Good manners is something that costs you nothing... literally nothing, yet some people act like it's a serious blow to their pride. They think they'll be perceived as weak, but in effect it's a sign of strength (at least in my opinion).

I appreciate the clarification on 'snitching'. One case I know of from a few years ago a couple, law abiding neighborhood parents, were harassed because they reported when they found out a neighbor, 28 yrs old, was giving a few kids in the neighborhood alcohol and pills, because they 'snitched'. No, parents will protect children, and why a 28 yr old man would be hanging out with 12 yr old boys, trying to get them intoxicated, is a huge concern any adult should speak up on. That's not snitching but simply being a decent human being with a functioning brain.

    • @markmcculfor6113
      @markmcculfor6113 2 роки тому +172

Exactly, the rules about snitching don't apply to law abiding citizens. If you see something against the law, report it. We gotta keep our neighborhoods safe and our streets clean.

To me it seems like in some cases, possibly this one, these people are generally just considered losers by their own peers so they hang out with younger people. Not always but when I was 14 or 15 I was also hanging out with 20 year olds, none of who I feel ever tried to take advantage of me.. In certain cases they just may be outcasts

'Harassed', if that piece of shit 28 year old ever made it anywhere behind bars as soon as anyone found out he would be bashing target number one. He'd get the shit kicked out of him so hard you could give him a colonoscopy a week later and it'd still come out clean

    1. Don’t steal
    2. Don’t gamble
    3. Don’t stare
    4. Don’t fraternize with the guards more than basic communication. Prolonged conversation can be perceived by other inmates as you snitching, which leads to…
    5. Don’t be a snitch. You saw nothing.
    6. Don’t sit on other inmates bunks without their permission.
    7. Get a job within the prison. Commissary funds + it makes the days go by faster.
    8. Utilize all free time either in the gym or in the library.
    9. Keep in contact with loved ones as often as you can, through whatever means are available to you.
    10. Don’t go looking for a fight, but if a fight finds you, fight back. Even if you lose, you’ll still be given more respect than just cowering in a ball. Defend yourself.

    Hey Larry
I was a correctional officer in a maximum security prison here in Texas for 5 years. And here's the 4 rules of survival I was taught by a good friend and total bad ass named Billy Martin.
    Rule #1
Reputation is everything ! You have to get a reputation and maintain that reputation.
    #2
Only punks make threats. If you're going to do something, just do it . People remember actions, not words.
    #3
You don't disrespect nobody, and you don't take no disrespect from nobody.
#4 You're surrounded by predators, so never show pain fear or weakness of any kind.
I lived by these rules when I was in prison and still live by them to this day.

However, I was once a musician singer songwriter for the church in the 1970's and got hooked up with the Chaplain at San Quentin Prison in Northern California. I took part in the Sunday Chapel services twice. This was an experience I will never forget. At the end of the service an inmate came to me and showed me my Bible stuck down his pants. How the hell could I tell him not to keep it. He was so honest to show me that he snatched it. I told him to please keep it. He smiled and walked away. God bless this guy. ❤

There are different types of ratting, but Larry is hardly an Expert Convict obviously, even though he makes 20 grand a month pretending to be. There’s “dry snitching,” which is even more common and chicken shit than full blown ratting. That’s when you tell something to someone else who is a full blown rat, knowing that THEY will snitch. Snitching is sadly pandemic in the joint. It’s so common in some prisons that there are few if any repercussions for doing it, mainly because the guy getting ratted on gets moved away to another prison than the snitch. And since you can’t shank all the snitches, too many, and since you never really know who the rat is, a Snitch Culture exists.

I lived in a bad area as a teenager. I spent more than a few nights in jail too. Lock-up culture is an extension of street / hood culture. Playground culture for badasses, degenerates, and fuck-ups. The first thing I learned on the playground was NEVER SNITCH. Two things happen if you snitch / go to the authorities with a beef:
      1) Nothing: The teachers /cops / gaurds don't give a fuck that some asshole bullied you, stole from you, or raped your punk ass.
      2) Loss of respect: The other kids / gang members / inmates will rightly see you as a rat and a pussy. This will cause you more grief than any possible benefit
The one rule he left out was "Handle Your Business" If you have a problem with someone, handle it yourself. Like our host did when he smashed his cellies head into the wall. Handle it yourself, and take the consequences like a man. Don't be a pussy.
Snitches and pedos aren't hated so much for being snitches and pedos as they are for being cowards. Opportunistic shitbags. Believe it or not, prison and street gang cultures are honor based. It's why they are so violent and unforgiving. I worked as a white collar professional for decades after escaping the 'hood. It was awful. Most motherfuckers in suits wouldn't last a week inside, because they have no sense of honor, and are total pussies who lie like shit. Their word is worthless, and you never know when they'll back-stab you.
Everything this guy says comes down to honor and respect.
Fucking babies and snitching are about as dishonorable as it gets, inside or out of the joint.
      Handle your business.

My dad was in prison when I was in 6th grade till I graduated jr high for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, got blamed by everyone else, judge found out he dropped out of public school which I’m guessing increased his sentence to get his GED. Hearing all that you’ve shared with all of us gives me insight into maybe what my dad probably went through in prison. I don’t know what level of security he was in tho. The people that got my dad involved were co workers trying to steal money from the company they worked for. I wish I had written more letters to my dad when he was in or more phone calls but when he got out he seemed ok at first but then cheated on my mom and left when I started college. I imagine prison can change someone a lot. A lot of my dads side have been to prison but I have not thus far and I hope I never do. Thank you for what you do Larry. Much peace and happiness to you

Former guard. Can't tell you how many times I've watched former inmates talk about snitches but never mention guards dislike them too. 100% true. Half the time the fuckers lie and snitch on guards to management.

23:10 Very informative! I know this is very sound advice for new people coming into the system. I like how you broke down what snitching is. People got the snitching twisted as you said. Thank you for the education Larry. 21:56

Thank you for the videos you’re really helping people on both sides, people facing time and people that don’t understand people doing time. My little brother went in at 17 for a crime he didn’t commit and he’s been there over 20 years in California level 4 corrections facilities. I been praying and paying for years hoping for justice I won’t stop until he’s out with me.

Bro it is so awesome that one of your rules was " say excuse me " ...that's so fuckin cool. Showing a little respect to a fellow inmate is a huge fuckin problem because no one wants to look weak. But respect is a key issue that more people need to embrace

Hey Larry! A friend of mine was released a couple years ago after doing 40 years for murder. I mentioned to him about how you and other UA-camrs who have done time are doing this stuff to help keep people out of prison and to tell their experiences. He is interested in maybe starting up his own account. Do you have any tips for him to get his channel off the ground? Would definitely appreciate hearing back from you man!
    Cheers!

People always say - be yourself. Let him be yourself. Let him tell a story, how he experienced the time, etc. It would be pretty interesting to hear what was going on if he was 40 years in prison for that serious charge. Ey, if you got his channel - link it here or tell the name. Cheers.

I’ve been watching Larry for almost a year, I’ve seen his whole series on gangster redemption a few times, watched his prison food video’s, but one topic I’d like him to touch base more on was how his trial went, what was his initial thought process when he was sentenced, his family’s reaction, his mental state when he was sitting in court during that time.

Idk if he's done it, I'm new to his channel, but that seems a bit personal beyond a basic summary of his trial.
