I am 200% here for new philodendron hybrids. While I can appreciate 'classic' anthuriums, the 3x and 4x hybrids feel exceedingly extra. Let the 5% have em. I'll take Phil for the win any day of the week.
Same!!! Every hybrid I’ve got is going nuts. I can’t wait to see what the plant community can come up with now. My Royal Queen is blooming. And I need to learn how to save and store pollen. 💚
Well I am FINALLY ahead of the game! 😂😂 I've had a blue oil fern since last spring 😊 And I have a bipennifolium that I just chopped and water propagated and one leaf has some varigation!! Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🎁🎉
My ranking is definitely Anthurium, philodendron, Monstera.
Yes Anthuriums 1st
Same
my local plant shop got blue oil ferns in and they’re so much bluer than i thought they were!! they’re amazing little dudes
The blue oil fern, I have found that if I keep it in low light it gets more blue. Grows a little slower. But the blue is worth it!
OMG the bipennifolium (Golden VIolin) is one of the toughest plants in my collection, hands down. I absolutely love how easy it is to prop, took 3-4 cuttings about 4 months ago and they are THRIVING. I found a 6in Golden Violin at a local nursery in a display pot and couldnt find ANY others in the shop. I was able to snag it for $50 and I have never seen another one in person since. They are so stunning and I can see them gaining popularity in the next year because of the luxurious & unique leaf shape.
Absolutely love your videos btw
💟
shocker...
#1 Anthurium
#2 Monstera
#3 Philodendron
Only the variegated gloriosum is really high up on my wishlist.
Philo, monstera, anthurium. I DO like anthuriums but it doesnt matter matte, velvet, whatever they struggle a lot of the time in my care and I have hundreds of plants. I dont have the time to baby/work with them. I did just get anthurium water dragon which I'd think you'd like. Long boi, BIG black leaves that emerge lime green. Monsteras there are a ton of cultivars that the pricing never really went down or they arent TCed so there are a lot that I want but they arent commercially available and are elusive to me.
I’m so excited about all the Philodendron hybrids. They seem so hardy and many of them look very interesting. I’ve wanted a Summer Glory for a while now, and I think this year is the year for me to get it.
I can’t believe I actually guessed the parents of the hybrid philodendron, my jaw dropped when you said it 😂
anthurium first always!!!! for me its more like , Anthurium , Alocasia , Orchids , Philodendron . haha
Love the philo atabapoense var. Few nice mutations are Red Majesty Variegated and my favorite Philo Gloriosum X Maximum
Im definitly on an anthurium kick and they do indeed come first. Mostly because they just don't grow as large as quickly. Like if I grow a philo up a pole I'm halfing my pole and adding an extension like every few months and then I'm stuck with extra plant that I don't have a place for. Anthuriums not so much. They stay more compact and my cats wont chew them too.
Your clues were good! I said El Choco Billie but I thought I was probably waaaay off. 😂
Alocsia, Anthurium, Philodendron, Monstera, but I love varigated plants of any kind.
That Billie x Choco is wow! 😮
21:31 I screamed 😂😂😂. I’ve got one parent correct the chocco red.
I'd rank anthurium first then philodendron, maybe it's because I'm not huge on variegation haha
I guessed spiritus sancti x gloriosum 😂 never been so wrong in my life 😮
The Congo hybrid might have ROF as the other parent.
Hi Kaylee, when will the homalomena ghost be ready? Those are stunning!!!!!!!
Yuletide greetings and seasons blessings Kaylee 🫶🫶
Stunning var Atabapoense 🌱💚
Ooh I love seeing a full P. bipennifolium variegated. I got a single leaf cutting a month ago in a mystery box from a member of my local plant Facebook group. I’m so excited for it to grow into a full plant! 🤩 My prop is doing well, roots and an active growth point, but it is slower than the PPP cutting I got from the same mystery box
For me it’s Anthuriums and Philodendron as my top with Monster as# 2
ENJ💚YED SEEING Y💚UR C💚💚L PLANT HAUL!!!
I would love to see if you have any anthurium vittarifolium variegated! I see very few videos with them! Thanks Kaylee!
