I think this Bromance caught Damon off guard. He wasn't expecting or thinking he would bond with someone he's so comfortable with being alone. Kind of reminds me of Butch and V from Black Dagger Brotherhood.

when Damon goes to the bar and separates a chair (where Alaric always sat) with a glass of bourbon and doesn't allow anyone to sit there saying he's busy there, you realize that that was a true teaching of friendship so unshakable that we let the vampire diaries
I loved their friendship/bromance so much! It was so unexpected, you could even see Damon shocked at how much he began to care for Alaric after a while.

Yeah!! First they ruined Damon and Enzo's friendship then Damon and Alaric's and in the end Damon and Bonnie's. I mean, that's not fair.
True but at least we can make the assumption that they got past it and made up because Alaric’s daughter has Damon’s car in “legacies” and mentions him as her dads friend.
this friendship 100% caught Damon by surprise. As much as he claims to hate Stefan, they have a strong brother bond, and you can see the same kind of bond with Damon & Alaric. it’s crazy how much their friendship grew, & how much they trust each other.
I loved these two so much, their bond was indescribable. I hated it so much when they drifted apart and Ric got so angry at Damon for (almost) nothing in the later seasons. This was a relationship to last, but it just kind of lit itself on fire instead.

One of my favourite Dalaric moments from S3 is when Damon was in trouble or Mason came after him and they called Alaric to come help. He didn't want to do anything but as soon as he heard it was Damon who was in trouble he dropped everything to help his best friend out. Best bromance ever.

Most of Damons Human life has been filled with abuse and neglect from both of his parents, tragedies of war time, betrayal from Stefan, manipulations and lies by Katherine all in his Human life. In his Vampire life he had bad influenzers and encouragers like Sage, Enzo, Will, and a few others while Stefan had little to no abuse or neglect from there Parents did not face the horrors and spoils of wartime nor did he have many bad influenzes in his Vampire life pure pressuring him like Sage, Enzo, And Will
