Here’s a thing you should consider doing with the city, You might already be working on this, but consider giving the city a texture overhaul to the same city we saw in the original killer bean movie. The one where the windows were green when it was night time and make the car models similar to the normal cars found in the movie as well. Again you might already be doing this but I would absolutely love this video game to stick close to the style of what the movie looked like. Thank you :)

This is looking epic! Hope more can be done with the movement (combat rolls, wall jumps, sliding, etc) because that was a big part of the movie for me, but regardless this is definitely on my wishlist. (Not talking about my steam wishlist, but it’s there too.)
The police should be a “faction” as well. There could be stories/missions where you are working for the police, they are indifferent to you, or are hostile. They could also become temporarily hostile if they see you committing a crime.
Thanks WideMouth, I'm actually planning to not have any police, since the game takes place on Shadow Bean Island, a lawless island in the middle of no where. The cities will have mob boss security that patrol the streets. So they will be very similar to police, but they don't follow laws themselves.
Just about to say sonic frontier is just a bunch of random platforms and grind rails stapled to the floor with a few lame Minigames but this one looks promising
Here's how to boost up gameplay: Active enviroment - just imagine that there's loads of objects thats destructible or usable to make fighting even cooler (example - something big and heavy on the rope, as you cut the rope it falls on the enemy) Aswell as being able to just throw stuff at people (for example kick would make crates or smthng fly so fast that you can kill with it, or just being able to pick a brick and throw at someone making them stumble) Stumbling - would make the guns feel much better when bullets hit someone and they actually react to the hit Add dancing to the game Like the ones from the dancing thugs scene It would be hella funny to just kill everyone and start to breakdance in the middle of the room Or maybe badass finishers that you can activate if enemy's hp drops low

Tip: Focus on the main part of the game I know it sounds basic, but been concerned on the scale of content you are planning, I would just recommend you to be sure that first things to be done are the main features (campain, main mechanics, all the things you need to make the game playable from the beginning to the end). He's right I've taken a class in Game Design and Developing, it's easy to wrap up with the smaller details of your game's look, but if the mechanics don't work or are not as pleasing to play with then you got a whole other problem in hard. (50%, Jesus men.)
Tbh i would probably first work with the players moveset, so it's easier to plan out environments and maps that allow the moveset to be used in full effect, and of course some that restrict it for challenge.
You said that for some building interior missions, there would be objectives to “retrieve x from building y”. I think it’d be fun to have a little bit of stealth options for stuff like this so I could sneak around get in a cool spot and then go ham. Just a suggestion!

I think some law should be implemented. Not that much since the city is basically owned by crime lords, but occasionally if you kill enough beans or something you'll get a few cops on your maybe. Here something’s I suggest to add: A r.c or drone to mark enemy’s from a distance Safe houses that you can fast travel to and also lose bad beans or mercenaries And also add gadgets like shock grenades and suppressors also the r.c and drone a mention . Yes, there could be random mini-bosses that just appear in the middle of a different quest. The player will get a warning ahead of time, like a warning that a Shadow Bean has been activated or Mercenaries are planning an attack.
I feel like this is gonna be like Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl but less horror-like and more fast paced. (Stalker: Shadow Of Chernobyl story is litteraly guy in Chernobyl zone is in a death truck but he is alive and he goes to complete stuff like missions)
This looks great! I've loved every update so far and seeing this was honestly surprising, there's so much in this world, simply seeing cars drive around had me mesmerized, might've been because there wasn't anything like that in the movie. I'm very excited to eventually play this game in the future!
Happy this game is getting a lot of progress but one thing u have to ask is what will the main campaign be like. If I remember correctly this game is supposed to be continuation of the Killer Bean: Forever and the series. So will there be a main story and will that have a definite ending and definite missions and cutscenes. The only difference being the levels themselves as I assume they’ll be procedurally generated. Then the sidequests will be the completely generated randomly or will it be a completely different mode that can be unlocked after beating the campaign or just a separate thing from the beginning? Anyways great work Jeff!
Thanks R3alHumanChild, the main campaign will be split into 9 chapters. All campaign play-throughs will all move towards the final confrontation with the Shadow Agency. But each of the 9 chapters will be different, like different missions, different characters, and which factions will be more friendly to you. There will also be different surprises along the way. For example, some characters who you thought were friendly could end up betraying you midway through.
I'm really looking forward to this game and i just wanted to share some neat ideas so here they are. : -Parkour : jumping from building to building reminded me of parkour like grabbing ledges to get up, get from side to side with them too, or even doing cool tricks mid-air! Sliding and walljumps seem like great ideas (idea from FrostCookie8) especially when you just wanna go fast and feel wind y'know? Maybe add momentum and climbing but that's probably asking for too much. -The city feels..small : While i'm glad we got an entire island with variety and areas to explore, (maybe secrets and easter eggs!) the city looks small compared to killer bean. Like he looks like he's 10 feet tall and the rooftops look very small with almost no room. So yeah just wanted to say that the city looks weird. Though i admire the effort of putting all of it together! -Give some depth to the combat : I feel like the enemy's ai is just blind and doesn't even know how to fight back. Ofc this is a work-in-progress game but i just wanted to say to maybe make the combat feel a lil challenging since these guys are trained thugs and stuff? Maybe make them dodge from time to time. (obviously give the player that mechanic too to keep things fair.) Oh yeah and maybe add a skill tree to do cool moves while fighting? So yeah, all in all, this game is extremely unique and every way and i can't wait to see the final result!
Thanks Ly! Wall running and sliding will definitely be added. Ledge grabbing and climbing is a little more difficult. I can add them later, we'll see. I think I know what you mean about the city feeling small. Don't worry, the buildings can be any size I want. I can make larger/wider buildings. The general city size can be bigger, but I need to optimize much more for it to run smoothly. The enemy AI right now is the default AI. Later, I will add much more aggressive AI that strafe, etc. Skill trees are coming!
This looks super hype! Will you eventually add more animations like idles and fluid transitions (like standstill to running and such)? Always been a huge fan of the smooth animations from the movies so I'd love to that implicated here as well if possible. Awesome progress so far though!

