Abandoned UK Power Station! Fawley Chimney | THE END FOR THE 50 YEAR OLD LANDMARK - Tribute Video

- Today marks the day this long lived icon along the skyline of the coast of Hampshire has been brought down. This short video is a quick montage of aerial footage from the mighty tower! Demolition video to follow...
Fawley Power Station was an oil-fired power station located on the western side of Southampton Water, between the villages of Fawley and Calshot in Hampshire, England. It's chimney stands at 650 feet, and is a familiar landmark/sight in the local area.
Built in the late 1960's and commissioned in 1971, it became a 2000 Megawatt power station with four 500MW generating units, each consisting of a boiler supplying steam to a turbine that powers an associated generator. The boilers were capable of delivering 3941 lbs/s of steam at 2300 PSI and 538°C (1000°F). The cooling pumps were Britain's largest with a flow of 210,000 GPM.
***NOTE: The brief increase of altitude took place directly next to the chimney only - at no point other than this did the drone maintain this altitude. Following a pass of the chimney, a sharp decent to 400ft followed. While I recognize that for a brief period, the legal altitude limit was breached, I believe it was carried out in a safe manor, and there was no threat to nearby aircraft due to the close proximity to the chimney (visual check undertaken also). Should it be claimed there was, or could have been a possible threat, then I also believe that if an aircraft was flying at the close proximity and height of the chimney, then there would have been a bigger issue facing an aircraft (i.e. the chimney) than a drone.***
This footage is for historical purposes only.

Thousands of us were waiting on the Fawley Waterside channel for their live feed. All watchers close to Southampton heard the boom but the live feed never came on! We all missed the event completely!
Not just the weather that was disappointing today. Still the rain will keep the dust down
Don’t worry it was crap anyway
Thats a real shame!
@@ExploringWithin Yes, isn't it? Still your great vid will be a valuable piece of Hampshire history and a nice reminder for us Sotonians to look back on in future!
...and for those of us along the coast in Gosport, too, where the double booms were loud & resonant. The chimney's been there almost all of my life, and the view from Stokes Bay will be rather different from now onwards. A sad day. A local landmark and a piece of history.
shame to see it blown up
thank you for this fab footage....... it has been here all my life and the view from home will not be the same! I had a few tears when I saw it come down as it has felt like a part of me! Change is inevitable, so before it gets crazy down there... I shall enjoy and pay respects to the land which homed that great tower for all these years! :-)
Glad you enjoyed the footage! Also good to see at a different perspective also. The view will never be the same!
Thanks for using the drone to give us such a good close up view of the chimney. Hope you didn't get into any trouble from the authorities. So much bureaucracy to contend with these days. Glad you didn't get the red tape wrapped around the drone's propellers!
No problem glad you enjoyed the shots! Definitely another perspective to enjoy 👍👍
Great vid. Lived in this area for nearly 52 years and it's a sight I'm used too. It will be weird not seeing it. Good to see the wind turbines though. Also prime location for houses but hopefully the wildlife will be left alone. Thanks for taking the time to film this.
Definitely wont be the same! Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the footage.
Nice drone "trip"🎬
Perfect blue.
Definitely a trip! 2 miles each way, and yes very nice colors!
Many thanks for your excellent video. Very nicely produced, and perfect timing. Had you been keeping it 'on the shelf' for this rather sad day, when The Chimney descended and became a memory?
Thank you! And yes I had filmed this back in June or July. Thought it would be fitting to release today so we could take a look back and remember this piece of history.
I live in calshot,Seen this from my back garden the whole ground shook from our feet, I was in my back garden a few months ago and i saw a drone flying above me maybe it was yours, Great video steve as always
Bet that was an experience then! And could of been mine, it was back in July time I filmed this. And thanks 🙏
Excellent tribute video. Such a shame to see it go...
Thanks 👍
Great drone footage of the Fawley landmark on a lovely summers day -
in complete contrast to a wet and miserable Sunday morning when it was finally demolished.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Horrible this morning it was! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for posting this, it's great that a lot of people on UA-cam have taken the time to post these videos, give those of us who live/lived in the area something to remember it by. I couldn't help but think while watching this, while I was growing up in the area, if something the size of a drone had been buzzing around the fields for that long one of the farmers would have taken a shot at it :)
Thanks for watching, hopefully you enjoyed the aerial shots! I think farmers would still try and shoot them down today to be honest! Would be tricky though.
Great footage! Was expecting a post-credit scene of the demolition ;)
Nice drone footage 👍
Thanks 🙏
Beautiful thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed 👍
Fantastic footage. I always say to people places like this, the video footage will mature as time goes by. When something new is built and the next generation want to see what used to be there. Great job.
Thanks mate 👍 And yeah very true!
Good video well done to all at brown and mason 👍
This did well
Definitely did
On the Isle of wight it was always known as the ciggy coz it looked like a cigarette, and you could pretty much see it from everywhere here
Definitely does look like a cigarette 🚬
Sorry if this is a silly question, are those wind turbine blades stacked around the tower? Great video, thanks for making it.
Yes they are wind turbine blades. And thanks for watching!
They are built there next to the water, and then can be moved by boat (not road) because of their size 👍
I live a few miles away in dibden..forgot all about it until I thought I heard what sounded like thunder....
It won't be missed..
Just been in cowes and watched
Nice music, what was it?
Im not sure, just a tune I had from my video editor.
Hi, very nice, which drone did you use here?
Thanks! DJI Mavic Series
@@ExploringWithin Same as I have (Mavic Air). Unfortunately I don’t yet have the BVLS license yet so can’t go this far.
Do you go out with secret vault? And what drone is this?
I explore with him sometimes yes. It’s a mavic air
@@ExploringWithin it's got some range...
@@michaelsnow7252 Yeah few miles
@@ExploringWithin look like Hamble point you were... Dident realise it was that far across. Gonna be weird there now without chimney.....
@@michaelsnow7252 Different skyline to get used to yeah
