How are you doing mr Chris . Iam Arabic lady subscriber to several British and American UA-cam channels. Thank you for your wonderful cultural literary channel. I gathered main theme of novel and author biography briefly here it’s Shakespeare memory is Borges last story about man who is given memory of William Shakespeare, enabling him to poet , playwright. Most secret thoughts , but also overloading him to point of slowly forgetting his own life . What in the posting-every-other-day is going on here? Has thou been possessed? Thy body doing UA-cam's bidding while thy mind is trapped!? If this continues, I may have to send help to verify you are okay (after I consume the content of course).
Thanks, as always, for your kindness, Brendan! Borges really is such a treasure. Really, there’s no preparation needed. Just start reading his short fiction and you’ll see that he’s such an affable and addictive guide into and throughout his world!
Borges is a Hero whose work will never get old, so thanks for your service. That said, you missed the chance of creating a diptych with your previous video on Las Batallas En El Desierto and appear for a couple of seconds dressed as a skull-holding gaucho. Better luck next time 🤞
Thank you so much for this piece (almost teatrical), Chris. As a absolute lover of Borges, the more his art is appreciated, the better I feel. 😂And you really highlighted his uniqueness: the enormous amount of culture and creative thinking in a extremely succinct literary form.
I wonder if, in the same way the bird story is a metaphor for the short story, the short story is a metaphor for something else. Like if reading many books of canon from all these great minds is similar to owning a memory of a great mind and then giving it away, only to remember them in times of reveries, daydreaming. Sometimes I have a thought and I'm unsure if this is my idea or something I read in (for example ) Umberto Eco 10 years ago.
I'm disappointed Chris. Where is the 14 hour video that encompasses everything Borges has ever written???
I'm easing into it. :)
But I'll see what I can do with my _Against the Day_ video next week...
@@LeafbyLeaf Wait, what? Wow! ✌🥰😍🥰👍😍🥰😍✌
😎
@@LeafbyLeaf Particularly enjoyed this Borges video, but gotta exclaim a "holy cow" here to vent my excitement for the Against the Day vid.
😁😁😁
I love Borges! What a master of his craft, especially considering he managed to build trilogy-worthy worlds and plots in just 10 page short stories.
Yes, exactly!
The Borges Fiction collection is the best collection of fiction writing by a single author EVER.
You know-as far as collections of short fiction go, I’m rather inclined to fully agree with you!

☕️🥐
I recommend you read Witold Gombrowicz's book "Pornografia"
It's on my list! So far, I've only read his diaries.

That was wonderful! I hope you do more videos like this. I am shamefully ignorant of Borges. I may make him my literary project for 2024.