AI can be randomized to be your ally or enemy, random chaos while still having quests??? A grappling hook should be coming when Jet Bean is added to the game. Parachutes should be easy to add. I'm doing vehicles right now, and almost done. Drones maybe. Safe house, I think so.

Something that many would like is the function of being able to take weapons from enemies, something that Killer Bean would not do but that would suit the game very well, because it would be great and also it would not change much the essence of the movie or the game. thanks for your attention if you read this haha.
I think something that would make this game really great is taking a page out of the game ULTRAKILL. The combos being a core mechanic of the game, it would be cool to see Killer Bean do killer combos like that.

I have a suggestion for Killer Bean Movements: You could add a system where you can make Killer Bean Walk instead of Running and by Running you can make him run slower, but faster by Sprinting with a stamina that can run out
Wow! It's so cool! Really good job👏👏 And I had some suggestions for killer bean's animations: when he jumps in air, it's kinda better that he doesn't back flip during the first jump and do it in the second jump, also killer bean is jumping a bit too high, doesn't he? So it would be better in my opinion to decrease the jumping hight. Also about that slow-motion jump ( well I can't remember the name but you know what I mean 😅), when he does that move sometimes, he just hit the walls and objects, so I think it would be better to add a ragdoll animation to this, also killer bean has to hurt when he hit the wall, because I think it would be more realistic. Other thing are the enemies, they are kinda.... too slow, I mean when they see killer bean, they have to run and announce other bad beans for cover, also they can hide behind objects and shoot from there ( so the accuracy and aiming decreases) also killer bean can do this move too, he can hide behind objects and shoot from there without getting shot. Also don't you think the city is kinda very quiet and there is no npc? So you can add npcs and police officers just like gta games and get "wanted levels " Also you can add more details to the game, like the whole drive seat and specially the main driver in the car and driving animations for it, also the most important part is bullet print on the walls and objects, also when we shoot at objects, there should be a sound for every object And thank you very much for reading the comments 🙏
Good points! Yes, I will add ragdoll to the slow motion dive. For the enemies, I will create a new AI for more aggressive enemies. NPC's will be all Bad Beans walking around. I'll add that later.
Jeff, this looks like an amazing game. Hearing about all this though makes me think of the Fallout 76 launch where Bethesda spread themselves too thin. Remember that we still appreciate a polished game with not as much in it.
This sounds like a great idea! But do not try to overshoot what youre trying to achieve - a game that tried to be a rogue-like narrative game was 'we happy few', the procedurally generated surroundings did not end up doing this game any favours, it can cause lack of variety and repetitiveness - which sounds like irony as procedurally generated terrain must offer new and fresh surroundings right? It just depends on execution which i dont know how good itll be for a small team so i hope you read this and consider if the rogue-like style will do it any favours! What you already have is fine - as long as you fine tune surroundings and make sure there is much more quality than quantity - make sure the city is not too big which will in turn make the exploration bland and boring, make it sizeable with lots of details and interesting things, im sure that this city that youve already created would be fine as long as you just fine tune it. Everything else sounds good, i just dont want this to be one of those great seeming projects that ends up being bad due to bad decisions! unless this is not what you meant, if you meant just the missions and characters will change im interested to see how this will be implemented!
Thanks oli p! I haven't played 'We Happy Few' yet. I'll have to check that out. Environments probably will not be procedurally generated. That way I can optimize them much easier. The Story and missions will be procedurally generated. So even though you might talk to the same character, they might be friend or foe, and they will probably want different things from you on each play through.
Alot of improvements already in such short time! You are genius! Out of jokes. My major concerns for the game are the walking, jumping and the death animations. They don't feel fluid yet (which you might be doing already idk) Killer bean just slides 4 frames and starts walking to the direction. Double jumping i don't have problem with but the jumps just feel a bit scuffed. The death animation doesn't give the player time to comprehend that they just died in middle of combat and instantly respawns them so idk, maybe have a death screen.
I am really excited for this, but i have some things that couls make this game better More weapons Able to pick up weapons from enemies Map More ragdol (For example when you jumped in slowmo and hit the wall, killer gean should hit his head and fall on the ground More mele combat options and moves Different activities to do Etc

