I appreciate the clarification on 'snitching'. One case I know of from a few years ago a couple, law abiding neighborhood parents, were harassed because they reported when they found out a neighbor, 28 yrs old, was giving a few kids in the neighborhood alcohol and pills, because they 'snitched'. No, parents will protect children, and why a 28 yr old man would be hanging out with 12 yr old boys, trying to get them intoxicated, is a huge concern any adult should speak up on. That's not snitching but simply being a decent human being with a functioning brain.

Hey Larry I was a correctional officer in a maximum security prison here in Texas for 5 years. And here's the 4 rules of survival I was taught by a good friend and total bad ass named Billy Martin. Rule #1 Reputation is everything ! You have to get a reputation and maintain that reputation. #2 Only punks make threats. If you're going to do something, just do it . People remember actions, not words. #3 You don't disrespect nobody, and you don't take no disrespect from nobody. #4 You're surrounded by predators, so never show pain fear or weakness of any kind. I lived by these rules when I was in prison and still live by them to this day.

in the military we were told once, "to always say "thank you " " to the people making the food, when my parents were visiting and I did that out of normality, they asked "are you just doing that for us" or "do you just do that because you are told to" no, just because I respect anyone anyone who makes my food
I was going through McDonald's drive thru, and I said please and thank you to the very young girl who served me, and my teenage neighbour who was in my car said to me "why were you nice to her?" My reply to him was "it costs nothing to be nice." I think I was the first positive male role model that he ever had, and he was a much nicer guy after knowing me for a few years. He was still a really tough young man who loved to get into fights, but he wasn't the jerk he was when I first met him.

The TOP 10 rules to follow universally, anywhere, are what Larry Lawton just expounded in this video!! AMEN!! Everyone out there needs to listen n follow.......everyday!
I've always said one of the key problems with this world right now is that people don't mind their business in the right situations then stay silent in situations where people should speak up.
That and not understanding other people's lives. Sort of the antithesis, but not. People are still so closed off even in the age of worldwide information sharing.
Nailed it. Pedophilia, child abuse, drug peddling, child sex tourism, child genital mutilation (yes, both sexes, not just girls), corruption cover-ups...the list goes on and on, a lot of people just stand silent and do nothing. But if someone choose a same sex partner, or chooses cannabis instead of antidepressants, or chooses to vape instead of smoke, then it's fingers pointed at them and lots of judgments. As the old saying goes: We play silly games to win silly prizes.
Love listening to you Larry, I’ve never been to jail but you “breathe out wisdom”. These 10 rules make so much sense and should be applied to civvie life too. Thank you for posting.
I'm a retired housing sergeant (Florida D.O.C.) and you are spot on with your list, but I guess this could be covered under respect, other guys bunks and property , I've had to deal with fights over someone visiting a friend and sitting on and messing up someone else's bunk and going through their property. When it comes to hygiene you got guys that take to the extreme, had one get shanked for taking a crap in the shower and not cleaning it up. Most of the time I was fair and decent and gave them space when it came to the petty stuff, however there's always that one special one who makes things hard on everyone in there.
Thanks Mr. Lawton for keeping it real. I know this is a very late comment, however, you told the truth on everything. Been there and done that. Nevada State Prison for 10 years, and I followed your rules, even before I knew of you. 17 years on the streets. You're doing a good thing here! RESPECT!
Hi Larry..tho I've never been locked up...watching your videos has given me reasons that I sure don't want to be..thanks for being a deterrent to crime.✌
I just subscribed. I'm an oldie but a goodie. 74 years young and the only got in trouble for a traffic ticket. However, I was once a musician singer songwriter for the church in the 1970's and got hooked up with the Chaplain at San Quentin Prison in Northern California. I took part in the Sunday Chapel services twice. This was an experience I will never forget. At the end of the service an inmate came to me and showed me my Bible stuck down his pants. How the hell could I tell him not to keep it. He was so honest to show me that he snatched it. I told him to please keep it. He smiled and walked away. God bless this guy. ❤

