+Octahedron Well when putting 4 indie game developers on a panel, you have to expect they plug their creations. I would. It is the perfect place for exposure.
I've recently started coding and I was wondering what kind of pc would (processing power, ram and so forth) I need? Obviously not much... But as I progress I don't want to be stuck with a pc that can't do much.
Michael Reynolds Dude, If you have recently started coding. You reallllllllllly don't need to be worrying about PC specs. I learnt to code on a laptop, I work as a software dev with a purpose built machine now but my personal work is right back on a laptop again! (I like the freedom of going to coffee shops etc) Your learning, even a low-end laptop is going to run the stuff you need right now. By the time your *good enough* to need a beefy machine, the tech market will have completely changed, don't waste money now ;)
where did you get that from? I know a single guy that's making an indie game, but is funded via a publisher and he has the same stress as any other indie!
Ethan Dodge hahahaha. Thanks. This is my kind of humor. As soon as I read this I looked at the screen and bam, hit with the 'Bino Fro". Definitely a cool guy and talented, but let's face it-that was funny
"Don't want to scare them off." 26:00 You mean be misleading and pretend it isn't hard? Just be honest, geez. We're old enough to make our own decisions.
just to add to my previous post.. MIKE mentions about his friends having good XBLA standing.. with great reviews etc.. and still making no money.. YEAH?? thats cus XB fuck every one of the devs OVER!!! even TEAM MEAT said the main sale revenue came from the PC version of MEAT BOY.. and they would NEVER!!! work with MS again.. so again.. not really speaking to the average devver here.. cus STEAM in comparison is supposed to be TOP NOTCH!!!
I have seen a few of these panels now, and they always (obviously) ask the question about financial stability.. every single panelist has come back with the fact that it is NOT profitable to become an indie game dev.. the problem I have with this answer is that when I look up the games of these panelists.. they are absolutely fucking TERRIBLE!!!! So yeah, if your going to make shitty games.... its not profitable.. try making something people actually want to play.. or even something that just looks good.. it might change your answer to that question next time.
sheepthehack What do you think of my game on Newgrounds? - Specifically the failed robbery one? (I'm assuming you are intelligent and know how to find it) Also what do you think of my youtube animations *out of curiosity*
When they were listing FREEDOMS of being a developer, some one should have told MIKE that he also has the freedom to stop letting his mother cut his fucking hair.. He has the hair of a 55 year old "MANWOMEN"
i guess my adblock extension dosent work on 1 hour ads
rofl

This was a great presentation! Learned allot. Its always nice to look into other developers mindsets to see how they manage everything.
Indie game developers = Game developers from India
Is nobody going to talk about the fact that they have 3 mics for 4 of them?
+MultiRishicool As a technical support person for events like this, that fact bothers me to no end. XD
Specially for Michael having a mic was a constant struggle
Full Sail is Awesome!
"jonathan blow was like a hundred thousand dollars in debt when he made Braid"
I didn't know Jon Blow went to Full Sail

Go get an Apple II, you can code with that ;)
how is 40 people indie
Indie = independent of a publisher
+The McTrentonomous no indies can and do use publishers
The McTrentonomous Ok thanks sorry for not using a dictionary
gwald
No, they don't. If you have a publisher that funds you, you're no longer indie.
where did you get that from?
I know a single guy that's making an indie game, but is funded via a publisher and he has the same stress as any other indie!
realy greate vid, realy helpfull! Keep it up!
Ricardo Aguilo sounds like Adam Sandler lol
right on!
straight off the bat I know I wouldn't want to be playing a game made by the fella on the far left

I love Unity
Unity3D is the autotune of gamedev
Unreal Engine Superior Race
"Unity3D is the autotune of gamedev"
Show me, what successful games have you made?
It's all about the creator, not the tool.
+Adam Kerbal Space Program and Rust was made with Unity.
I would only use the Unreal Engine because it supports c++. Only reason.
I wasn't responding to you, hence the quotes. I was responding to gwald.
Origins of Malu, enough said
oh Full Sail the Harvard of gaming and the the maker of debt as it was in the DEEP DEPRESSION :P remember!
Not even close to "the Harvard of gaming"
22:56 Dead on, brother.