I think you should add something, lemme ask. -Steal weapons if killed bad beans -Add Multiplayer co-op -try adding bullet going through woods, expect for metal or hard stuff. -Graphic settings -HP on the screen, Including money? -Don’t forget to add warning signs like people pirating your game (Pirated games are like free versions, If your game cost money just add a pirate screen, illegal to copy someone costed game with making a free version of it. -and lastly, Don’t forget tanks!
I think I might make Killer Bean's gold dragon guns have infinite ammo, but there will be reload time. All the normal/non-special weapons will have limited ammo.

Yes, stealth mechanics will probably be added when I add Vagan as a playable character, since he is the stealth character.

There should be a mechanic where you can hold a pistol out of one window to shoot Bad/Shadow Beans from the car.

If I remember correctly this game is supposed to be continuation of the Killer Bean: Forever and the series. So will there be a main story and will that have a definite ending and definite missions and cutscenes. The only difference being the levels themselves as I assume they’ll be procedurally generated. Then the sidequests will be the completely generated randomly or will it be a completely different mode that can be unlocked after beating the campaign or just a separate thing from the beginning? Anyways great work Jeff!
Thanks R3alHumanChild, the main campaign will be split into 9 chapters. All campaign play-throughs will all move towards the final confrontation with the Shadow Agency. But each of the 9 chapters will be different, like different missions, different characters, and which factions will be more friendly to you. There will also be different surprises along the way. For example, some characters who you thought were friendly could end up betraying you midway through.
I want him to add the ability to throw back grenades just like in the movie.

I'm really looking forward to this game and i just wanted to share some neat ideas so here they are. :
-Parkour : jumping from building to building reminded me of parkour like grabbing ledges to get up, get from side to side with them too, or even doing cool tricks mid-air! Sliding and walljumps seem like great ideas (idea from FrostCookie8) especially when you just wanna go fast and feel wind y'know? Maybe add momentum and climbing but that's probably asking for too much.
-The city feels..small : While i'm glad we got an entire island with variety and areas to explore, (maybe secrets and easter eggs!) the city looks small compared to killer bean. Like he looks like he's 10 feet tall and the rooftops look very small with almost no room. So yeah just wanted to say that the city looks weird. Though i admire the effort of putting all of it together!
-Give some depth to the combat : I feel like the enemy's ai is just blind and doesn't even know how to fight back. Ofc this is a work-in-progress game but i just wanted to say to maybe make the combat feel a lil challenging since these guys are trained thugs and stuff? Maybe make them dodge from time to time. (obviously give the player that mechanic too to keep things fair.)
Oh yeah and maybe add a skill tree to do cool moves while fighting?
So yeah, all in all, this game is extremely unique and every way and i can't wait to see the final result!
Thanks Ly! Wall running and sliding will definitely be added. Ledge grabbing and climbing is a little more difficult. I can add them later, we'll see.
I think I know what you mean about the city feeling small. Don't worry, the buildings can be any size I want. I can make larger/wider buildings. The general city size can be bigger, but I need to optimize much more for it to run smoothly.
The enemy AI right now is the default AI. Later, I will add much more aggressive AI that strafe, etc.

