I've been a Georgian Bay sailor for many years and have gone through Hang Dog only once. It was enough to convince me that the better way north is offshore out on the leading range from the open bay to Pointe au Baril. You two did remarkably well in this potentially nerve wracking route. I had to give up sailing when at the age of 70 I had a head on wreck and wound up with a broken neck, but thanks to you two, I can journey these waters again albeit vicariously through yours. Cheers!
I was a Georgian Bay boater in the 80’s and Hangdog Reef is the most difficult you will encounter in the whole small craft route. Your video’s are giving me so much pleasure watching all the places I am familiar with. I admire your courage and sensibilities in travelling in fair weather and staying safe in foul weather. Georgian Bay can be a monster at times. Stay safe and thank you for the videos.
Those butter tarts looked so yummy! This cruise was another gorgeous one…Canada is so stunning! I loved watching your silliness…so much fun! Can’t wait for the next one! 💞
You guy’s are like a breath of fresh air in a World of Smog! I started watching videos during the “lockdowns” and fear mongering on msm and it’s totally changed how I get my news, entertainment, information, etc. Besides just enjoying the camaraderie between you I’ve learned a lot of things about other states & Countries that most people are going too fast to notice, like the different things that people eat & different customs they’ve kept for many, many years. It’s great at the same time as being calming & exciting!
The first published recipe describing the butter tart as we know it was published in 1900 in The Women's Auxiliary of the Royal Victoria Hospital Cookbook in Ontario.
Have loved watching your cruising progress. Thanks for sharing your adventure. After several references to butter tarts, I have to tell you there is no limit to what goes in them! Check out the winners of the annual Butter Tart Festival in Midland. Examples include, ”The traditional style for its pecan butter tart and the wild style for its unique raspberry white chocolate cheesecake butter tart.”
@@SchoandJo A long way to come for the best but that would be neat! You can also run the Butter Tart Trot (5k, 10k, 1/2) where the the water stations also serve….butter tarts!!! (Mainly for the more relaxed participants ‘cause who could run with one of those in your tummy 😂)
I remember cruising into Byng Inlet on my Dads 55' cruiser forty years ago and he went on the wrong side of the marker we were all on the flybridge on a beautiful day once the marker was beside the boat I could feel it rise and immediately looked behind us and could see the rock bottom so I looked at the chart and told my Dad and he just shrugged it off there was a angel on his shoulder that day for sure! Our draft was 4' so we probably cleared by a mere 4"s. 😅 Safe travels! Scho & Jo 👍
Well done again. The inside channel offers lots to avoid being bored. And if it’s not enough most of us have the same surprises from Navionics. I’m 3 weeks to spring launch in Georgian Bay and this series is perfect timing to get geared up for the summer season. Thanks for sharing your journey!! 🇨🇦
Jen, in the beginning of your trip you would have been a wreck and your stomach would have been hurting. Good job! Love me some Jolliet and coffee in the mornings. Jen, Ollie, Elliot 😊
We sure are enjoying your journey! Gorgeous scenery, even the rainy weather is cool. Thanks Jenn, Elliott & Ollie. PS. Jerry & I are high school sweethearts too. 1973 & 1974 from Prescott Arizona. We're now retired, together 50 years. Life's journey together is amazing. Enjoy every moment!
Butter Tarts are so popular that there are Festivals for the yummy treat. One near us in Paris ON attracts thousands of peeps. IMO, the key is the pastry.
I like the tarts ether way. Ohh it made me think of something that upstate NY had, it was called a half moon cookie. One side was black icing, the other side was white.. they are awesome. Maybe something for next time on the Erie Canal
I used to have your videos playing in the background in my office while I worked on other tasks... But your Canadian leg is so picturesque I don't want to miss the scenery... So I'm getting less work done because of it... So... um... Thanks??? lol
Bad Jen and Ollie. Buttertarts are snacks or desserts. NOT BREAKFAST. Can't leave children out of your sight. lol. It's such a shame you had that shitty weather. Too bad you didn't do canoe channel. It's narrow and marked narrow but did it with my 37' with 12' beam and is a real pretty spot. It's part of the small craft channel and is real protected and come out just south of Snug. May have been the channel you said backed out of. Hitting our islands is a big no no. We don't want our rocks damaged. lol But next time you may have more time and do some more exploring. You could do a whole summer up here and never see the same thing twice and still never see it all. Thanks again putting me in my favorite place on earth.
Haha I'm not sure we could put a dent in your islands, more like we'd have a dented Pivot 😂 Yes, we definitely need to do more exploring in the future!
That is some kind of channel. Bet there were a few instances, especially when you all almost ran into the island, that was white knuckle time! In one way it's too bad the weather was sopped in, but at least those conditions kept the prevailing winds down while making this passage. Definitely a gorgeous place.
Personally, I don't eat butter tarts, but I have heard of a lady in Massey On. which is near Espanola who makes the best butter tarts anywhere. I live in southern Ontario and have heard this from different people. Wish I could remember her name. I think it is Patricia, but will correct myself in a future video if I'm wrong. Her pastries must be incredible to have people from different areas tell us about her
There is another channel you might find interesting it's called Yorkshire and me. It's man wife and dog team they have the same exact boat as yours that required extensive rehab work including the engine they like you are doing the loop started in the Detroit area currently in north Florida you might be interested in reaching out to them about boat maintenance
As a Canadian I can confirm that raisins in a butter tart are indeed a sin, as are square butter tarts. You’re going to need to get more circular butter tarts without raisins in them so as to not offend Canadians everywhere.
Great videos. Just found your channel and really enjoyed the Georgian Bay episodes. As a Georgian Bay boater for 45+ years just one suggestion in the softest of terms. It’s just Georgian Bay. Not “The” Georgian Bay. Otherwise fantastic stuff
Y'all do realize there is a function in the video editing software that will put your captions up for more than a half a split second so we actually have time to read them and don't spend all of our Lives hitting rewind and pause just to read the captions that you don't put up there for more than one or two seconds... Which keeps us in pending on our entire lives hit rewind playlist rewind pause rewind pause every time you put something up on the screen and don't leave it up there but a third of a second. Just saying