For the P. bipennifolium variegated, its probably because they're unstable. I haven't personally owned one, but I've had friends who have. Any time one of them tried to propagate they had issues with reversion. They just realllyyyyy love to switch back to solid green after being chopped it seems.
My guess is Billietiae x gloriosum but I’m second guessing because of the blush on the back of the leaves. 🤔
I think yellow is making a comeback and cream is more desirable than white, but I know nothing. 😆
Anthurium are definitely number 1 for me, Second Hoya, a wildcard, than monstera, alocasia and last philodendron 🫣😅
I think the varigated Bipennifolium is still not widely sold because it reverts really easily. I bought one ..and spent a pretty penny... about a year ago. Bright light, all the care ect ect.. its reverted. I took it to my plant shop to see if for some reason, our conditions there might help. Nope. I'm going to chop it up next week. See if I can't get it to come back that way. It worked for burle marx. 🤷♀️
Because of you I got a blue oil fern and they are fantastic. The blue does slowly develop and oh my god it's mesmerizing. They're not kidding when they say that it's for the patient plant parent, though, and you need to make sure that it stays moist and never let it go completely dry more than a touch, but don't water log the soil! I lost 3 fronds when I let my guard down.
Yea I’m a Philo lover, not as much anthuriums or alocasias except the funky ones are great.
I'd do monstera, antherium then philodendron only because I'm naff at mastering philodendron.
Happy Christmas kaylee, Ben and everyone watching x
I'm finally going to get an oily fern boi in 2024, been on my list for years but I've had no space. Now this year I gave away over 100 plants to friends/family and I i have gained back some prime spots for what I really want 💚
I just got my first real wish-list plant, and it's a blue oily boy (which you should definitely put on a t-shirt, btw). He's just a little guy and I hope he goes more blue, but even the greenish-blue he is right now flashes that blue iridescence in the light. They are truly stunning plants! It's because of your channel and vids on the blue oil fern that it became an obsession because blue and iridescence are two of my favorite things! Love your channel!
Damn, for me it’s actually 1. Anthurium 2. Epipremnum 3. Monstera and 4. Philodendron 😂
I own a bipennifolium var. and its easy to propagate.
I have a few bipennifolium variegated cuttings that have been chopped and sold off. It really scares a lot of folks off because the first leaf that comes out of the cut typically ends up reverted / all green despite the growth point sitting on a variegated section of the stem. Once you allow it to grow out some more, however, the subsequent foliage looks outstandingly variegated. It's a mystery to me 🙃
Lovely plants! Please give us a close up of the monsteras along with the new hybrids.
I am also back here asking for an update on your orchids 😂
Merry Christmas / happy holidays!
Epipremnum (NOT Pothos. I am trying to get a specimen of P. longipes which is native to my region though), Monstera, Philodendron are my top three in order. Been starting to get into Peperomia lately because of the PBR cultivars I recently found. I'm keen to collect more Hoyas too. I only have one I started from a stick.
Anthurium are nice but not high on my list of wants or needs.
The Microsorum thailandicum is my unicorn. Impossible to find in Australia, or at least it is or me.
I have tenue x plowmanii for ages and a few of australian bred verrucosum x gloriosum. Would be nice to see more hybrids
omg, of course Anthuriums come first :) Have you seen some of them?! Philodendrons are actually third out of the three for me. And if we're talking aroids in general they would definitely come after alocasias as well.
Agreed! I am burnt by the advice about anthurium and alocasia getting the “hard” to care for label. All plants can be hard, and the reward of growing anthurium and alocasia to me is like winning a lottery with every new leaf 🥺
Same. Anthuriums 1st.
Agreed
@@stas41414 and philodendron are easy to grow but hard to keep looking well, it seems they can't grow well without a moss pole and I'm only willing to bother with those for some chosen plants.
Anthurium comes first
I love those little Congo hybrids!! Great haul... hope you have a Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
I’m in my anthurium phase right now so for me it would be Anthurium, Monstera, then philodendron. Philo have been pissing me off lately lol
These plants are all very, very covetable! (Hate the blue fern, though.) Have a Merry Christmas and thanks for all the lovely videos - you rock!
