I made my own from the inside of an old hard disk drive. Works very well and was free. Great series, would love to see more on permanent slide preparation.

I tried to make one by mounting a CD-ROM disk on a fidget spinner. This also worked, but was a bit wobbly.

Thanks for sharing your video I really enjoy them. I have been obsessed with a microscope since I got one at age 10. I later became a duel A Water And Wastewater operator and worked a lot with micro-organisms throughout my 40 year career.

The art joke was so surprising it was hilarious. Also I didn't know this table existed, thanks for the video!

I used grommet stickers for document hole reinforcement and stack about five high. Takes about a minute

A ringing table is also useful in making your own darkfield filter stops - by painting an opaque centre onto a plain glass filter. With the ringing table it is easier to produce a range of disc sizes to suit different objectives.

    Hi Oliver,
Can it work with pond water ? The idea would be to imitate a Petri dish (which you can only observe with an inverted/stereomicroscope) so everything is free to move, not pinned by a cover glass.

Not tried it but maybe possible if the ring is tall enough. In any case the ring should prevent water from flowing off. I would, however, rather use slides with an indentation for this purpose, as due to the concave nature of the indentation, the water is concentrated into the center. These slides are more expensive, however. I suggest the following reading for "micro aquaria": www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artoct09/wd-microaquaria2.html

Great Video. Where did you purchase the spinner?

That's cool! What kind of longevity would you expect to get from a wet mount using this method?

    • @Microbehunter

Wet mounts do not store long. When water is present then biological activity can go on (decomposition etc) and maybe a few days.

Hi Oliver. Where can I get one of these. Google, Amazon & eBay don't show any results when looking for one? Many thanks again.

Very interesting! The slides really look really professional. Besides being round, is there any difference between these coverslips and the common square ones? I found a really huge variation in prices on them, is there any difference in quality?

So far I did not notice a quality difference, but it could be that the mroe expensive ones are more consistent in thickness. There is a variation in cover glass thickness from manufacturing. More expensive cover glasses (round or square) have an extra checking process included, which sorts out those that are too thin and too thick. Round ones are generally comparatively expensive, I found out.

I have been takeing samples of body fluids and seen a look at the sperm and then the urin and then the fluid from the noce and i seen a pattern in the fluid of the noce fluid and it may just be the pattern of the fluid and it looks like the plant that the mosquito lives under. have you seen this, if it is a fungal i have a way to get ride of it. but i just wanted to ask you what you thought. i will be takeing clients for covit 19 and pap tests and will go further then that.