Thank you so much Helen! Very kind of you!
Totally platonic compliment, with your eyes, doubt anyone was paying attention to the smudge. Respect and love...

Aww, thanks, Suzanne! ❤️
Butter tarts - I have seen them plain, with raisins, and also with pecans...all good 😋
tHANK YOU AGAIN GUYS.

Wow, that’s some history!
I agree with Jen, "It sounds more France-ie".
Awesome video..We are enjoying your journey..🇨🇦🇨🇦⚓⚓
even though this was like 6 months ago, does it make you smile when you edit/post these ? stay safe, Tim and Cat
Absolutely! It brings us a lot of joy

Wow, the more we learn about Butter Tarts the more we are intrigued! Perhaps we will have to check out a festival one day!

Yikes!!!!
Great choice of music at the end.

The Butter tart festival reminds me of a song by Queen.

Beautiful gorgeous bay
Rocks and trees
That's what we call it here on Ontario
Great video

Ooooh might have to check that out some time!
If I had a choice it would be with raisins!
Butter tarts.....a moment on the lips , a lifetime on the hips.
😂 so true!
So, the burning question. Did you manage to save the other 2 butter tarts till the next day? 😁
Haha, no comment!
Simply superb!
Butter tarts are best with pecans 😊
that does sound good!

Someone brought me one of those when I picked them up @ the airport! It wasn’t bad….
@@christip20 The ones from mom and pop bakeries in upstate NY are the best!

never seen butter tarts down here in NZ but they look yum, awesome videos you guys are posting, safe travels

Definitely some white-knuckle moments in this video! But hard for that to affect you too much when you're in such a beautiful place!
9:59 great! I gained 2 pounds just watching your butter tarts.
haha you're telling us!
I'm typing this may 22/23, just wondering if you're still cruising , if so , are you back in the US.
When you make pies the scrap dough ends up as butter tarts with raisins or pecans etc.
Ooh that makes sense!
I love your dog... is she a rescue dog (was she from a shelter) ?
Thanks, Randy! Yes, she was rescued from the Atlanta Humane Society 🐶
lucky dog... safe and happy trails to you"s, glad you liked our Canadian waters...@@SchoandJo

haha 😂, not surprised!!
As a Canadian I can confirm that raisins in a butter tart are indeed a sin, as are square butter tarts. You’re going to need to get more circular butter tarts without raisins in them so as to not offend Canadians everywhere.
As a Canadian I disagree. Raisins are the best part of a butter tart.
Homemade crust is best with a runny centre
Do your soaking wet clothes actually dry completely just hanging them in the cabin, or do you have a secret drying weapon on board somewhere?
No, normally they don't dry too well in the cabin, but once the weather clears we hang them up outside and that does the trick!

buttertart with coconut yummy
oooh that sounds really good too!
U must hear lots of loons?
Definitely, and we love it!
Butter tarts must be made with Rogers Golden syrup and raisins anything else is fake ;-)
100% no raisins