I got a small bipennifolium var a few weeks back and the shipping from Ireland to Germany took ages as there have been issues with floods and whatnot during that time. However, the plant was still in a good condition and has been so easy to acclimate and grow so far. It's been pushing out tons of new leaves and they all have great variegation. Huge go-go for me. Such a sturdy plant, absolutely love it
I’m a philodendron girl, all in for new hybrids 👍 That blue fern is absolutely gorgeous 💕 All the plants in the haul are beautiful. Merry Christmas 🎄🎅😀🇨🇦
Mine is
1. Anthuriums
2. Philodendrons
3. Monsteras
The bipenn var is so pretty. We have lots in the US, and they are cheap. My bipenn aurea was a pain. It needed high light and humidity and still hated me. It's thriving in a friend's greenhouse now.
Omg the blue oil fern 😍 after the first time I saw it in your other video, I went on a hunt for it and finally purchased one from online. Mine is still a baby but I can’t wait for him to size up and become a true blue big boi like yours ☺️
Great video! Merry Christmas!
Question, the plastic containers that you use in your plant racks, how big are they, and where do you buy them?
Love your channel
Regarding P. Bipennifolium I have an original green and a variegated one. Original green is growing outside now and has produced blister variegation. It’s a huge plant. I live in Southern California, by the way. My variegated one came from a cutting. It now has 7 or 8 leaves. Each is gorgeous. However, it’s not sizing up. It’s a perfect miniature plant with 5 inch long leaves. 🤷♀️
I have two oil slick ferns after seeing Kaylee show hers 3 years ago. They grow slowly but I luv their metallic blue sheen.
M - monstera's
A - anthurium
P - philo
A - anything else!
this is my ranking, i hope we see monstera hybridization efforts!
LOVE the Homalomena Mint!! Just got a few of those! Act just like the ghost
Hi Kaylee Ellen. I got my hands on a var bipenn about a year ago and it had beautiful leaves, but then proceeded to revert to all green. I chopped it and are growing all the green bits out, and the variegated stump is starting to push out new growth so we’ll see if the variegation comes back. I just bought a new rooted cutting for cheap, so we’ll see how that one goes. Yours looks really nice so hopefully it will continue to grow as is.
Merry Christmas 🎉
Well i was a Monstera-philo's girl but now I am an Anthuriums girl, and with a zest of Variegated Alocasia ;-). and of course i have a Blue oil Fern (Microsorum Thailandicum) in Pon too, undergrowlight in a Ikea cabinet....a slowgrower but the iridescent metallic blue green sheen is phenomenal to look at...a must ! and for the mystery Parentage of your hybrid my guess is : Choco Red X Glorious
Merry Christmas!
Love all of these. Merry Xmas!
I love that blue plant...I definitely am getting that!! Need to know the name
Oh my... the variegated atabapoense looks sooo hot! I honestly love my regular one so so much, so the variegated ones are just brilliant! 😍 alao used to have a bipennifolium aura, and it grew like no tomorrow! Had to sell it as he was starting to be a bit too much 😅
Dam girl, those abs! You're killing it at the gym! ♥️
💪🏼
Thank you for sharing this info! You rock!
I have a bipen variegated. Its not huge but it has a good few leaves. Generally the variegation has been all over the place. I bought one with a decent mix of speckled variegation and a wee bit of sectoral. I gave it less light at one point and it threw a wobbly and went green (previous leaf was worryingly yellow). Its since given me a few green leaves, then when I was about to give up its thrown some really beautiful variegated ones then its gone green again 😂 Cant make up its mind!
Looking forward to seeing a video on Homalomenas. They are lovely.
Love the billie x el choco red! Wonder how long it'll take before we can get them here in Australia. Hard to get the microsorum thaliandicum here too... have been keeping an eye out. When I have seen them they've been expensive.
Oooh, wish I could get the rescue billietae box !
That fiddle leaf Philo looks like something else trying to unload something 😱
Anthuriums first for me 😅 then philodendrons and then monstera but if you asked me Last year i would have said philos first so ... ❤
I have the violin variegated, and it props exactly the same as Florida B easy easy, love the congo's I have not seen those yet, the microsorum thailandicum are great, but do yourself a favor and check out the elaphoglossum metallicum I am just loving those, I am also so glad you looking at hybrids so much potential, I have some Florida Beauty pollen and I am waiting for a flower on my sharoniae so excited to see if it takes and makes some seed!
