Every now and then, it's so nice to hear a great guitarist play clean on a jazz box. (9/22/2020 edited to add..) Correction, it's always so nice to hear
josh inspires and enlightens .......this knowledge take you to the nest level. better keep up or step aside ...josh does not fool around....for one thing watch the finess he creates with his right hand ...
Yeah, a little hint of Kenny Burrell and Tal Farlow in that 12-Bar example at the end. Robbin Ford is another contemporary who’s mastered the bridge between straight up blues and jazz blues . JS has a great way of introducing this here!
Man how do I study with you I can play still kinda stuck in the box can do some runs up the neck find it difficult to come back down I do know open chords and some simple bar chords but really ready to move on with soul and blues
Thank you Josh for posting . Great Axe ! Great playing ! P.S. Looks like you are taking advantage of working with Norm's Rare Guitars on this All Guitar Network Channel ? Go man go !
Josh, you should check out Barry Harris' scales of chords theory. ( Major 6th and Minor 6th Diminished etc...) You'd probably really like it. It gives you limitless possibilities. Thanks for the video.
Great lesson from Josh but guys, come on... you're giving him a guitar to play with several cracks on it. I'll gladly rehome this specimen if you want to retire it :-p
All very nice and informative but there isn’t really anything to grab onto, he can say you can do this, do that, but without actually breaking it down and showing us it’s just like saying, look at me play this stuff way better than you ever will!
Just slow down the video and copy each and every chord and start practicing. Once you get the feel, and are confortable with the chord changes and tempo, get back to to the video and try to figure out the phrases and the approach that he uses when he solos on each chord. Is it laborious? Of course it is, but it is also gratifying.
This isn't a beginner or possibly even an intermediate player's video. It just isn't. Its a discussion of concepts. Tab and explaining "Put your fingers here..." is pointless. The skill he's discussing isn't for your hands, but between our ears. Josh has no ego. Only passion for music that I can see. I don't know where you get "look at me" beyond the fact he makes you uncomfortable. Players better than you (and me) do that. It's actually a good thing to be pushed into uncomfortable spots.
You're not listening properly. Or youre a complete novice to theory. Give the man a break. Listen take notes digest then tonnes of practice. Good luck.
This is nice show off, not much more. I understand that teaching guitar on UA-cam is hard but…what’s the purpose of these video if not a simple show off?
Not only a great player but also a great educator and storyteller.
His vocabulary on the guitar is unreal, such a great player
Great communication skills!
"Great job Josh!" I call over my shoulder as I build a bonfire with my guitars.
A whole bunch of talent, 50 years of hard work and a lifetime of musicality. How does he squeeze all of that into his young self?
You can't help but see and feel his passion for what he's teaching.
So much fun to listen and learn.

I learn more from you in five minutes than hours of watching other videos. Thanks!

And, from this, you can also hear the underpinnings of Rockabilly.

Got a good transition chord leading from the I to the V in bar 8 of a standard I-IV-V blues (ie. no ii-V turnaround in bar 9)?
That's about as clear an explanation as I've seen. Excellent presentation we can understand. Thanks.
What Gibson is Josh playing here?
Yes man 👍👍🙂🎸🎸great. Thank you. Greetings from Germany and The Cute Urchins.
Is that a Gibson es175?

Will guitar instructional videos ever be produced that consistently show both hands of the teacher?

She's a beaut', eh? Hell yeah. I'd even give him a couple hundred bucks for that old piece of crap. :)
