- Here's my step by step guide to installed the Competition Werkes Chamber Delete on a Svartpilen 401. This is similar to a mid-pipe delete, but the cats are both retained, so you won't get in trouble about them, while also getting a bit more volume from your exhaust system.
I've retained the stock muffler, however you can pair this with a slip-on system, if your budget stretches that far. I went with the chamber delete as, for $250 AUD, it was the best value option I could find, with many slip-on mufflers demanding $800-1000 AUD these days.
Overall this is a fairly easy install as far as tools. The main challenge is getting the collector out due to clearance, including a very tightly fitted mounting rod with tightening bolts on either end. This effectively needs to be forced out from between the two mounting points, and is reused in the installation of the chamber delete, but is easier to get back into place.

I have the Vitpilen 401 and the same chamber delete. This gave me flashbacks, cause the chamber was so freaking hard to remove haha

@@Kosabike Are you having issues getting the old collector out? There's a bar that's wedged into place holding it there, and there's limited clearance to move it around to get it loose.
@@MotoJournoKris no no i try to replace the old colector to put a new exhaust on it actually a have a pre muffler suppresor on my bike but i try to replace the old piece

I bought the Coffman Shorty Pipe tho…it sounds really good.

Is there a reason your exhaust scrape guards off? I like the look of it and have a vit that never goes off-road and considering leaving mine off.
Yea I had a very slow oil leak that was getting caught in that sump guard and haven't put it back on since removing, so I can keep an eye on it. I think you can get away without it, if you're riding just on the road, or just ungraded but smooth roads. The darker patch on the pipe behind the first collector is where the oil hits the exhaust.
Very useful tutorial for those playing the home game. Question: did you torque the bolts to spec? If so, where did you find the specs? The owner manual doesn't contain much info...
I just did it by feel, and then checked a couple of times after rides to be sure nothing was coming loose. I didn't spot any specs for these bolts to be honest, but I would have looked harder if it was a frame bolt or similar.
Did you have any trouble with the gasket between the header and the delete? It's a tight fit and keeps moving on me. Thanks for the vid either way
I did, it took a few attempts to get it aligned and not squashing the gasket and a bit of force. Wasn't the easiest thing and definitely tight.
Hey mate, great vid. I did the install too and have noticed quite a decent loss of the power band in 3rd/4th gears! I think I’ll have to install the chamber again to get that fun back.. I’ve heard of disconnecting the battery and playing with the throttle to reset the ecu but can’t find any info on this
Hmm interesting, I'll have to see if I can notice that. A lot of modern bikes you just leave them idling for extended periods to reset all the adaptives, I think it's the same for the 401. Turn it on, leave it to idle for 15 minutes, without touching the throttle, should do the trick.
@@MotoJournoKris thanks mate, I might give that a go. Some research has come up with having the chamber delete AND slip on might be pushing it. I took the slip on off this morning, albeit it’s super super loud but I did regain that power band back
@@dacostigan Yea it's a fairly big change over the stock system, losing the collector plus a free-er flowing muffler as well, even if the cats remain. What slip-on? If you've got a baffle you can add, that could possibly help.
@@MotoJournoKris it’s a Leo Vince, not sure of the model as it came with the bike. Lv10 maybe? Either way, I’ve decided to put the bread box back in until I decide what to do - I leave for work at 5am 🫨 and it’s just a tad loud to have both.. I tell you what though, putting it back in is a damn site harder than taking it out! I can’t get the header pipe to slide on at all, so annoying!
@@dacostigan I bet! Did you loosen the header to try and make it easier, or is it just the gasket that's making it really hard, I know that took a bit of finagling to get aligned and in place. There's way less room trying to get it back into place.

or can i easily put the orginal chamber in ?
Sounds very hard to get out!
I mean you could do it... but it's probably more hassle than it's worth if you need it in for inspections! Maybe a slip-on would be easier, those you can swap in a couple of minutes, but it's more obvious on the bike...

I’m looking to do this but I keep seeing some people say it messes with the 02 sensor and there was a crush washer that was affected , is this true ?
There's no effect on the O2 sensor itself, you don't move or touch it at all for installation. It could make the bike run a little leaner however at low rpm.
There's two exhaust gaskets one at each end of where it replaces the stock collector. As my bike was relatively new I was able to re-use them, but for older machines or those with more mileage you may want to order replacements just in case, as they do tend to fall apart at a certain point.
Do you know what size the mide pipe delete is, for installing aftermarket slip ons

i just did the same but both my gaskets look terrible and need to replace them and cant find any in New Zealand haha
I was really worried about that, and figured the sooner I did the mod the better chance I had of being able to reuse them! Took a bit of messing around to get everything seated too. You able to order them through a Husqvarna dealer? I can't spot them as available anywhere here in Oz, at least online.

No, I'm just running the bike stock without issue. May be beneficial, as they run lean stock, but not a must from what I've seen so far.
How is the weight difference? Is it lighter than the resonator? Noticeably?
Much much lighter, over two kg is quoted, I forgot to weigh them both off the bike, but I'd certainly say that's true.
Hello, when making this modification, don't you lose torque? Or does the motorcycle suffer any secondary consequences?
Maybe a little bit, but being a pretty rev happy single I'd have said it was minimal in real world conditions, unless you're riding at very low rpm in very high gears to cruise. The mechanical noise of the bike is more noticeable with this change though, interesting enough, I think that's the only other consequence I noticed.
Can you put a side by side exhaust on this bike?
Like an ATV exhaust kinda thing? I think you can generally fit any muffler that physically fits and can be secured in place. Obviously the fit and securing it being the bigger challenges if you're running something generic.
Over the years I've lost my courage to do jobs like this. If I wanted it I'd take it to someone to have it done.
I was feeling a bit that way when I couldn't get the collector out, but I got there in the end. There's definitely some jobs I leave to the professionals, and even minor stuff can be super frustrating when things don't fit, which can really hit your confidence. If you're not sure getting a proper mechanic to do it is a safe bet!

Looking at mods for it, what have you heard about changing the front sproket for a 16tooth for better highway mangement (I'm aussie too and I drive between cbr and syd pretty often)? Also, what was this stock chamber actually for lol? Thanks for everything!
Exhaust design gets pretty techy, so it's possible it's helping tailor pressure for performance. There's two cats in front of it though which also create pressure to help with emissions, while sound restrictions are getting very tight over in Europe, which may come into it too. There's definitely more back-burble on decel with it removed, although that's likely an issue caused by the tune no longer matching the exhaust.
I'd probably see how you feel with the stock gearing, that makes sense as these rev fairly high in general, and if you want a more relaxed highway cruise that can definitely help, and may calm down that revvy feeling a little.

@@jcmcgee1573 Sorry for the slow reply! It could do, but I'd have to test one to see. Some riders do note an improvement, but normally I like to see a dyno chart with a before and after if possible, as that can show some of the improvements people mention, like smoother torque curves etc.
What sliders did you fit?
I ran the Oggy Knobbs to suit a Duke 390, as the install points are the same.
Does it affect the performance?
Not that I've noticed, no better, no worse.