Sorry Kaylee, I own over 120 anthurium which is well over twice as many philodendron in my collection. Philodendron are more difficult to propagate and are just fussier than my Anthurium. And NO moss poles! Occasionally they’ll need a stake.
And have you really looked at all the different varieties available? They’re incredible and so different from one another.
Philodendron definitely have prettier variegated varieties. The only variegated anthurium I like/own is the Vittarifolium. My collection is heading towards just silver and variegated philodendron, except for my Tortum. I’ll always have a tortum. 😊
Alocasia are my favourite, philodendron then monstera - I do like anthurium too 😂
Hahahaha I got the philo hybrid right!!!!
I can’t believe myself😂😅🌱
Anthurium top of the totem pole for me sis!
Funnily enough, my variegated bipenns do insanely great with propping (no air layering or prepping for cutting, I was impatient). I have yet to lose any var cuttings. Now the regular bipenns… they really don’t like when I cut them, like at all. 😂😅
I’m not a fan of variegated plants but that atabapoense is nice. Billietiae is my favourite philodendron and I think that the hybrids very nice and I’d love one added to my collection in the future, I guessed both parents lol.
I have a bipennifolium aurea and for me it’s a SLOW grower. But very beautiful plant 👍🏻👍🏻
I guessed El Choco Red correct but I got thought the other parent was Esmeraldense ! lol what a lovely hybrid! 💚
I totally get why you would guess that based on how it looks lol
02:45 ... An American accent?! Interesting plants, almost enough to make me want to get back into tropicals!
I’m so happy my longbois shirt is in!!!!
My personal ranking:
1. Anthuriums for the Win!! 😍
2. Hoya
3. Epipremnum
4. Monstera
5. Philodendron (Sorry! 😅)
Can’t wait for my longbois shirt to come!:)))))
The atabapoense variegated is a new stable version and is in tc production and is being put into the Trending Tropicals collection next year.
Where did you see/hear that???
I love the billietiae x El choco red 🤩♥️♥️♥️
Philodendron
Anthurium
monstera
🤘🏻
I bought nicely variegated P. bipennifolium this year at spring- it made another nice leaf and then reverted in green:(((( i made several cuttings later (after 5 green leaves) but they have non variegated leaves too:( And other person i know who have another cutting told me it reverted into full yellowXD Its really unstable plant so maybe its the reason. I would never bought it again.
Bipens revert pretty easily in my experience. Ive had to cut mine back many times.
25:06 interesting varigation style compared to even other var Atabas 🧐
I do love anthuriums, they are very nice plants. Philodendron are slightly easier, but not all of them.
Philodendron, anthurium, monstera.
I love homalomena but feel like the markets been abit saturated over 23. They have come down alot down in price which is great though.
Obviously this will sound like bs but I guessed the philodendron cross and I’m proud of myself 🥲
I don’t mind tissue culture when the plant comes out right…but I’ve seen people with the most hideously deformed tissue culture plants! I remember last year TC Painted Ladies were everywhere looking ALL wrong: clustered growth of weak tiny leaves, instead of a robust vining plant and almost no color in the petioles…it was such a disaster it had to be renamed “Calkin’s Gold” 😭
Wait really?? I didn’t know that’s how Calkin’s Gold came to be 😮
@ohrats731 lol it’s just my own theory so it’s definitely not an established fact
If we’re getting more philodendron hybrids, I want gloriosum crossed with everything. Gloriosum and hastatum to get a semi heart shaped silver leaf with veining? Yes. Gloriosum and golden goddess to get a bushy and compact neon green heart shaped leaf? Yes. Gloriosum and dark lord to get the sexiest plant ever? Oh yes please.
I like the way your brain works! I'd love all of these!!
May I add Gloriosum x Florida Ghost which ideally comes in like the Florida Ghost and older leafs look like a Gloriosum?
In the same vein: Micans crossed with a lot.
Bipenifollieum verigated is very unstable plant...propogation not a problem but the verigation fades away after propogation...