Larry, I never did a stint, don't ever plan to, and probably won't. But I have a few friends who have, and I enjoy learning about prison culture and "the rules" (cuz ya never really know), and your channel is my favorite on the subject. Good shit man, hope you are living free life to the fullest.
I always thought there was something a little bullshit about the "no snitching" thing, but Larry finally helped me understand it. If you're a criminal and you run to the law, you're basically playing both sides and It makes sense that you're left with everyone against you in the end.
There are different types of ratting, but Larry is hardly an Expert Convict obviously, even though he makes 20 grand a month pretending to be. There’s “dry snitching,” which is even more common and chicken shit than full blown ratting. That’s when you tell something to someone else who is a full blown rat, knowing that THEY will snitch. Snitching is sadly pandemic in the joint. It’s so common in some prisons that there are few if any repercussions for doing it, mainly because the guy getting ratted on gets moved away to another prison than the snitch. And since you can’t shank all the snitches, too many, and since you never really know who the rat is, a Snitch Culture exists.
I lived in a bad area as a teenager. I spent more than a few nights in jail too. Lock-up culture is an extension of street / hood culture. Playground culture for badasses, degenerates, and fuck-ups. The first thing I learned on the playground was NEVER SNITCH. Two things happen if you snitch / go to the authorities with a beef: 1) Nothing: The teachers /cops / gaurds don't give a fuck that some asshole bullied you, stole from you, or raped your punk ass. 2) Loss of respect: The other kids / gang members / inmates will rightly see you as a rat and a pussy. This will cause you more grief than any possible benefit The one rule he left out was "Handle Your Business" If you have a problem with someone, handle it yourself. Like our host did when he smashed his cellies head into the wall. Handle it yourself, and take the consequences like a man. Don't be a pussy. Snitches and pedos aren't hated so much for being snitches and pedos as they are for being cowards. Opportunistic shitbags. Believe it or not, prison and street gang cultures are honor based. It's why they are so violent and unforgiving. I worked as a white collar professional for decades after escaping the 'hood. It was awful. Most motherfuckers in suits wouldn't last a week inside, because they have no sense of honor, and are total pussies who lie like shit. Their word is worthless, and you never know when they'll back-stab you. Everything this guy says comes down to honor and respect. Fucking babies and snitching are about as dishonorable as it gets, inside or out of the joint. Handle your business.
Hey Larry. I just got out after doing two and a half years on a ten year sentence. I’m currently out on parole. One of my personal rules from when I did my time, was to always assume my roommate had something he didn't want the c/o's to know about. So I would keep my property neat and organized, and conduct myself in a manor that the c/o's wouldn't really notice me. In other words, I tried to never give the c/o's a reason to shake my house down.
How about starting these rules starting from elementary school. By the time they reach High School we just might be able to save them from walking thr pipeline down to prison. Great advice.
Thanks Larry for all your wisdom and advice. My dad was in prison when I was in 6th grade till I graduated jr high for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, got blamed by everyone else, judge found out he dropped out of public school which I’m guessing increased his sentence to get his GED. Hearing all that you’ve shared with all of us gives me insight into maybe what my dad probably went through in prison. I don’t know what level of security he was in tho. The people that got my dad involved were co workers trying to steal money from the company they worked for. I wish I had written more letters to my dad when he was in or more phone calls but when he got out he seemed ok at first but then cheated on my mom and left when I started college. I imagine prison can change someone a lot. A lot of my dads side have been to prison but I have not thus far and I hope I never do. Thank you for what you do Larry. Much peace and happiness to you
Don't blame your actions for your Dad's mistakes. HE chose to bounce... no amount of letters or phone calls can be a reason that HE makes HIS choices. I did 12 years, and walked out a New Man... with a Better Plan. You are NOT your Father, nor are you responsible for his choices. Be THE BEST man YOU can be. Pray for your Dad... it will make a difference. Take Care and God Bless.

I was amazed at the number of good people I met in my terms. Rather not meet them there but I did & they were good people, just screwed up & “hand to pay the debt.” We always “policed” our own blocks. We did not want guards in our business & they didn’t want anymore work. We ALL got along .
The sense of community is insane! People trading “cornbread for soup!”. Sharing legal tips and general life advice. It was also sad to see a lot of kids who clearly were given a poor hand in life, don’t know how to cope and end up in legal trouble. God bless you man.
I take my hat off to you Larry. You're always very honest with us and I really appreciate how you never glorify crime or prison. Many of us grew up with the wrong influences and as a result, we thought that crime is cool when it's really not. Thanks for being a positive influence to so many people!
The first rule was kind of hypocritical, calling people "whiners" but ironically his entire youtube channel is dedicated to telling stories of how bad prison was, i like his videos but that just didn't make sense to me lol. And it's not a bad thing, just hypocritical that he thinks talking to other people about bad shit is a burden on others.

I’ve been watching Larry for almost a year, I’ve seen his whole series on gangster redemption a few times, watched his prison food video’s, but one topic I’d like him to touch base more on was how his trial went, what was his initial thought process when he was sentenced, his family’s reaction, his mental state when he was sitting in court during that time.

Hey Larry
I was a correctional officer in a maximum security prison here in Texas for 5 years. And here's the 4 rules of survival I was taught by a good friend and total bad ass named Billy Martin.
Rule #1
Reputation is everything ! You have to get a reputation and maintain that reputation.
#2
Only punks make threats. If you're going to do something, just do it . People remember actions, not words.
#3
You don't disrespect nobody, and you don't take no disrespect from nobody.
#4 You're surrounded by predators, so never show pain fear or weakness of any kind.
I lived by these rules when I was in prison and still live by them to this day.

@@jackraptor1581I never thought expert convict gatekeeping was a thing 😂
I lived in a bad area as a teenager. I spent more than a few nights in jail too. Lock-up culture is an extension of street / hood culture. Playground culture for badasses, degenerates, and fuck-ups. The first thing I learned on the playground was NEVER SNITCH. Two things happen if you snitch / go to the authorities with a beef:
1) Nothing: The teachers /cops / gaurds don't give a fuck that some asshole bullied you, stole from you, or raped your punk ass.
2) Loss of respect: The other kids / gang members / inmates will rightly see you as a rat and a pussy. This will cause you more grief than any possible benefit
The one rule he left out was "Handle Your Business" If you have a problem with someone, handle it yourself.
