Cooking Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes, and Asparagus

  • For today's meal, I decided it's time for some chicken fried steak. Around here, typically served with mashed potatoes, and green beans, but I happened to have some fresh asparagus from my garden, that needed to be eaten. Turns out it goes well with the chicken fried steak, and mashed potatoes. There are unlimited ways to season, and cook these items, and this is one of them!
Also, I decided to use the Holmes HAP-180 to filter out the frying fumes. Did a fine job, and the fry odor was kept to a minimum.
Thanks for stopping by to watch, please like, subscribe, and ring the bell!

Somebody used to help grandma in the kitchen LOL. Looks like some good southern home cooking. I make something similar called flip steak. It's made from thinly sliced steak that is breaded and fried but no gravy. We usually serve it with mashed potato, a tossed salad and cranberry sauce. I also like to slice fresh hot pepper from the garden on mine for some spice.

I certainly did that! Now that my grandmothers are long gone, real glad I did!
That flip steak sounds great, along with the sides!
Yes! We usually have a little plate with sliced peppers, from the garden. I usually have some fresh bell pepper sliced up in my salad.

That looked like it was made with a lot of love and definitely a plate of food that you can't go wrong with.
As Julia would say bon appétit!

Wow, Neal must have definitely had the day off when you uploaded this. You not only showed beating your meat, but it also white and crusty. Do you have a magic site for his schedule or something?
All kidding aside, I have never had chicken fried steak, definitely a southern thing. Now the Yankee pot roast that I make...that's a different story entirely! I should definitely try yours some time, looks delicious!
Actually, come to think of it, I have a recipe that I make that is kind of similar. It's simply called breaded beef, but uses bread crumbs instead, along with parmesan cheen to coat it, along with some herbs and spices. The meat is also marinated in red wine vinegar, preferably overnight. I haven't made that in a while, this might be a good opportunity to do so. Doesn't have any kind of gravy though.
I am SURE the Holmes HAP-180 took care of the frying odor wonderfully, total game changer! And that's why they don't make it anymore! My favorite thing to do, in these summer months, is to bring the electric skillet outside and cook it there instead, and can save on the Holmes unit entirely.
I just find it ironic how the Ninja has to tell you it's hot, while the electric skillet lets you find out for yourself.

Not sure how that _slipped_ by Neal! It was quite messy, but worked out well, in the end.
Like all the other food I've tried, that you make, I'm certain it most definitely sucks!
That breaded beef does sound interesting! Might have to give that one a try sometime.
Yep, it did great. I let it run for several hours, and no hint of fry, when I shut it off. Indeed, not a bad idea to save on the HAP-180, since the filtners are made of unobtainium.
Right, right, you can tell these two appliances were made for different generations!

      @@dynatrak Yes, Masculout works wonders!
I have been told that for sure, same with the breaded beef. I've made that I think only for the wif and I, and she told me it sucks too.
It's really a shame that the filtners are not available for that. I wonder if there's a way we can disassemble them and "refresh the ingredients". Pretty sure the trick is activated charcoal/carbon, that might simply be what does it.
I was going to say--same thing with a plain old stove, but those glass cooktop ones have a "hot" light as well.

@@jaykay18 I'm sure being GenX, there is a solution for those NLA filtners. I think, taking a Dremel, and cutting off one end would reveal the "ingredients." Then they could be refreshed, as you stated. Then hot glue, or silicone the end back on. Perhaps drill, and countersink screws for future serviceability.
Might have to put the breaded beef on the menu, for my next visit!

Oh, putting me on the spot, eh? Could send you the recipe first to see if it's something you might want to try.
