This is going to have a big economic impact on the Sonoma County region and enrollment. SSU is a great campus and an institution with a promising future. Did CSU really choose to announce this on a Friday-BY EMAIL?

@@DavidPalmer707 not really, the parents can create an open leagues with their own money, that will generate business and will proof if they really want to play the sports, one example is the open soccer league in san francisco, they dont use money from any college, anyone can came and play, well that would be the best for any colleges.

    Calling on donors.
It may not take that much to save athletics...$1 million?

Entitled coaches and athletes don't mention the school spends $3.7 million per year on athletics and has only 227 student athletes--that means taxpayers spend $16,000 plus per athlete providing them with full time coaches, travel across the state and athletic staff to organize and publicize their hobby. For a fraction of the cost, SSU can fund an intramural and club sport system that can serve a more than less than one percent of its student body.

I can tell by your comment that you have no understanding of being athletic or a sports parent. These kids/parents and coaches have spent a lot of time and resources to get to this level. What you need to talk about is how is the school is in this financial situation. This doesn't happen over night?

@@skrillaboy1 Where to start--just because you made the parental choice to spend money on your kids learning to play sports better does not mean taxpayers are obligated to subsidize further training for your kids' hobby as they become adults, regardless of whether the college is financially viable or not. Sports parents feel entitled to preferred treatment, primarily because our sports teams are the only thing our public school system can consistently do well.

The parental choice is what any functional parent would provide for their children if they have a talent art, music, sport ect. These student athletes are not entitled. They have earned the right to play on a team through hard work and dedication. These type of students tend to be more well rounded young adults. These teams also generate revenue for the school and help out in the community and the the surrounding businesses benefit as well as rental property owners who pay taxes that also benefit the school/city. They also benefit by being physically fit and socially conscious.

Great finally they gonna give a good use to the real students, students don't need sport for education, doesn't help in anything, if students want to play any sports the parents and the students can made open leagues,

Or transfer to prestigious schools like USC or UCLA that have great athletics and the schools are Tier 1 and AAU status

@GhostTrueCapitalist or the parents can create open leagues with their own money, so they can compite in a real level, without using the money of students who dont play any sport, that will proof how much dedication they have to the sports they want to play, and face real athletic people will make them better in any sport, not some lame students with no life and no dedication who only play sport for fun or for hobbies
