Pro tip: realistic expectations at whisler are an asset. If u expect anything short of ridiculous lines on a pow day, you will be bummed. Expect the worst and u will never have room for disappointment again in ur brain. You’re welcome ;)
Yesssir! I've never had a bad time. I always compare it to ski touring..... Even in the longest of lines you still will get 5x more downhill elevation and be able to ski steep/sketchy runs that you would need ideal once a year conditions to hit safely in the backcountry!
I’ve been here for a week and I rarely waited more than 5 minutes. Everyone likes to visit resorts on a holiday or weekend and expects the lines to be normal.
It has been a year and a half since this video was released, and only 400 people have decided to leave a like. This makes me sad as I had a great moment watching this and I think you deserve much more attention. You have received a new follower and a like on the video, your content is worth it. I don't usually comment but I thought you should know you're killing it. Thanks for this
Hi James, It’s Mango season here on the Gold Coast, big Fat juicy mangos. “Delicious” Don’t think they’ll allow me to bring one over for you when I arrive next week. I’ll keep my eye out for you, as I would love to try the Hot Mango sauce! Couldn’t help but noticing the mount angle of your Insta 360, did you mount it this way for a reason? I finally got the X3 so can’t wait to try it out. Is the Ice Cave open this season? Keep shredding.
Don't get in trouble at customs... But damn a fresh Mango would hit the spot right now! i have the the 360 cam on the top of my head because I don't like the feeling of it pushing on my forehead/goggles. I also find I can get some footy if someone is skiing behind me. Mainly for comfort. The best POV style view is always when mountain near the brim of the helmet. Ice cave is covered this year unfortunately.
was there for a week at beginning of feb. snowed everyday. i watch your videos wishing i could go back. was just starting the doiuble blacks. nothing to ski at home. its depressing. thanks for letting me live through you bud keep the shredz coming!
Oh man the lines 🧍♂️🧍♂️🧍♂️🧍♂️🧍♂️😭 and the lines ⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️😜 James you should bring a backpackable chair and several bottles of Hot Hot sauce for waiting in line that long, maybe even setup the stove in line 🤷🏼♂️ lol

Looks awesome, but would you have preferred a wider ski compared to these 104’s. I’m just interested to know what kinds of skis I need, because I’m going to ski whistler for a whole season in 24/25!
The 104 is more than enough in any depth of pow. I think 104 is the perfect all round Whistler size ski. Of course, on the deeper days I pull out 115's because I have them, but I'd say stay between the 100-110 range if you only have one ski. It kind of sucks to ride something over 108 width when things get really hard.
@@riseandalpine Nice to know! All though, I am going to get two pairs of skis since I am going to be an instructor. A piste ski and then a wider ski. If I have a piste ski I thought I could go with true pow ski.
Dude after a wild 10 days in whistler including yelling at you on harmony I moved onto other resorts - all I can say is that while whistler reigns supreme, you should check out kicking horse if you haven't. It's sick.
@@riseandalpine Awesome. Thats exactly the 4 mountains I went to. I personally rated them at 1. Kicking Horse 2. Red 3. Whitewater (very close to Red), 4. Revy. The terrain at Kicking horse was just bigger, steeper and better. Trees at whitewater and red were great... but Revy was pretty meh. Looking forward to seeing what you think!
So sweet. Heli didn't go last Monday, so we got to enjoy the 10cm of fresh instead. Not a bad consolation. Looks like you had more fun than we did tho...somehow. 😁 Your energy, your commentary, your salad....so awesome. Back up mid-Feb, need to get some turns in. Also, those enforcers just eat up the crud 🙂
@@riseandalpine Stick a sheet of metal in a ski and all of a sudden, they're awesome. Who knew? Heli didnt go due to weather. They're pretty sensitive about flying into low cloud cover. 🤷♂
You know, as a New Englander, I am forced to take "pride" in my slopes (in so far as what is available is what is available). That said, what I see from these videos is that the best ski day of the year last year in NE is worse than the average ski day I see on these channels out west. Sad... but still fun to ski. It was so fun to have 2 total powder last year out of a total of 30 days on skis. My calculation of your "powder" days is roughly 33%? and that results in the avg "non-powder" day there being effectively like our best powder day here. Conditions under our powder are always hard pack and ice. slidy pow.
Your calculation is pretty accurate. Sometimes it can even lean to 40% pow if you only go on powder days. We're super lucky in the West Coast to get nuked with snow quite frequently.
James, very fun and exciting videos as always. Glad you are having so much fun. I am really looking forward to visiting Whistler in the second week of February. You interested in providing some ski lessons or guided tour ?
Thanks Marko! I'd love to do some guiding but I don't have any extra time this season. Maybe if I go full-time on youtube I can start a small guiding biz next year :).
Gaht dayum, that first lap off 7th was other-worldly. Hope you guys are having a great season out there. Send a few handfulls of that white stuff eastward, eh?
That first lap was sooo nuts! Fingers crossed the boys out east get a little snow gift. It's been brutal for y'all this season... If we can even call it a season :(
No specific approach really. If I'm moving slow/walking I try to avoid them. But skiing over them is fine if ya don't fall. Best bet is to always have a friend close by. I do stay in very populated areas and carry a whistle when skiing alone in the trees!
@@Denizz._ Study a lot of the areas, because I Was told that after 70-80 days per season, it takes about 7 seasons to really know the mountains both Whistler and Blackcomb. For that line he took on 7th heaven, it is called "reservoir trees" and it is skiers right of the main lift line.