This looks super hype! Will you eventually add more animations like idles and fluid transitions (like standstill to running and such)? Always been a huge fan of the smooth animations from the movies so I'd love to that implicated here as well if possible. Awesome progress so far though!
Thanks! I can try smoother transitions, but I don't want to take away from the player's fast twitch reactions for a more arcade-like feel. Let's see what I can do!

You should reference the old Killer Bean prototype designs in some way. Maybe they're like an in-universe movie.
He can put regular citizens walking on the streets and even police and ambulances to full the city and make it more lively.

A grappling hook should be coming when Jet Bean is added to the game. Parachutes should be easy to add. I'm doing vehicles right now, and almost done. Drones maybe. Safe house, I think so.

I think something that would make this game really great is taking a page out of the game ULTRAKILL. The combos being a core mechanic of the game, it would be cool to see Killer Bean do killer combos like that.

I have a suggestion for Killer Bean Movements:
You could add a system where you can make Killer Bean Walk instead of Running and by Running you can make him run slower, but faster by Sprinting with a stamina that can run out

And I had some suggestions for killer bean's animations: when he jumps in air, it's kinda better that he doesn't back flip during the first jump and do it in the second jump, also killer bean is jumping a bit too high, doesn't he? So it would be better in my opinion to decrease the jumping hight.
Also about that slow-motion jump ( well I can't remember the name but you know what I mean 😅), when he does that move sometimes, he just hit the walls and objects, so I think it would be better to add a ragdoll animation to this, also killer bean has to hurt when he hit the wall, because I think it would be more realistic.
Other thing are the enemies, they are kinda.... too slow, I mean when they see killer bean, they have to run and announce other bad beans for cover, also they can hide behind objects and shoot from there ( so the accuracy and aiming decreases) also killer bean can do this move too, he can hide behind objects and shoot from there without getting shot.
Also don't you think the city is kinda very quiet and there is no npc? So you can add npcs and police officers just like gta games and get "wanted levels "
Also you can add more details to the game, like the whole drive seat and specially the main driver in the car and driving animations for it, also the most important part is bullet print on the walls and objects, also when we shoot at objects, there should be a sound for every object

Good points! Yes, I will add ragdoll to the slow motion dive. For the enemies, I will create a new AI for more aggressive enemies. NPC's will be all Bad Beans walking around. I'll add that later.

Jeff, this looks like an amazing game. Hearing about all this though makes me think of the Fallout 76 launch where Bethesda spread themselves too thin. Remember that we still appreciate a polished game with not as much in it.

This sounds like a great idea! But do not try to overshoot what youre trying to achieve - a game that tried to be a rogue-like narrative game was 'we happy few', the procedurally generated surroundings did not end up doing this game any favours, it can cause lack of variety and repetitiveness - which sounds like irony as procedurally generated terrain must offer new and fresh surroundings right? It just depends on execution which i dont know how good itll be for a small team so i hope you read this and consider if the rogue-like style will do it any favours!
What you already have is fine - as long as you fine tune surroundings and make sure there is much more quality than quantity - make sure the city is not too big which will in turn make the exploration bland and boring, make it sizeable with lots of details and interesting things, im sure that this city that youve already created would be fine as long as you just fine tune it. Everything else sounds good, i just dont want this to be one of those great seeming projects that ends up being bad due to bad decisions!
unless this is not what you meant, if you meant just the missions and characters will change im interested to see how this will be implemented!
Thanks oli p! I haven't played 'We Happy Few' yet. I'll have to check that out. Environments probably will not be procedurally generated. That way I can optimize them much easier. The Story and missions will be procedurally generated. So even though you might talk to the same character, they might be friend or foe, and they will probably want different things from you on each play through.
Alot of improvements already in such short time! You are genius! Out of jokes. My major concerns for the game are the walking, jumping and the death animations. They don't feel fluid yet (which you might be doing already idk) Killer bean just slides 4 frames and starts walking to the direction. Double jumping i don't have problem with but the jumps just feel a bit scuffed. The death animation doesn't give the player time to comprehend that they just died in middle of combat and instantly respawns them so idk, maybe have a death screen.

Thanks Demert, many more weapons are coming soon! You'll be able to pick up enemy weapons, buy them from weapon stores, or receive rare weapons as quest rewards. I like your idea about ragdoll during slow motion. That will probably help make it feel better.

There will actually be no police in this game, except for the few that Cromwell brings with him. The game takes place on Shadow Bean Island, so it is a lawless place :)

I think I might make Killer Bean's gold dragon guns have infinite ammo, but there will be reload time. All the normal/non-special weapons will have limited ammo.
