you can feel the difference of confidence between their first and second attempt
I might gonna add Lin Dan from China (Badminton). He had his olympic debut at Athens 2004, only reaching round of 32. But after then, he got gold in both Beijing 2008 and London 2012
cant believe phelps was only 15 at his first olympics
I’d argue Federer was pretty well known by then
👍👍👍👍
Same as Daley, he was qualified for the Olympics when he was 14.
BiancaAndreeocu she doesn’t know about yes I was younger Dundas Seahawks best Swimmer Ontario Special Olympus if she wants marrying MatthewCampbell 40 birthday wife no inside her sweet dreams
@@jamesmay7392 No Federer was a nobody till about 2001-2003. He was deffo a small time guy in 2000 where Sydney was.
He was mostly famous for being the male partner in Mixed doubles with Hingis at that time.
7:54 this is how legend looks like
This is what I call NEVER GIVE UP!!!
Really? Making the olympics as a teenager or very young person in their 20s is what you call never giving up?
@@jettlaxholly Listen, some athletes from whom people, especially their coaches, have high expectations tend to quit after achieving less than modest results. But other tell themselves "I WILL do better in the next Olympics!" and take their "failure" as a learning lesson. That's what happened to these athletes who are now well-known. That's the meaning of my post.
@@pantherablaxxx9930 I know EXACTLY what you meant!! Whenever I (and many others) fail at something when they expected to do well, the "maybe I should give up" thoughts start creeping in. These champions obviously didn't do that and that's the difference between them and "average" competitors.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Rumyana Neykova - Bulgarian rower won her gold medal in her 5th Olympics in Beijing, after winning silver in Sidney and bronze in Athens (35 years). Valentin Yordanov - the wrestler of the 20th century - was 36 years when he won in Atlanta. Pretty amazing.
To see Usain Bolt lose.... It's so weird XD
And he looked so anxious... XD
USAIN BOLT, MICHAEL PHELPS, MICHAEL JORDAN and ROGER FEDERER to me are the icons for this OLYMPICS.
How is Federer an icon for the olympics, he’s never won gold singles, and this is coming from a fed fan
Mihir Hingorani you don't have to win a gold singles to be an icon?
sylvia well to be an Olympic legend you need to be consistently at the top of the Olympics, which Federer was not, while I agree he was a tennis legend, he was not exactly a Olympic legend
There’re icons to their own sports if that’s what u meant
Pyrros Dimas , Alexander Karelin, Naim Suleymanoglu
+ Special Mention
Jesse Owens
Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali)
5:38 that feeling when you overcome the impossible!
Whoa! Caterine Ibarguen looks waaay more fabulous now :D
I should add Jan Zelesny of Czech Republic, WR holder in men's Javelin throw. His debut was at 1988 Olympic in which he won silver. He actually had very good chance to win the gold, as he was leading with 83.46m ahead of two Finnish athlete : Seppo Raty and Tapio Korjus. But at the last throw, Korjus did 84.28m, while Zelesny had 84.12m, preventing the legend to win his 1st gold.
In the next 3 Olympics, he was unbeaten.
This channel should do a video on this legend of Javelin.
I’d argue Federer was pretty well known by then
Your mom knew him well, that's for sure.
In 2000, Federer was hardly well known. You're talking about 3 years before his 1st slam win.
He was well known. All of you tennis fans just think that they had a junior career before being pros, and Federer won Wimbledon junior and was number 1 in itf junior ranking. Because of this a lot of people knew about him and his potential (not the Goat, but a grat tennis player).
@@carlosguerreroalvarez4624 Most people couldn't name the #1 juniors player now. Federer was hardly a household name back in 2000. That Olympics performance and the following couple of years, is what lead to the beginning of his relevance in the sports world.
@@Tigerkem agree. maybe well known by a small group been a swiss prodigy. but there is long way from a prodigy to hall of frame
31 st to olympic champion, wow when passion helps you get to the peak of the mountain
So proud to see Ibargüen here
*CAROLINA MARÍN* 🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦
*Amazing fighter*
💪💪
💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Catherine Ibarguen! COLOMBIA ❤🇨🇴
She really changed the sport she competed in. What a legend!
And now Włodarczyk has won her third gold medal
Gracias Caterine.
Michael jordan❤️😭
The badminton legend Lin Dan should be on the list as well. He lost at round 32 in 2004 but came back with gold medal in 2008 and 2012. That makes him the legend of badminton MS.
still dont know why Squash is not considered a sport in the olympics
@iExertis golf is even boring LMAO
@iExertis yeah, hence the pole vault and gymnastics lmao
@iExertis squash boring? And where you get the statistic. Gold dont even popular in asia, africa and south america lmao

