I just don't get how brain-dead trogledytes can honestly listen to this song and think it should have won. It samples the most recognizable symphony of all recorded history, and does nothing with it. This song, along with Maroon 5's Memories, and Train's Play That Song, is the reason i can't stand pop music anymore. They sample timeless music that is engrained in culture and childhood, and do absolutely nothing with it.- Its lazy songwriting and lazy music. - This song is terrible.
No, I'm mad. I just became obsessed with this song about 30 min ago, without knowing it was written for ESC. And now you' re telling me the UK voted for another song to represent you guys? Do you even want to win? I LOVE this!
@@olly7046 Michael Rice can sing very very well, don't get me wrong, but I personally feel like it's a typical UK song that's bound to be overlooked again
Such a loss that he didn't win! Wholesome lyrics, catchy song and an overall enjoyable performer! This song has potential and would have stood out for the right reasons at Eurovision! Too bad our song this year is generic but it's okay "Bigger than us" will definitely blend in ;) Jordan was and will ALWAYS BE best boy!!!!
I don't think it works like that. I think that if you make yourself known in your country you may get noticed and invited to perform, but i do not think you can get a second shot.
I watched him singing this once just randomly out of curiosity (I'm not from the UK but I'm subscribed to the BBC channel on UA-cam) but then this just kept playing in my head on repeat. It's ridiculously catchy.

BBC, you have a winning song here. Just bloody try and get it to be the UK representative any way you can. Give the Bigger Than US singer tons of cold sorbet so he loses his voice and send this instead. Why is this a winning song? 1. Chorus is insanely, caramelised sugar sweet and catchy. If you look at the comments you will see it gets into heads of people ranging from Portugal to Russia - that's the quality that the winning song needs to have. It needs to cross the borders and needs people to respond to it regardless of the region they live in. Thus they vote for it. 2. The lyrics are superb and are something the Eurovision audience will connect with. It's uplifting in the way Heroes was, it's inspirational - unlike the song you've chosen. Eurovision audience does not want to hear something is bigger than them. They've had that their entire lives. Instead, they want an uplifting chorus they can dance to (remember Lena?), non-pretentious and friendly looking singer, and song about the odd-ones out, the weirdos, the nerds, the non-understood ones. Which is why this song has better chances of winning than even Madonna. Why do you think that Israeli woman won recently? And the guy from Portugal? They are individual, not generic like Bigger Than Us, and talk about things an average Eurovision viewer can connect with. 3. The staging is good and interesting. No one wants to see a guy in a suit trying to pretend to be cool by wearing trainers and whining about love being bigger than him. Sorry, but that's just how it is. 4. This is just a good song. The good song wins regardless of where it comes from. Why do you think Portugal won for the first time in over 50 years? Why do you think Serbia won and has not even qualified so many times? Where was that bloc voting then? Yes, there is a bit of a block voting but that's because people vote for what they are familiar with or what talks to them. And this is it. If they don't like the song, not all the block voting in the world will help it. So please, for the first time in the last 20 years you have a winning song. Have some courage and just give it a chance to win.
1. The chorus blatantly samples Pachelbels Canon, which is the sole reason of it's recognizably catchy-ness, but in verse, the songwriting compensates for nothing else. The song is lazy and unoriginal. Eurovison at its core is built for creating new and subversive melodies. This song had none. 2. The lyricism is poor to say the least and exists to pander to a widespread "minoroty". Everybody wants something to fight for and to cater their ambitions toward, and generalizing those ambitions by pandering and singing towards a non-existent crowd is dangerous lyricism and a harmful statement. Everyone wants to be the "freak": the unique of a majority, but pandering to that cause is not beneficial and subdues the listener into becoming nothing. - on the other hand, an uplifting anthem that inspires and challenges people to become better than themselves is both a crowd pleasing ideolgy, and a helpful message that benefits society. 3. I agree. But still, what was unique about Jordan's staging? 4. Just because it's a good song, doesn't mean that it will face the stage against Great songs. - Having people block vote, simply because they relatated to a song is a problem. We need music that challenges us. Music that makes us think and reflect moreover on the society and world we are building. Yes you can have good fun in a winning Eurovision song, but so many of previous winning songs of Eurovison show that a complex theme is the ideal winner. I agree that "Better than us" was not as good as critics claim, but the overall message and construction was simply superior than "Freaks".
@Selver M Bell I got into it from my boys in Moldova, and I have been a fan of it for some time. Although whether or not I watch Eurovison isn't a cipher to view my argument. I deeply appreciate the art of music as a whole. I just disagree that this song had any potential for winning
