This is the only Miss Universe pageant I did not see live on TV between 1971 and 2015. I was "studying" in Germany while in college. The right woman won. I would have liked to have seen Germany in the top 5, replacing Venezuela.

Miss Colombia uffff... increiblemente hermosa, sin duda debió haber sido coronada esa noche. Lamentable que hayan mandado a Miss Germany con un traje tan simple, porque belleza le sobraba y esta etapa es definitivamente el momento para brillar. Miss Guatemala muy linda tb pero los nervios se la comían. Miss Holland fantástica, encajó con el concepto de traje de noche y glamour a la perfección.
Agreed... Holland and Germany looked great. I have to add Colombia only because the dress was over the top typical 1980's style beaded,appliquéd and jeweled evening gown. Sweden did look a bit strange (high?) in this portion of the competition and her dress was pretty bad in comparison to some of the other ladies.

Well, thank you that was a great time if you are just a spectator. Ven's gown is not that worst but look at her walk? I really appreciate her swimsuit and interview, not in general.
I personally liked it, it was different, it brought out her personality. Sweden has usually done well in these pageant, but their gowns are usually awful, this was one time, i thought they picked a good one
Miss Sweden made it work. She wore it well, and it was a nice design. It is a style from the 70s but this one had a light avant garde touch to it. Miss Sweden also looked mysterious in it.
Miss Germany was astonishingly gorgeous, as well as Sweden. Venezuela and South Africa did not deserve the top 5. Sweden, Germany, Colombia, Holland and Philippines were the best. I remember watching it with my mother when I was a little kid.

Hindi sya ready-made. Uncle ko si Mama Renee so I am very certain na tela na halagang 50 pesos kada yarda ang binili nya at hindi RTW gown. Sya ang gumawa ng gown na inspired sa YSL vintage gown na suot ni Victoria Principal sa cover ng Cosmopolitan Magazine.
To me Yvone Ryding is one of the most naturally beautifull MU ever. My absolut favorite trough out the entire competition. But when she was on stage wearing 'that' i almost had a pánic attack. She could've picked up a bit more sophisticated dress, maybe? So YES! I'll keep talking about her ugly dress
Philippines was so stunning and lovely, and the bg song perfectly executes when she was turn, her walk was so very elegant with beautiful flowy and colorful "ahead of time" gown that matches so amazing... 4:00 She still deserve one of the five finalist, well done! In fact, Philippines, Holland and Colombia has the most beautiful gowns that matches in their walk.

I suppose that Little USA was wearing a recycled sash from an earlier edition because her sash is spelled as 'U.S.A.' -- the old school style. It wasn't until 1983 that it had become grammatically acceptable to omit periods in acronyms, one such as U.S.A. which is now spelled as USA.
Were the judges paying attention to the gowns, elegance and confidence of these women? Sweden had a horrid gown, awkward walk and looked overwhelmed but got first place! WTF!!! Germany, Venezuela & Holland were the top 3 in evening gown.

I am good friends with her sister. One of the judges was so upset she did not win he hired her as one of his models & she lived in N.Y. for many years. Nancy Neade was the first woman of color to win Miss Holland. This was also the year there was a first Miss America woman of color & to me still 1983 Miss America Venessa Williams. Miss colombia hermosa mucha gracia Venezuela la más bella de todas pero se veía despistada casi se cae miss usa se parece blanca nieves. Miss Tailandia tiene el vestido más moderno de todas pero la sueca era única se ve que es muy buena gente de verdad nada armado
muchos piensan que el jurado pone puntaje al traje, mas brutos!!!! sinopues que manden un maniqui con el traje!!! a lo q le ponen puntaje es ala concursante. Si es bella el puntaje que poenn es de apoyo unicamente, asi sea feo el vestido. almenos que sea una mujer desgarbada y sin gracia. En el caso de sweden era muy linda y graciosa, el vestido era algo secundario, belñlisima

Sweden's gown is a fashion blunder. Miss Philippines gown was definitely ahead of it's times and very elegant.

Sweden wore her gown confidently and proudly which is why she won the competition. She wore the dress, it didn’t wear her - if that makes sense.