Awww. Baby Bolt was soooo cute!
Yeah! Lets go
Usain bolt was amazing and unbelievable 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Could you please upload some Michael Jordan games from the 1984 Olympics?
How could I forget Lennox Lewis, undisputed HW champion ?
At age 18, Lewis represented Canada in the super HW division at Los Angeles 1984. He lost to Tyrell Biggs in quarter final, who won the gold. Four years later, he won gold, beating Riddick Bowe in the final.
I would add :
1. Peter Van den Hoogenband of Netherland - 100m and 200m freestyle at 1996. He finished 4th in both races. Four years later he beat Alexander The Great Popov to win the gold in 100m free. He also won 200m free, beating home favorite Ian Thorpe.
2. Inge de Bruijn of Netherland - 100m and 4x100m freestyle at 1992. She finished 8th in both races. In Sydney 2000, he won 3 golds : 50m free, 100m free and 100m butterly, with WR in all these races.
3. Tom Malchow of USA - 200m butterfly at 1996. He won silver at that race behind Dennis Pankratov. Four years later he won gold in the race when Michael Phelps did his debut. Pankratov actually did very well, but ran out of gas in the last 50m, that he even was caught by teenager Phelps.
4. Mark Tewksbury of Canada - 100m backstroke at 1988. He was there in the race when Daichi Suzuki of Japan made a big upset, beating the favorite David Berkoff (WR holder).
Four years later, he won gold beating the favorite Jeff Rouse (WR holder) and David Berkoff.
5. Linford Christie of GBR- 100m at 1988 Olympic. He won silver behind Carl Lewis, after Ben Johnson was disqualified for doping. Four years later he won gold.
Monster-mental athletes. Salute.
Caroline Marin . amazing journey to be an olympic Champions
at 4:44 Wawrinka hit RF on his jaw haha

They could've mentioned his silver in 2012. Was waiting for it.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@ketan6182 nobody cares about silver. Even equestrian gold worth more than silver in football/100m
Caterine 😍
Chase your dreams!
Keep on the daily grind going, don't compare the start of our journey to the peak of someone else. It's just matter of time when we reach there.
I miss Usain on the track. 😢
We got london on the track😎😎
Mad props for Hoszu and Isinbayeva.
eye opening Olympians
Appreciate to Katinka Hosszú !! It's not easy to do it for common people !

Missing 2 great Kenyans ; E.Kipchoge & V.Cheruiyot.
Whats song ?
Where is Aljona Savchenko? She participated 5 times in winter olympics only to win gold in Peyongchang 2018 at age 33!
They don't tend to mix winter and summer games in these videos...This was all summer...
Well since this is clearly for the summer Olympics it doesnt take a genius to work that one out
Michael Jordan was pretty well known in 1984 he won a national championship and college player of the year
In USA,not World known ;)
@@Mr1888888888 I mean, if you followed basketball at all in 1984 you knew who Michael Jordan was. He was a pretty big deal already
@Mr Clean In the US, yes, MJ was well known. But being a person that grew up and moved around alot overseas, US college championships were NOT highly televised worldwide, if at all especially in the 1980s. Even now if you were to ask someone from another country who won the 2019 NCAA Basketball Championship, there's a high probability that they wouldn't know.
Mr. Empire I agree with you : out of the USA he was unknown until late 80's or better early 90's
@@TonganInTech Where are you from?
Motivated vedio.... Never give up
This is such an important video
what happen with Jefferson Pérez of Ecuador in 96
This champions are the bests my Friends, you know
You guys have to download all the T&F evants of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics , what are you waiting for ?
When we all die !
What about Lin Dan? He lost in the FIRST ROUND of Olympics 2004 and then made history by winning gold in 2008 and 2012
Yes but no ones cares about badminton and i deeply regret it... the best sport ever !
@@adrienbeaujean6148 people do care about it
@@adrienbeaujean6148 if no-one cares about badminton they wouldn't put Carolina Marin on it, I think they just chose one from a sport
Michael Jordan!!!😀
Federer and Wawrinka? Opposition had no chance.
They beat the Bryan bros, probably the greatest doubles team of all time
Even legends have bad days
No " LIN DAN ".....he lost in early stages of 2004 olympics. won gold in both 2008 n 2012 olympics. Best ever badminton player world has ever seen. Anyways...great inspiring video.
Song?
When Michael Phelps Came I got Goosebumps.
Bolt was just a kid in his first Olympics
Funny how some Bodys Change 4 years after, then all of a sudden They become unbeatable forces 😂 the Olympics..
Best Olympics basketball player ever: 24/24, a winning record of (1!)
Name of the background song? Haha. Pls. Olympic page answer us. Haha.
The music speaks "Underdog"
Bolt was the World Junior and World Youth Champion, and also holder of the WJR and WYB heading into the Athens Olympics. His 19.93 was also the World Lead at the time so it was hardly an unknown debut??
Colombia
Anita still dominating till now
Ok 💐💐
Fun fact about Usain Bolt’s victory in the men’s 100m in Beijing 2008: He won the race with untied shoes and somehow didn’t trip!
Wlodarczyk went from missing the podium to being a back-to-back-to-back Olympic champion.
Where is Alexander Lebziak from Russia
His fist Olympics was at 1992 and than 2000 he won in the age of 33 Years the Gold Medal

Whatever happened to that Michael Jordan fellow? He seems like he had a lot of potential.
I'd wish him the best. Hope he will be successful in NBA and maybe land a role in movies or something
I think he had a great space adventure with Bugs bunny and his team.
👌💪👍✌
Do badminton players cross over to tennis or vice versa?
No. Why would you think that?
You forgot Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago who won the javelin event in 2012 at the age of 19
No, this was about uneventful debuts of athletes who later became Olympic champions.
Music ???
Ilove you to me friend and tanks and very good and see you again
Debuts chpions top moments .
Rudwan 🦋😍👌👍💖🦋
As in Vanessa Bianca Andreescu vs MatthewCampbell s # Hollywood 40 tennis games
Others include
Seb Coe
Steve Ovett
Most popular person of Olympic Michael Phelps
Really? You picked MJ? The guy was very well known in collage ball in 1984.
Failure is not end
Honestly, hardly any of these are "unknown"... to be able to qualify for the Olympics you usually are the one of the top athletes in your country, you qualify through world/European etc' championships - so you are known on the circuit. If Eric Moussibami won a medal in the following Olympics, that would qualify as an unknown debut.
