  • More than half of the Uruguayan territory is covered by native grasslands, which represents the main ecosystem of our eco-region. The possibility of producing food and fiber, while conserving this valuable ecosystem, gives the country a big opportunity and challenge. Internationally, Regenerative Livestock approach is recognized as a form of production that favors natural cycles and the conservation of biodiversity within agricultural systems. This approach contemplates the care of the soil, water and the regeneration of the natural environments where livestock farming takes place. The video shows how INIA Uruguay proposes to environmentally evaluate Uruguayan livestock systems with scientifically validated indicators, considering five dimensions: Life cycle analysis for greenhouse gas emissions, the Ecosystem integrity index, Carbon stocks in the soil, the associated Wild biodiversity and the Productive and environmental genetic level of cattle and sheep.
