totally cool.

Roger Miller wrote lots of good songs, Little Boy Trains, plus so more many.
He sings that song so well... you'd think he wrote it. (hehehehe)
;-)
They looked like they all enjoyed playing on that song
Not enough humor in music anymore but Roger provided his share!
little lady you're so beautiful in your little picture
Hey Wesley Wolf, this one would have been fun!!
Great version. That tempo is just about where this song sits in my head . . . which it has been quite a bit, lately. (At least it's a good one.)
Roger's first hit song he wrote it for Ray Price and sang backup on it.
a tip: you can watch movies on Flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Daxton Raiden Yup, I've been watching on flixzone for since november myself :)
@Daxton Raiden definitely, have been using Flixzone for years myself =)

mosrite60 Yes,I really like the Emmylou and Rodney version. The Austin C. L. one you cite is the best of their live versions on you tube.
This is the first time I have seen him sing a serious song. I liked it.
You ought to check out "King of the Road"
Husbands and Wives.
Little Green Apples
You need to hear him sing When two Worlds Collide.one of his best.
You wrote it Roger, but it was a smart move to let Ray Price record it.
Love this song, I just wish there was a better version online : (
Johnny Rodriguez does a great version of this song!!
One of the best versions of this great song is by Patti Page.
ought to be he wrote it
genius
@packingten it's not quite the same, but it illustrates your point- look up pop country really sucks by hank III
Whoever disliked this.....man I wouldnt want to be you if you met me in a dark alley...
This is bullshit and you can meet me anywhere you like.
Raycher anywhere? Let's meet in Stockholm
Buy me tickets from Tbilisi, Georgia and I'm on my way, I promise.
Lord Geno lol
Thanks for a wonderful choice of Roger Miller Clip. Any idea which decade it dates from? Is it 80s?
Late 80s or early 90s. Roger passed away not too long after that. Way too young. Such a great loss for true traditional county.
i remember Roger Miller, big in the 50s
Amazing talent but I wish they had a better sound man that night.
No volume, very low
